In the mood for a new pistol… suggestions?
I want an accurate pistol plinker that’s also a repeater. Here’s the twist… I’m considering either HPA/CO2 177 Pellet Gun (not BB) or a 22 S/LR Revolver.
So.. what would your top pick be for an accurate gas or powder repeater? If you can link to the gun’s product page – all the better.
Price range approx $300 for HPA/CO2 and $500 for a firearm. Scope or laser is a separate budget.

Never tried to leave one over night, they always got shot up, and i tried to quit when one went empty just so to not have to worry about it leaking out.
then i would put a new one in so to have it loaded and ready to twist the knob and puncture the co2 and go,
That Colt has a pretty neat feature when loading the co2 , what would be the bottom of the clip hinges down , get the co2 cylinder just right then flip up the lever and it punctures the co2. Makes it neat to leave with unpunctured co2 in it and loaded, you just pop the bottom of the mag well like loading a clip and it punctures the co2 and you ready to empty the clip.
Also the Mag release pops the grip off to get to the co2.
Those High Standards are sweet , my friends dad had one when i was in high school, that we tried to ware out.

FWB M1s are bulk fill, its rare to have issues there

I bought a Gamy PT-80 and loosing the CO2 overnight ticks me off.

any of the .22LR pre 1990s target models built in the States
great choices are most of the 1st and 2nd Gen Colts and High Standards, the older Rugers or the S&W M41
real bargains are the 1930s/40s High Standard HDM series which were once used by the OSS as a silenced assassination pistol. The HDM bears an exposed hammer and generaly a great trigger plus quality unseen these days of course plus they can be found very reasonable if you are not seeking a pristine collectors gun.
Had well over a million rounds through a Ruger RST4 before it was stolen…great guns
replaced it with a series of High Standards which I still prefer

as already mentioned the 22XX series has much going for it if you like to screw around
other options are the Drulov…great fun in semi auto
same for the FWB M1…still probably one of the most accurate AG pistols ever made
either can be had in the $400 range, sometimes alot less

Well here is the deal when i was buying these, i was after a gun with the trigger and accuracy of my powder revolvers, to practice at home.
That is when i bought the 1911 gun, and i already had the crosman 1008, i immediately fell in love with the colt, the feel and weight was great.and accuracy was really nice,
but after i shot it a while , the trigger was not match or target ,and i already had the 1008 that took care of the plinking repeater roll.
I would probably still have that colt if i didn’t get a chance on a trade for the RWS M. 6-G, which has the target trigger and accuracy.
The colt is way better of a gun than the crosman 1008 , and the trigger is comparable to a double action powder burner automatic. or the crosman 357 for that matter, but don’t try and compare it to a nice smith & Wesson powder revolver , and this is what i was doing.
The colt is really cool, the safety is just like a 1911, and when you press the slide release just like on the real gun the slide goes forward and you have access to the round Steele magazine. that you can remove from the gun a put another one in for the reload.
Its a cool gun , but what are you wanting , if you want target trigger then this is not it, if your after a comparable gun to a double action semi auto powder gun that is all steele and weights like a real gun then this would be a cool gun for you for .
If your after a plastic gun that will get the job done then the crosman 1008 is great for the price.
I think this is where the wheels come off. Airgun repeaters, other than the smith 586, look lacking. If the 1911 at $200 doesn’t have a good trigger then what’s the point? I don’t mind spending $200 on an accurate air plinker (20yards) but it seems hard to find a quality one.
Told my wife about the Ruger at Academy and she estimates 3 months before I break down and buy it 🙂

I have this , bought it for my boy and it is not bad at all, it’s very accurate, not match accurate but accurate enough to keep you interested. have taken a few black birds with it, and a beer can does not have a chance at 20 to 25 yards. think it shots in the 400’s

The bad thing about these models is the trigger cocks the gun when you pull it, the cylinder rotates when pulling the trigger, but you get the feel of it when shooting and you can get the cylinder rotated when pulling the trigger and and the end the pull is not that bad .
If they would have designed it so you could cock the gun to rotate the dam cylinder it would be great.
I had a 586 crosman too or the crosman 357 along time ago , and they are fun to shoot, dont remember ever shooting much target with it , but it could roll the cans from across the yard.
Had this one and traded it off , it was much better quality over the crosman , and the feel and weight were just about like a 1911 colt, but the trigger was no better than the crosman.but if this is what your into its a very nice gun,

I wanted a gun that had a precise trigger for practicing for the real stuff and ended up with the Rws M. 6 G. This gun will shoot .
I have a modded 1377 that does single shot air… I’m interested in an air repeater.
I held the Ruger MKIII blue target and stainless steel target with wooden grips. It’s a nice gun to hold and it sounds like it can shoot. I asked the sales associate to walk me to the front door to stop me buying it. They laughed – but I WILL BE BACK!
Buy a Zoraki/Alecto and be done with it, 1 pump for 300 fps, 2 pumps 400 fps, 3 pumps high 400’s with 14 grain .22 pellets.
Add a 30.00 .177 barrel and get mid 600’s!!
No Co2 means all year all weather shooting. 😀
Buy from the Canadian Airgun Forum for 250.00 as they are 359.00 in the US.

as much as i hate to say it the 22xx series will drag you in…they are easy to mod and realitivly vheap to play with…RoachCreek sent me one of his 2240’s in trade and the first shot i took with it was a starling at 25yrs with a cross wind 😯 ….I can only hope that my 2260 shoots as well when its done…Greg
TX is very friendly for silencers and I may consider that down the road. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for a good price on a new Ruger mk3.

A quality air plinker pistol would be nice (repeater 177 or 22)… has anyone experienced a good one? Or should I give up and go for a 22xx pistol?
One really cool aspect of a Ruger is that they are very readily suppressed and some manufacturers sold them as an entire unit. The AWC Amphibian is one I used and really liked. Since you’re in an a very NFA friendly state it’s an option.
I would not say that the ruger mark 2 is more accurate than a good smith 17 but it is as accurate ,the smith will come with a better trigger, you will have to put an after market trigger in the ruger to equal the smith.
All my smith & Wessons are older pinned guns and i have never sold one , well with the exception of a M. 48 22 Mag that i traded like a dummy. 😈 and all had sweet triggers. I have had several rugers and i always seem to trade them off and then buy another one later.
I have never had the Mark 3 , so cant say about them, all have been Mark 2’s , and all very accurate. with the right ammo , and most of them i put clark parts in .
You will be able to buy the ruger allot cheaper,but buy allot of ammo that guns seem to have hell of a appetite.
I do have a buddy that bought the 617 and it is very accurate . i have shot it several times.I believe this is the only one they make now, you can still get a K 22 Masterpiece used. I see them at the gun show all the time.
A Model 17 K- 22 Masterpiece with 8 ” barrel and the thress t’s, target hammer , target trigger, target sights, was the first handgun i owned, had my money saved for it , and dad payed in some. When i was about 15 i think.
I have all barrel lengths for the K-22’s , the dam smiths are like a freaking plague for me.
Model 29’s are the same way for me too. 😉
I traded that 22 mag because all the critters that i would take i really didn’t need the extra power , and the shells cost so much , and it was really loud, about equal to a snub 38. but it was a pristine pinned gun with a pare of herret’s stocks.
sure would like to see it siting in the safe with the K-22’s dammit.
You cant go wrong with the ruger or a smith.just need to make up your mind if you want to load magazines 10 rounds, or load a cylinder. they are both cool. but with the magazine’s you can have several and just keep sliding them in a putting rounds down range but when you empty them all you have to sit and load them all up.
With the revolver it always seemed better to me. shoot 6 and load six.? always seemed a drag for me to reload all the magazines.
semi auto is more accurate in lr in my opinion due to having a fixed bble and chamber
with a revolver you have 6 or more chambers so if one is a thousandths larger it might let bullet expand a bit more and thus shoot a tad different
with my MKIII at 100 yds set up 10 pop cans i can knock all of em down free handed 8 outta 10 times

dont rule out beeman P1’s for an accurate fun airpistol
i had one i sold to 80grit and i loved it it was ver accurate, pretty powerful for a pistol and fun to shoot and trigger was SWEET
