Been there done that! How is it that sometimes we forget things like “lefty loosey, righty tighty?” That’s why gun makers have to test things for well beyond what the intended limits are. The fact is that these guns are going to be operated by humans and even careful, prudent humans make mistakes. Those simple mistakes like a reversal in “muscle memory” should not and rarely do carry the death penalty! (Or penalty of maiming injury…)

I personally know a guy that “ate” a bolt that came out of the back of his custom + custom power modded rifle. No one who witnessed the event thought he did anything wrong but the maker claims he must have failed to close the bolt all the way. I think it doesn’t matter. Making a mistake in an often repeated task is going to happen and the gun, tank, valve, car, whatever should be able to accomodate expected human error without catastrophic failure.

Thanks for posting the “confession.” We used to hold meetings in the ready room where we “confessed” the mistakes we had made or “seen” in the cockpit and survived. The discussion was intended to get everyone more aware and less complacent. Helps keep the ego in check as well!

When I popped my Hi-flo valve stem out when trying to get a #3 drill shaft unstuck. Ah, it’s only a small thing with a lot of pressure.
Thank God this newer model of hi-flo is designed to come out.

I went to Sam’s Club and got a case of azz wipe!

Also actually the first time I filled my tank I had a big problem. I purchased all the parts and made my own filling system (hindsight never again) when I was buying the parts from the place I told them I needed a bleeder valve. They came out with this peice and I said that looks alot like a flow control valve or needle valve. He assured me it wasnt. I then explained to him exactly what I was doing for the tenth time just to make sure. He asssured me again this is what you need.

Needless to say when I assembled everything, IT WASNT A BLEEDER VALVE IT WAS A DAMN NEEDLE VALVE!!!!

So my dilema was how do I get this tank off this after I have my af tank hooked up and charged up to 2800 psi.

I ended up unscrewing the quick turn valve on the scba until some air could escape. And escape it did and made tremedous bang like a damn gun went off. Think I about need azzwipes on that one…..

So when I took the part back I was none to happy with the guy and I think he could tell by my whining and crying….

I am the only one that fills tanks and guns and have done it thousands of times due to my years of paintball.

Always be paranoid and never go on auto pilot while filling.

It must be respected and taken dead serious.
