Q:

How to quiet "hammer slap" in the .25 Cricket…

Don’t ask me to fully explain why this works as well as it does, it just does, so I’m sharing it with you.

1/4″ closed cell foam, with one-sided adhesive, is the material used. Hammer slap, in my .25 Cricket, was reduced by at least 50%…(Personally, I believe it’s closer to 75%) I bought one sheet of foam, 12″X12″ and it cost about $3.00 shipped. Trimmed it with an X-acto knife. A razor blade would do nicely as well. It MUST be the dense closed cell foam.

Previously, I had drilled six 1.5mm holes in the shroud and had excellent shroud results, but the hammer slap was still quite loud. Now, the hammer slap is “muffled”, and quite difficult to hear. My .25 Cricket is now seriously quiet, except for the pellet impact. I can’t do anything about that.

Thicker 1/2″ foam might work better, but cosmetically it would stick out, although I’m certain there are those among us who could shave that corner down along the stock’s edge, and make it look fine.

So, there it is, for what it’s worth. My goal is to get as near to dead silent as possible. I’m still experimenting, but these two mods, foam and vented shroud, have been tested and found effective by me on the .25 Cricket. Your milage may vary, but you will never know unless you pick up some closed cell foam and try it yourself.

Nice, I sent pm to him :8:

Cricket, I have the same SOS as Iride does. It is quitter but like Ole Villee said, the pellet hitting it’s target is louder than the gun going off. I use mine to shoot birds over at the cattle barn. The report of the rifle doesn’t scare the birds it’s the pellet smacking that does.

Cricket I PM ed you
I always chose to shoot with it on as it does make the 22 Cricket a lot quitter,
Its yours for the price of shipping , But how do I ship it ?
Fed ex ? UPS? or the USPS?
That’s the only three ways of shipping I got.
I will repost pictures here
Installed on shroud

Tape on shroud to hold LDC in place, LDC on table,

Oh – nice to meet you Ben !

The only Bend you will ever get is “Ben Dover” :2:

Linkan, my man : That “around the bend” device is marvellous ! You need to search a patent for it.

Wow, thanks man, that pipe seems the right size and everything, I think I will give it a go.

Iride, if I still want your ldc then I will pm. And that bend for shooting around corners..

The mod is easy to do by yourself. Go to hardwarestore (K-rauta, Bauhaus) and buy a pipe for bathroom zink http://www.bauhaus.se/abs-ror-o32x1m-vit.html?nosto=nosto-searchpage-1

Cut/Saw a 1 cm strip at the same length as the shroud and then make your tube as long as you wish depending on much volume you want after the orginal shroud ends (the volume of silence). For cap i use a plastic nob from something and drilled a 6 mm hole. The tube is not really centric aligned on the shroud so you my want to trial and error until you got the exact fitting.

I also recommend this for shooting around corners: http://www.bauhaus.se/boj-instick-32mm-90-vit.html

Hello iride, I live in Sweden and yes, the .22 is the one. It slips over the shroud not the actual barrel right? How much difference does it make in sound?

Cricket?
Where you at?
I have the slip on LDC that Donny made to just slips on over the cricket barrel. I have the 22 and the 25, (its pvc pipe)
How hard would it be to ship to you,
You need the 22 right?
How hard would it be to ship from Texas?
Just thinking out loud.
Mike

We don’t have the same ” code of silence ” as our Brothers in US. Not needed. As said the pellet slap is the noise your neighbours hear. Have a well damped background and no one knows what you’re doing anyway. And it isn’t against the law to shoot an Airgun in your backyard. Not in the County i live in anyways…
I wonder how the pellet slap sounds on one of these :

The more important question is how to quiet down the mouth slap on some individuals in the Airgun community .

You’re probably right Ville, I haven’t even heard the gun yet since it’s still at yours  I will lay this idea on the shelf until I have the gun in my hands :4:

Fuck the neighbours ! Isn’t it legal in the land of the free to shoot an airrifle at your own backyard ?
Neighbours … One of mine had three Cats when they bought the house. Those fuckers ( the Cats ) were immediately on our backyard shitting in the bushes. I told the boheme neighbour ( musicians ) that those Cats are living on the edge since my Dogs will kill them on sight.
He replied that it’s ” cumbersome to keep the Cats on my yard “. I then told him that it’s , according the law , his responsibility to see that those fuckers stay under his control and if not it’s no use to come complaining afterwards. My Dog killed the first one after 3 weeks or so and the other a week or two after that 😉

The third one learned the lesson and only came to our yard early mornings when the Dogs were inside. Well – that bastard killed one of my wifes Doves and that let to the fact i bought a very powerful soft-airgun and the next time that little shit was basking on the hood of one of my Cars i gave him three fast shots on the ass. He left like he’s been hit by lightning and now he stays the hell away. Next time is Vulcan time though …

Check with Donny Du he’s making cool LDC’s

Unfortunately he nor NC will ship to my country, I am on my own on this one 😥

But he may be willing to give you some advice on how to proceed with your own build.
WTF do you need the LDC for anyways ? The gun is more than quiet enough.
The Yanks are trying to make noiseless airguns but you don’t need to jump on that bandwagon. The pellet hitting a target – or Quarry – at 275-280 mps sounds far more than the measly muzzle report from a .22 cal PCP. Leave good enough alone is my humble advice ..

Not everyone has the luxury of not having neighbors. :angrymob:
