How to remove brass nut inside reg?
Does anyone have any tips? Do I just need to go looking for a screwdriver that fits or what should I do? The only screwdriver I have that fits inside the regulator does not fit the screw and the only one that fits the screw does not fit inside the reg….

its fine to test right away!! and hope you screw in the adjuster to your reference point! if not its going to be a long day, or screw it in till the adjuster is blocking the inlet hole 1/4, inlet hole is on the side of the reg body

If I switch out both the o-rings inside the regulator, does it need any sort of break in or will it be fine right away? What can I expect from the chrony testing?

Bee I did not want to say your tool is bad or useless only I did it and works for me ordinary wider flat screw. Your tool is very useful indeed.
Octavius, just FYI, if you don’t notch out the blade, you run the risk of gouging up the nose of the regulator.. Also the notch allows you to get the proper crush on the Oring it needs to make the seal.
Thanks GKU…like you, always glad to help..the tool was 90% done with Dremel, and the rest finished of with a thin file…I have accumulated so many spare, old screwdrivers that finding a sacrificial one was no biggie..
I simply found suitable flat screw and did it

Well, here are some quick pics of my impromptu brass ring tool. I confess I didn’t take much time in making this tool, but it really works perfectly for the few times I’ve needed it.
Pardon the one-handed phone pics, but you get the idea. Also, DONT over-grease the regulator o-rings. I did, and under pressure, the grease is forced into and onto the Bellville washers and I got very irregular behavior out of the reg. Would take a whole magazine to climb & even out at its set pressure. Took it apart and found it full of new grease I over-applied. Removed the grease and gave it a light coating and all went back to normal. Just a warning. I apply the new tiny o-ring around the reg nose with a plastic drinking straw, as GKU alluded to, taking great care to not damage it.

Yes ….. also because you’re already in there you need to remove the piston anyway to change/replace the other O-ring.
Also, I like to keep track of the order of each Belleville Spring Washers and reinstalled them back in the same way and order.
My theory is that they been break-in in that order and if you mix them up the break-in process may need to start all over again.
I cleaned and marked each with a dot(s) with a black magic marker or keep each of them in a ice tray compartment.

GKU, do you mean I should remove the snapring and “empty” the regulator, discs and everything before touching the brass nut
I never and don’t recommend changing the O-ring while the piston is in place, I’d remove it first thing.
I’d remove it in fear of causing any damage to the piston seal surface/edge which I treat as well as the crown on my barrels.
