how long is too long???
just curious. about how long should you keep an AF rifle cocked before you need to worry about hammer spring fatigue( or any other problem) i know with springers it isn’t a good idea to cock one and leave it for hours, but does it matter with a PCP???

I do what Dave does to de-cock. It is a very handy option and allows the gun to have a round in the chamber without being dangerous…at least from my perspective. You can’t do that with a springer!
You can still de-cock the AF rifle, just hold the breech forwards, dis engage the safety, pull the trigger and let the breech come back to stop on the top hat

If you were out hunting, took a shot , missed, and got a sexecond shot ready, but the target suddenly got away, you’d be standing there with a loaded, cocked gun and nothing to shoot at…It could be a long while until another shot became available….it happens …..one of the features that attracted me to the BSA Ultra was the “de-cocking” mechaism that they come standard with…..but low power output kept me from buying…went with Air Arms S410 Carbine instead 😆 😆
I wouldn’t worry. But I can’t see why you would have it cocked more than a few minutes at most? I have to say while it may appear safe to leave a pellet in the rifle uncocked, if you had a equipment failure with the valve you could still shoot the pellet with out having the gun cocked. If you do store it with a pellet in the barrel store the tank separate. I always remove the tank and just store it with the ammo.
Who knows. I suspect it doesn’t make much difference. I like to decock my rifle when I am sure I am not going to shoot it anymore but I ALWAYS leave a pellet in the barrel. It just doesn’t feel right putting away a cocked and loaded rifle but I am OK with leaving a pellet in the barrel. Care must still be taken with the rifle though, the cocking handle could get caught on some loose clothing, pulled 90% towards cocked and then released-causing an unintentional discharge.
Anyway, thats my thoughts.
