HOW MANY 177 SHOOTERS DO WE HAVE ON TAG

I have looked all over and have found next to nothing on .177 air force data,

I have set my 22 condor up for 800 fps with 14 grain pellets for 20 foot pounds for field target power, and was thinking about getting a 24” barrel in 177 and doing the same thing , but i cant find any reading on the air force for 177 , and like zero groups and such.

i was playing on line with this http://www.airguns.net/trajectory.php

trajectory calculator and it looks like a 10 grain 177 at 925 fps for just under 20 foot pounds of energy ,is – 1.69 at 10 yards ,zero at 35 yards, highest point in trajectory is the zero at 35 yards down – 1.26 at 55 yards, so a (((1.69” trajectory curve)))

14 grain 22 at 800 fps for just under 20 foot pounds of energy is -1.18 at 10 ,zero at 18,highest point in trajectory is +.97 at 35 yards , then down – 1.12 at 55 yards.so a (((2.15 ” trajectory curve)))

not a whole lot of difference, this is figured for the zero to equal out the trajectory with the 3.2 ” bore to scope center on the condor

Just wonder if it would be of any benifit, the 177 would probably use less air, don’t know , just trying to figure out if it would be worth fooling around with.

but a .22 pellet travelling at 600 fps gives similar muzzle energy as a .177 travelling at 780 fps, pellet weight variable of course.

All im saying is you will use more air to propell the .177 by comparison so your shot count will be down. Over here we regard muzzle energy as a better indication of pellet performance than the speed of the projectile.

that doesn’t go alone with every springer in existence, you get more fps with 177 than identical spring gun in 22

the 1 odd factor is the valve return spring, it is so much heavier than the 22,valve duration is next to nil, that and my high fills likely explain the flat curve(incase anybody wanted to say anything…no i didnt consider it to be on the curve, i had just got the gun and was shooting gobs of shots from 3100 to 2700)

here is a 177 example, this string is starting near peak ,doesn’t say what the TH is, and PW is said to be low, but a 10 grain pellet should be in the low 900’s at around 1800 psi or so

if the top strings were 3000 fill , they were pretty much all heading to a higher fps, and i know the last string was heading to a higher fps

exception being the 7th string on top it looks like it might be perfectly centered in the string , so 3000 fill .075 TH, 6-8 PW 10 grian pellet with a talon valve

i thinik the talon valve being more restrictive took higher pressure to get a given velocity figure, maybe ?

washer- both. it raised the spring off of the retainer an was maybe .5mm smaller in dia.

given the higher pressures, i shot a long flat curve and they likely didnt peak until lower than 2.7k

Look at any information on shot count for pcp air rifles and you will see that for the same bottle and charge you will get LESS shots with a .177 than a .22. A good reference for this is the Daystate UK site which gives you expected shots per fill on each of their top quality rifles at UK (low) power and at export power.

This is because the .22 uses air more efficiently, and the .177 has comparatively more resistance to overcome to move the pellet. (Something like that)

Fitting a .22 barrel to a gun set up with a .177 barrel will give you higher muzzle energy, doing the opposite, ie a .177 barrel onto an ex .22 will give lower energy. This I know, I’ve done it.

well, im stuck with co2 at the moment, but when i was running that setup(hpa): 177 hi flow valve, stong return spring, between the spring and retainer was a nylon washer bored out to the id of the spring and od turned down to the id of the valve body. all porting and polishing as usual.
24 inch stock barrel, fill to 3100 psi, pw maxed out. th at .110. ending pressure 2700 psi, after 40 shots with cph/skenco ultra shock. pw backed off to 2 or 3, 3100 to 2700 yielded about the same velocities with cphp. never counted that many shots but id guess at least 60-70. oem spring and condor hammer/weight. did i forget anything?

m shot , that was his way of saying that any one that know’s the airforce would say pretty close to what you said. 🙂 😉

i think i can turn down, tune down the condor to work with the 177 using the oring and low fill pressures.

just trying to see if i want to mess around with it or not, i should have bought snyops 177 24″ barrel is what i should have done,

how are you shooting the 177 , set up etc.
