Q:

if wanting more power from a talon ss would it make sense..

…from a 12″ barrel? My concerns are will there be too much of an air blast coming out the crown possibly causing the pellet to “wobble”?? and secondly if the air blast was not a concern…does the short 12″ barrel offer enough length/twist to get the pellets spinning fast enough to remain accurate at those higher speeds??? Thanks in advance for your replies!

joe, I’m pushing 21 grains right around 950 with a 12 incher and as long as I do my part it’ll pound nails on the job sight for me

HEy Shaggy you try the crosmandomes , they liike it up to 1000 in 22,condor

and 177 they shoot great out of my M.48 rws at high 900’s

Aww thanks but you ain’t get it from me =)

Wok and shagy say high 880’s to 900 , with talon valve, Wok says extra 50 fps with talon valve mod, so where at 950’s .

So i would think that the condor with 12” barrel can achieve 1000 fps. with 14 grain pellets.

Now what would it take to make it quite as a 24” condor with a 13” shroud,???

I bought a fram extender off of this forum , can’t remember I think Bennieboy (Correction needed) and my Talon ss is quieter than my condor with a shroud. Just hear a clink, thats all.
The 17 caliber barell in the same gun same settings shoots in the 1000 range. But thats too fast for a light pellet. You won’t get the proups like you do in the 800 and 900 FPS range. As a matter of fact the pellet makes a cracking sound between a crack and a whistle.

SO shaggy your saying that the high 800’s is max for the 12” SS with the high flow condor valve with 14 grain pellets.

A 22 caliber 12 inch barrel will do about 870 setting on 8.
Now the spring and hammer weight is less on the SS than on a Condor”as you already know”, but I can go inside the tank and turn out the brass nut but heck thats fast enought for me. I try to keep my pellets in the 800 to 900 speed range, I also set the Talon air pressure to about 2500 PSI. In other words I’m shooting with the Marauder in speed with the 22 caliber SS The Marauder is More flatter because the scope is setting lower so out from 20 yards to 45 yards there is a plus or minus 1/2″ The SS will shoot 1″ low at 25, and be on target at 45 yards. It’s a Squirrels head any way you look at it.
I’m satisfied.
I bought some 75 grain pellets for my 308 from Hunter supply and they shoot almost 1100 FPS, to fast I use the 115 grain in it. Have gotten as much as 890 FPS out of it like that.
Any way you guys are making these things I’m just shooting and making out a report 😀
Just wait till I get My Marauder Pistol with teh extended stock LMBO,,, as Maw said Ive lost it 😀

No!

My 177 12″ shoots great… my plan is to buy an 18″ 22 without a bottle and swap mine over depending on what I want to shoot. The 18″ will need a frame extender to tame the noise.

Anyone here got some fps/ft.lbs. stats on an 18″ 22 ? and should I just jump to 25 cal for more power?

I would think the logical answer would be no. I doubt a 12″ barrel will come close to the speeds of a 24″ barrel (especially when wasting air is a concern). This also begs the question I presented that in addition to the concern of wasting air…would the large volume of “unused air” exiting the muzzle of a 12″ barrel disrupt the pellet from the start of its flight. You would think that it would and thus this would be a bad idea. As Walt said, it must be put to the test. I will put in my condor weight soon and give it a try.

Joe

well what i am asking is if i put a 12” barrel on my condor, for making a short handy rifle, this is condor valve , hammer w/ added weight, so a condor with the short barrel whats my fps gong to be before i start waisting a ton of air and need to tune it back .

Air force says 400 to 1000 fps for the Talon SS , so i would think that you could get the 980 to 1000 but that’s what i am asking, because that is what i shoot most of the time is the 14 g. crosman and jsb at 980 to 1000, and if i can do this with the 12” i would like to buy one just to try it out.

Then what is the noise like from the short barrel , is it more than the 24” condor,???? or can it be as quite as the 24” .. w/ shrouds.

I can turn the condor down to what ever fps that i want so there wont be a problem with tuning the gun with the condor valve to not waste air with the 12” barrel .

Just wandering if anyone has put the 12” on the condor and saw what the fps would go up to.

That is most likely with a stock hammer. I have achieved 870’s with my stock hammer and my “flow mod” talon valve. I would think it would get faster with an added hammer weight, no ❓

Now that is a good answer! 🙂

I have 4 Air force Rifles. One is a Talon ss with a high flow tank in 22 caliber. It will shoot in the High 800’ds with the diablo Exacts with the spring weight set on 8.
The 17 caliber will shoot at a high speed and accuracy with the EJ 17 caliber pellets. The Talon tune I have speaks for itself in 25 caliber, top notch.
But for stack em on accuracy and serious shooting at 45 yards which is my limit on Pellets, I use the Marauder. Talon is a guaranteed 1″ at 45 but marauder will stack em up, when I’m having a good day. It all depends on me. This is cold hot wet or dry conditions. The Marauder is the champ for accuracy. But in the big Boars the 308 of mine is Mighty Impressive. All my guns are out of the box accept Tony’s Tallondor I bought of off John condor25. My guns are all keepers not for sale or trade. 😀

i have wanted to put a 12” on the condor too and was wondering can the velocity of 14 grain pellets with condor valve/tank be taken into the 980’s with out waisting allot of air , I’m sure there is a point where you start waisting air and need to turn it down to keep form making noise.

I would like to know where that is. and can the condor SS be as quite as the 24” condor with 13” shroud shooting like this. might have to put one of the shrouds on it that comes out of the frame a little bit.????
