HELP!!! Vulcan crapped out!!

Hey guys,
My .25 Vulcan died on me and I need to get it reincarnated… I’ve been shooting my crickets lately playing around with night vision stuff with them. My Vulcan is my go-to gun for sparrows/starlings in the back yard/chicken pen… Was home this weekend messing around and a couple starlings were hanging out on the martin boxes so I get the trusty Vulcan out, cock it, take dead aim and …CLINK… the hammer falls but nothing happens. I look at the gauge and it is sitting on zero!!! So I’m thinkin’ OBVIOUSLY I have a leak somewhere… I hooked up my tank to it to refill and the air just blows right through… As a matter of fact, I got lucky in that the gun was on my tripod in my office and when I turned on the gas, it actually shot the pellet that was in the barrel out.. DUH!!! Scared the crap out of me, then I thought what a dumb ass I was… Anyway, It appears that something is stuck in the wide open position so that the tank will not fill.

What the heck do I do? I have the world’s captured supply of spare o-rings for it as I bought a bulk supply from a local house here in the Houston area. I don’t want to just start taking it apart until I try to find out what happened. The gun has been sitting on my table in my office pressurized continuously since I got it from Tony. Any ideas as to what you think may have caused this full tank dump and no re-fill?

Thx,
Charlie

When I asked Evgeny to send me an upgraded HST I did not get it for two weeks. I sent him a follow up and he said he sent it out next day, but he decided to send me another one. The second on took about 7 days to get here to the US. Both showed up within a few days apart and indeed he did post the fist one the very next day but must have got stuck in customs, or the mail. So be patient.

I asked Evgeny who else needs one and I forwarded the extra set to another member near me.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve read about this on here before and I have a pretty good degree of confidence that’s exactly what happened. I sent him a follow up email inquiry tonight.

Still no response from Evgeny… Sure hope he just shipped a valve stem and gauge, and I will get it in a few days… 😐 😐

the picture i get of evgeny is stuck behind his computer 24-7 or glued to his smartphone. either that or he has cloned himself so that he can get on in the workshop and build some vulcans. shame he hasn’t time to post on this forum. :sadn:

Different time zones…

I have not heard back from evgeny yet. I emailed him last night. I figured he’d respond sometime today, but he has not. Yesterday afternoon when I initially emailed him, he responded in less than 5 minutes… He said he would send me the upgraded gauge today. I asked him if he could also include a stem and asked him to let me know how much a new stem costs and how he wanted to be paid… Nuthin’ yet back.

At least you got to the bottom of it. Evgeny is a helpful guy.

Someone above mentioned the firing valve coming apart, mine did that but the gun still functioned ok. Was literally rattling about in the cylinder.

Unfortunately I don’t think so. Everything looked fine. The stem appeared normal until I put it under a magnifying glass and good lighting. There’s an irregular ring around the end of the stem where it contacts the seat. There does not appear to be any damage to the valve body seat.

I disassembled the valve, greased it and reassembled it and put back into the air tube. I connected it to my CF bottle and the gas blew out of the transfer port on the valve body.

Can you post some photos of the problem?

Well I watched a few Earnest videos and built up the courage to remove the air tube and take the valve assembly out of the end of it. Everything appeared to be properly assembled with regard to the valve. I disassembled the valve and removed the stem. Though it was not broken, upon careful examination, it appears that the black portion where it contacts the metal seat in the valve body to be damaged. I am in the pressure equipment industry so I have some experience in high pressure seals/seats. It looks like the stem seat is cut. I emailed Evgeny to see if he could ship me a new stem with the new gauge he told me he was shipping out tomorrow.

Any of you who have experience with getting shipments from him can you give me an idea of about how long the shipment may take?

Thanks again for the advice and input.

if you shake it gently. is anything rattling in air tube? can you hear anything there.

there was a guy whos return spring retainer worked itself loose, the disk with many holes.
so it was free and obvoiusly the valve return spring was not supported anymore and not shutting the valve back when the gun was empty. his dumped the pressure when he shot the gun low/off reg. before -while on the reg it is the air pressure what shuts and keeps the valve shut.]
the spring can be broken or the valvstem too. who knows.

plus sir you have a leak

When I told Evgeny I had tried the refill with bolt fixed open, he advised that I should return for warranty repair to Tony… Guess If I can’t get it working tonight, I’ll have to do that tomorrow… :sadn:

Check the valve, maybe it is stuck open or broken.

Evgeny has already responded!!! It hasn’t been 10 minutes since I emailed him. That guy is certainly on top of things!! He is also sending me a new style gauge! There might be a better gun out there somewhere, but there for sure is not better service ANYWHERE!

His advice was the same as I got here though as a first try. He advised me to “fix the bolt open” to allow the valve to close then refill… It looks like I’ll have to did a little deeper into it this evening when I get home…

I also emailed Evgeny too to get his advice… Sure hope it is something minor. This thing has been shooting lights out since I got it. I hate to tear it all apart if all I have to do to fix the leak is replace a breech o ring or something like that…
