Q:

I want a .25 cal gun but have questions…..

I have a stock Talon SS. What kind of numbers would I see with just a barrel change to .25 and with what length? I really don’t want the long 24″ barrel, I would like to keep the gun with shroud under 44″.

What if I just got a Condor and put a .25 barrel on it with everything else stock and kept the barrel short enough to keep the whole gun with shroud under 44″. What numbers might I see?

Thanks

I missed the part about the blodnob valve. I have NO experience there, but have heard only good things.

Not a 12″ but a 13″. This is the gun that got me interested in the airforce guns recently.

Would this little hammer shoot like a rainbow?

an 18 incher with a shroud is still a short setup, it turns out to be the same length as an unshrouded 24 inch setup, if you are getting a new barrel made for you I would go with an 18 incher and have the best of both worlds.

Yeah I don’t think I’d go less than 18″ with that. Think I’d rather have 18″ in .22 than a 12″ in .25, but that’s just my opinion.

I’m afraid that your going to have a trajectory like a rain bow in .25 with a 12 bbl. 🙁

I do have a blodnob valve on order. I still haven’t got the barrel yet. I’m now thinking about doing a 12″ barrel in .25. I just love short guns. What do some of you think? I’ve seen some 12″ guns on here rock!

It will not be a bench gun and will be used for fun plinking and game from starlings, squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, fox.

Get a 18″ – 21″ barrel. I would personally go with a 21″ barrel and have the best of both worlds. This would be a great time to get a blodnob valve!

Lee I may have missed it, but what do you intend to use this .25 for? IMHO, If long range smackin squirrels and jacks is the plan, better to put up with the long broom stick.

I’m thinkin you’ll be able to achieve 50 fpe with 18″ barrel and Condor bottle. A general rule of thumb is aprox 90 fps increase for 6″ added to a barrel. If my 24″.25 is doing almost 1000 fps with a 31gr 25, and I was to get a shorter 18″ barrel, that would be 6″ less, so if I subtract 90 fps from lets say, 980, I’m in the high 800’s, or at least mid 800’s. Looking at my calculater, a 31gr pellet doing 850fps would get you 49.07 ft lbs, right where you want to be. You’ll probably surpass that a bit.

A shroud for a 18″ barrel would stick out aprox 6″ from the front of the frame, then making the total lenght of your gun about the same as a unshrouded Condor with 24″ barrel. It would be a nice set up. Not to long, quiet, and still packing a good punch for sure.

I’ve decided to get a Condor tank and striker weight.

Now for the question on barrel length. How short can I keep it and still get 50 plus ft. lbs. in .25 cal with no other mods done to the gun?

I’m afraid if I go too long I may not like the gun with shroud installed.

Tim sold me the bottle with valve installed and parts for $170 something, about the same as if you ordered from AF.

I order the Condor valve for my SS and it came with a weight. You can order the valve assembled for seems like about 130, but I may be way off. I ordered the parts to transform my SS valve to condor specs, and it came with the weight at no additional charge. The total was 56.00. 😀

Mike

Thanks for the input guys. I will give Tim at Mac-1 a call soon. I will probably go with a 18″-22″ barrel in .25 cal. Unless someone can change my mind on that.

It could be that Tim ordered it this way, not sure if ordering a Condor bottle automaticly comes with these things, but the bottle and these other parts were all packaged in a cardboard tube from AF

I got the Condor bottle from Mac 1, came with striker weight, which you add on to stock SS hammer, sits right against it. Also came with butt plate, allen wrench. Need xtra weight to open valve right
