How can a Bobcat or Hummingbird Compete with a Vulcan?
At the same price or higher it seems like the decision is obvious. Am I missing something? 😯 I don’t include anything not currently available because who knows what or when or even if. The Vulcan has had maybe an unparalleled minimum problem introduction too not to mention the best stock to date.

It’s that good? Heck, I need to sell my new Edgun! 😆

To answer to the original question ” how can a BC and HB compete with a Vulcan ” i can only answer : By growing a pair. A big and heavy pair too
yep, a great time to be in the hobby.
I probably have 7500 Barracudas in my pellet inventory (over 50,000 pellets) in various calibers so I am really familiar with them in all of my guns. I grew up shooting a RWS 52 in 177 (using mainly the old Benjamin pellets) and shot everything with it. 😯 Then I got a Blue Streak and used the .20s. I think I am still partial to the 177s even though I have a bullpup PCP in every caliber up to and including a .30. If we had hogs I would go higher but we just don’t see many yet.
My next gun will probably be another .177. I like that Lelya F&D has for sale and it is probably worth the price given the supply/demand but I also like the Vulcan reviews and am looking forward to the higher shot count and magazine on a 26′ gun to complement the Baby Cricket when it becomes available in 177 in May or so. That semi auto SP with the 36 grain slugs Modair is testing is interesting too. I also like the Shortie Mutant if they get it all worked out and restocked. So many choices. 😛
I don’t use my Edgun R3 .25 at all and may sell it since the .25 seems to be popular. When I need more power the .30 cal Eddy has 50% more anyway than the .25.
SeCoda I only aspire to have the confidence in a gun and especially in my ability to deliver clean kill shots like the ones you describe. That’s the fascinating thing about using the .177 pellet for pests and small game. I found the H&N Barracuda to be very good. The Barracuda match performed a slight bit better, but the plain Barracuda was dime-sized accurate at 50 yards from that old Harrier, and the spread was mostly horizontal. I have a long way to go to be a consistently good shooter, and I don’t put the time in ti get there sooner, but that was a really, really good day for me. As long as I can improve, with the right gun that’s more accurate than I can soon master, I’ll certainly be a happy shooter because gun love me long time!
It would be great if that were a .177

I even have shot a few raccoons in the head with the Baby Cricket and dropped them on the spot at about 19 fpe. I have shot several squirrels that sit on a rock at 79 yards with it as well. It’s down to about 8 fpe at that range but still downs them. I have shot over 50 squirrels with the my .22 P-Rod that only starts at 13 fpe at the muzzle. It’s deadly out to 50-60 yards. Shot placement is everything.
+1 for .177. The most deadly accurate .177 I’ve owned was a Daystate Harrier (single-shot). It really was a shooter. It grouped H&N Barracudas (10.65 grains) <.5″ @ 50 yards at just shy of 19 fpe. A .177 Vulcan might do me. But I need to wait on the Huben K1 as I don’t really want but a couple of airguns, and I just bought an Edgun a few weeks back.
The Huben page (so far only .22): http://www.hubenairguns.com/product.html
We have a huge bumper crop of squirrels this year. I will be busy. :5: My next door neighbor eats them. 😳
“if you aren´t one of those UK boys who like Haggis, Kidney Pie and other discusting food made of … discusting parts.”
That´s exactly what i mean. You guys always think bigger is better. BS ! A shot aimed right is enough – even with a small cal. Where does it end ? “I shot a Deer with a Howitzer, Man. Great” . There´s nothing to eat after that – if you aren´t one of those UK boys who like Haggis, Kidney Pie and other discusting food made of … discusting parts.
The funny part : You want to have your AG´s very light. So being light seems very important. Every other thread is about how light it feels or how nimble that piece is to shoulder. 😉
“Man – how much is the real World weight” ?? “That scope/rings combo makes it heavy”. “It looks heavy”. And so on. Real big cal´s weigh. No way around it.
I have a 30-06 and shot a black bear with it. He went off like a switch. It has a manageable kick. The 338 Lapua must kick a little? My buddies 50 BMG that I used to own is so heavy that the kick is like my 30-06. The concussion is very high.
They kick nothing. A 6.5×55 Swedish kicks ass. It´s , considering the BC, one of the best cal´s ever made. I´ve seen Moose hit with a .308 after a good shot. Some of them ran nearby half a mile before they gave up. Not good.
I rather take a .223 on the Moose and do a clear head shot. Unfortunately (or rightfully so) the .223 isn´t allowed for Moose hunting here.
US airgunners fallen in love with the .177, I never thought this could happen 😀
Wasn’t the AR-15 .308 cal the smallest must have weapon/cal in each household?
ATB 😀
They should fall in love. Rightly used (right shot placement) it´s a marvellous little Pill. I love Cricket Compact .177.
It´s more important to get the shot exactly where you want it rather than nearby and with some extra blast. Those rare occasions i shoot any Animals with an AG i always, always take a head shot. That hones ones skills and gives the “Quarry” a sporting chance. Those videos on YT showing Birds flying sideways after the shot (Mr. Snipergay being a good example) are in my Book badly shot ones. It´s a drop right there or fly away – affair – for me. .177 rules !
mainly .223 but many have gone to the .308. 😯 They kick.
