What are you guys keeping by your bedside at night and why? I’m thinking that the most popular will be shotguns and/or pistols, but someone always seems to have an AR15 or AK47 for some reason!
I think that there is lot to be said for a simple and humble coach gun. Two barrels and easy to load and shoot with no worrying about is there one in the breech or not – just point and shoot.

45 automatic with 230 grain Eldurados. The only way to go in home defence, one shot in the chest”Thats a big trarget” and the man goes down, and don’t get back up. One of my Nephews was killed with one he died instantly.
I have all kinds of Guns, but when I am ready to defend myself it is the 45 auto, up close it is a no nonesence gun. Try one!
Velocity does some strange things!

I have a high stepping .17 that will go thru 1’4 steel plate, but it will completely blow up on a chicken egg. So much so that a sheet of note book paper 12″ behind it will only have a few tiny holes and what looks like silver paint sprayed on it! 😯 😆
I have thousands of rounds thru the Baer, with the only failure ever is the failure to lock back on an empty chamber when using Wilson 47d mags. This happened twice in probably 5 thousands of rounds.
Kimbers are famous for fucking up. Especially the mini’s’ and external extractor models.
Guess what frame and slide Wilson starts with. Bingo. Limber. (Ever wonder why they look so much alike. Even the cocking serrations are identical. Les Baers’ are all forged and machined by LES BAER!!!
Glocks, I have seen them stove pipe. Fail to feed. Double feed and several .40’s completely blow the chamber out of the gun.
There is a lot of hype about the plastic fantastic. And yes, for an ultra cheap gun that the non shooting nub’y can learn quickly, it is hard to beat.
Now if they would just put a real safety ( yes I know they have a lever in the trigger and wont go off unless the triger is hit. What gun will?)and make the guns a LOT more accurate, I would own more of them. I only have a few.
They are like the AK-47. cheap, reliable, and dead simple. Perfect for the masses.
Thats strange, when I had my TC chambered in .223 it would go through a 6″ round steel pipe with 1/4 wall thickness and still had energy to burn after going through both sides. I think I had a 14 inch barrel on that thing. I would have to see the drywall thing myself before I believed it too ).
Oh, that was with cheapo FMJ ammo, not green tip or anything.

Like I said, I didn’t either. I figured the little fast moving bullet would zip right through every single wall. I was wrong.
The demonstration had 3 “walls” set up. 2 layers of drywall about 6″ apart for each wall, and about 12 feet between the walls. The FMJ .223 rounds (again, FMJ, not varmint or anything) went through the first, and there were just little tiny pieces of metal barely embedded in the second. The little .223 has some strange traits, and that seems to be one of them.

.22 mag revolver in arms reach and a 12 guage with birdshot in the chamber and 00 buck for the next 6 rounds. Also a couple mosin nagants, but I wouldn’t use those unless I really needed to, for my neighbors sake. 🙂
And teffy, you wondered why someone always has an ar-15. I can tell you. 🙂 Handgun rounds will travel through 4-6 layers of drywall before running out of energy. That’s why people like them, a big rifle will go through layers of brick before it stops. Handguns don’t penetrate like that. However, the little .223 has some funny characteristics. Shoot it through 2 close layers of drywall (like you would find in a wall in a room) and it will just spit little fragments out of the back that don’t have enough energy to penetrate anything. A FMJ .223 at close range into drywall just comes apart and won’t do much of any damage past it. So, for whatever strange reason it happens, a .223 will penetrate through walls less than a 9mm or .45 making it a great home defense caliber. So an ar-15 with a 30 round clip makes for a fine weapon at home.
Granted I hate the ar-15 and don’t care for the .223 caliber, but all of the above is true, it was shown to me because I refused to believe it. But after I did I was pretty convinced that it is one of the best home defense weapons out there. I still won’t ever buy one though. 😀
A condor/tagdagger arrow conversion with a 200 gr arrow/broadhead combo, hopefully a well placed shot, a very sharp machette that will follow quickly in the wake of the arrow, and the Good Lord’s protection in the presence of thine enemies 😉

I can see your point, but I have to ask….does masturbation deter criminals from entering your house? I can see where they might leave in a hurry when you grabbed their craniks and started revving up the rpms….interesting thought though.

Remington 870 12ga, short barrel, 5 shots. Tracer and then 4 double ought buckshots. Works every time I’ve needed it which was only once.

My XD40sc concealed carry gun. I just put it in a cubby on the bed next to my head when I turn in.
Im also in the process of building up a Saiga 12 for full time home use. Up to 20 rounds of slugs or buckshot on tap as fast as you can pull the trigger. I can fix the drywall at the same time the wife is mopping up the blood and bits.
my sig 226 in .40 S&W is at my side every night and the thunder five .45/410 is placed where if it is needed its ready to go…but somthing tells me that 13 rounds of hydra-shock will deture most dumb shits… :4:
