Q:

I Did It Again….!

I picked up a “used” Made in the USA tack-driver of an air rifle recently, well actually I get it on Monday. It was one of those “once in a lifetime” deals that was not to be passed over, exacerbated by the fact there was someone second in line waiting to swoop in and grab it if I didn’t.

It’s a early production model that has been tweaked by some of the lesser known but highly influential tuners/modders in the airgun community. Sorry I can’t say exactly who, i’ve been sworn to secrecy and would if I could. 😯

It wasn’t cheap but total awesomeness never is in this hobby.

Looks like i’ll be airing up the scba tank this weekend, getting the scope in the proper mount, the wheel coated with white tape in anticipation!

I’ve been ‘borrowing’ airguns since I sold the Talon and as sweet as it is to be using some of the best air rifles on the planet it will certainly be sweeter to have one that I can call my own!!!

:8:

I’ll post some photos Monday for y’all… Saw don’t spoil it buddy…!

It’s going to be great to be back in the “AG” saddle again!!! :4:

Field target match score update with loaner rifles:

Not too shabby for a newbie. 😀

PB, It’s 177 but the way the barrel is I could order a 22 barrel and literally slide it in place, adjust the valve and go shooting shortly thereafter. I ordered a new usft at the end of June thinking i’d probably wait 10-12 weeks (Tim had said 6-8 when I ordered), it’s now going on 21 weeks.

So when I was offered a early model (different barrel, air tube and has a couple of top secret mods) at a price I couldn’t pass up I jumped on it figuring it would be easy to sell if I ever needed to sell it.

I also wanted to get shooting again and have something to practice with that was of known quality and accuracy.

These rifles hold their value and the guy I purchased it from wants first right of refusal if I ever need to get rid of it…

Saw, I spoke to Tim on October 201st or so and turns out I wasn’t in the September batch of barrels so he said two more weeks. He was in a good mood and didn’t get upset at all with me calling and asking about the progress.

He has actually been very civil with me every time on the phone so no complaints there. I told him there was absolutely no rush, pressure or hurry. Per Tim my rifle is assembled and waiting for LW to ship the latest batch of barrels… It’s been a couple weeks over the two weeks but with something to shoot i’m not jones’n like I was before. 😆 As long as I get it by February i’m good, FT season starts in MArch 2012. 😀

A couple of weekends ago I set up my range finding and clicking for the last field target match of the year. I’m running a 8×32 Accushot scope until I can get enough bank together to get a Nikko Stirling 10×50. I’m not too confident in the Accushot scope and it’s ability to repeat clicks but so far so good even if it’s like running shitty tires on a Ferrari.

I had to stretch extra fun money pretty thin to get the second usft so the good scope is about a month or two out but at least I have my own rifle to practice with and shoot the last match. I’m still waiting on the usft I ordered at the end of June.

I’ll just say that the rifle benched is boring to shoot out to 50 yards. Ittsy bitsy groups at that distance is only fun for the first two or three groups. Then once it’s obvious it will do that all day long I had to move on to field targets at random distances from the seated position. 😉

The usft platform is crazy adaptable and wicked accurate, it just sips air (about 30 shots in 300psi) and sits dead steady on the knee with the thigh rest extended properly. I’ve been making some additional items for the resting parts and will be replacing the wood cheek rest with a section of carbon fiber tube when it arrives.

I still need to run it over the chrony but it’s not a necessity since it’s been tweaked by someone who knows their stuff and has done very well with this particular rifle. I’ll probably do the testing over the winter months to see when the velocity falls off and confirm the information I already have. I watched to see what it did during testing and could tell when the pressure was about 100 psi lower than the recommended range. During the match I need to be sure I keep an eye on the pressure gauge and remember to fill as needed.

Here she is, my American beauty, USFT #27:
