I would not expect too much on the trade in, I looked at trading my Swarovski RF1 in years ago with them, it was pennies on the dollar.
Gunbroker has several in the $350.00 range. Remember Leupold will honor their warratee, regardless if you buy it used.

SWFA would sell it to me for – 638! (the Leupold with price match) I discovered that they have a trade in program as well going to see how much my Hawke scope is worth to them.. then trade it in and pay the difference.

I doubt the folks at L&S had air gunners in mind when they designed their scopes, as you pointed out, correctly, they were for powder burners.
But a lot of game is shot at 25 yards and thus those scopes had to be clear at 25 yards, and sure if you get close enough, all you will see is hair or a blur.
The 6.5 X20 on the other hand is not a big game scope. Folks have tried to make it one, I used to help a guy out from Reedsport, Oregon who hunted up by my house, he routinely shot elk running in the hind quarters and then lost them, then he would be at my door looking for help in the form of a tracker.
Bottom line, he did not have enough field of view to do a running shot on a elk at the closer ranges, ie under 75 yards with a 6.5 by 20, so when he held at the front of them with that big scope set at 20 or thereabouts, he shot them in the hindquarters.
I see Leupolds that Preimier Reticles has bump up from 6.5 x20 to 25 by 50, and they do adjust down to airgun ranges, and still carry the factory warantee.
Yes I am Jaded, I am an Oregonian, and they are in Beaverton Oregon. I used to buy factory blems from them, they had no warantee, and it was at times impossible for me to see the blems, but they said they were there. I trusted L&S so much, I did not care about the warrantee, I never needed it.
Yes some high end scopes are as good, some better, but with Leupold you get consistantly good merchaandise and superb service when you want to up grade them. I have not looked thru the newer Leupolds I am only giving my opion on the vx3’s , and one of the big sniper scopes I had that came on a SR25 I used.

I have 2 leupolds. The big one (the one on the blaser) is 6.5-20 with an AO, and it is the one with the fancy reticle and knobs.
The scope on my cz is a 3.5-10. And yes, parallax is set at 150 yards on it. At 25 yards, with the magnification at 3.5x, it is perfectly clear. I have zero problem stacking bullets. However, consistent cheek weld is obviously extremely important. Now, if I try 10x magnification at 25 yards, the crosshairs do disappear, so it doesn’t work there. But 10x is only used for range stuff at 100 yards. For squirrels it never comes above 3.5x.
I don’t know exactly why, but on variable power, fixed AO, scopes the farther you zoom out, the more in focus close range becomes. It doesn’t fix the parallax, the crosshairs will still move if you move your head, but it will be in focus.
And the lower the magnification the better it must be. I had my 6.5-20 on the cz for a while. The AO only goes down to 50 yards on it, and it was perfectly clear there. But under 50 yards, even zoomed all the way out, the crosshairs would vanish. So it must help that the scope on the cz does go all the way out to 3.5x.
But long story short, it is set at 150 yards for parallax, but it is perfectly clear at 3.5x at 25 yards. 😀

Mr-lama: Leupold sets their centerfire rifles scopes parallax @ 150 yds and your 25yd 3.5x sight picture is clear? Or did you have the parallax changed with the reticle change?
I have a 2-6x20mm 1inch tube vintage 70s Tasco fixed parallaxed at 50 or 100 not sure which, was mounted in very low rings on 850, Super bright and clear in the sun and @ 2x you could see 1/2 the barrel in the sight picture. Above 2x the barrel moves out of the sight picture.
So are all 100/150 yard fixed scopes clear close in on the low mag setting?

People get by with cheap scopes all the time. Many of the deer hunters I know use centerpoints. It sits on their remington 770, a rifle I wouldn’t own if someone gave me. Does it work? Sure. They can usually hit the side of a deer at 50 yards. Just the same as a cheap scope works for squirrels on an airgun. I won’t deny, I had a leapers on my condor. I could usually hit a squirrel.
However, now that the condor is gone, I use my cz with a leupold varixIII for squirrels. No adjustable objective, but crank it down to 3.5x and it is a super clear picture of what I am aiming at. Adjusting for different ranges is no problem. I often go from sighted in at 25 yards to shooting green army men at 100 yards and back to 25 yards, and it is always where it should be. With the condor, I usually hit the squirrel, with the cz, I haven’t missed in a long time.
The only people who will tell you that there is no advantage to buying a good scope is someone who has not used one, or someone with no knowledge of what a scope is for.
Matt: Been looking @ Leupold 3-9×33 EFR UltraLight to swap between my Diana 34P and RWS 850 Airmagnum. Well, the spring broke, winter coming, bad for Co2, and those clickless friction, covered, low profile Leupold, hunterturrets, weird eh.
Oh and also need a set of those BKL 11mm to weaver adapers for the 850 and Leupold QRW rings for EFR? The madness never ends?
Trying now to get funding togather to purchase Pellets @ The Roanoke Va Airgun Expo, next week? The Vortex Viper 4-15×50 FFp should be out after Christmas, will buy after tax return, an so on!

My first Leupold was a 7.5 power M8 I got 40 years ago, It lasted for over 20 years and was ruined thru abuse, not use.
I have been out shooting birds today to try and save our grape crop, since noon I have killed 41 with the longest shot 96 yards on a Starling 3 mildot hold hover and one mil for the wind. I was down to 2000PSI from a 2900PSI fill, over that the first few shots are squirrely. I was standing with a rest on a grape pole.
I am usually shooting up into the treetops at birds sitting 50 to 90 feet in the air, I have a Google map imprinted in my mind of where that 18 grain Exact will land when it comes down in relation to residential property around me.
I am useing a Baraska Airgun scope 3×12 and I have it on 12 power. With everything going right, with a rest, which is usualy a grape pole, 6 feet high and 3 inches in diameter, I will get a hit 90% of the time if the wind does not blow. Because I am shooting into space, instead of background vegetation, I can see the pellet maybe 40 % of the time.
And that is where good quality glass has it over run of the mill Chinese glass.
If I can see that pellets trajectory , the second shot will be a kill, if not I am guessing. I have wind socks placed on high poles all around the vineyard, but they are not 90 feet high, so I am dealing with a bird on a moving branch with an unknown wind.
I can guess at the incline value, I know the yardage because I always have the Swarovski rangefinder, but the wind becomes the varible. With a VX 3 I am certain I can see that pellet on almost all shots. Remember I used the VX3 for well as long as they were out until a year and a half ago. A lot of years on almost a daily basis, so I know the clarity.
Now, if I were shooting squirrels at the bird feeder in upstate New York, and the gun never left the yard, my Baraska or a Leapers or a entry level Hawk would do just fine.
Now lets look at one other factor here, I am in Oregon, people fall off their bicycles and drown here, because it rains so damn much. I do not have the luxery of looking out the window and saying”oh shit it’s raining I will go to the range tomorrow. Things are wet most of the time. I am outside with that gun wether it is raining or not. Most scopes will fail to moisture, I protect mine pretty well, I am surprised it has held up, but it has.
I watched Ted’s video with the Hawk scope and his Edgun and the beer can massacure. Very impressive. But very big and heavy, too much so for my needs.
What I have learned from shooting birds all day long for 2 weeks now is this. I want a VX3 with a mildot, AO, a shoebox compressor and a regulator.
Anyway, this is getting too long, I am a dyed in the wool Leupold fan. I understand why folks do not have the quality glass, my guns are wearing shit, but I have an addiction to buying airguns and I can’t buy airguns and scopes too. 😆

Sam, you should consider the EFR scope I want.. plenty of zoom, target turrets, adjustable A0. that’s going to be more accurate than the side wheel.. have ready many reviews saying the glass is excellent. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these I sent SWFA the price match thing will have to wait till they get back at me to see what price they’ll offer.

Hold Over: Can I ask you which rifle and which scope you’re use N..? I have always wanted a Leupold ever since I looked through my Dads, many years ago. Just couldn’t get all the features I wanted @ reasonable price. So back then I bought a RedField, instead!

What model scope do you have? I love my “high end” swfa 10x scope glass is crystal clear.
But like others out there, I want to put a very nice quality scope on my rifle.
And I have looked down a leupold before, my cousin has one on his savage rifle. looks very nice..
Don’t get me wrong I like my hawke sidewinder 30 but leupolds quality is better..

I doubt if anyone on this forum has put in an order for the dollar amount that I have with Leupold and Stevens, I know them well.
$7,500.00, anybody out there match that one? Yeah and that was for one item. Care to guess what it was for, it was 17 years ago.
You can buy on Gunbroker, brand new 3×9 efr rimfire ao for under $375.00 by the truck load, why get fucked in the ass by SWFA.
I have nothing against SWFA, it is just your a TAG member and there are so many better deals out there.
I want one of these scopes or a 3×10 AO or a 4×12 AO in the near future, I have been shopping for a long time and know what they go for.
