Initial evaluation of Subssonic Gen2 Drop in insert for TSS
I received my new Subssonic’s Gen2 drop in inserts for my TSS today. First impressions out of the box was…..WOW….this is different….and Delrin….and man do I need to get this in to my Talon SS and see what it will do reaction. I have presently use a 12″ screw in shroud with vented front barrel bushing with the frame vent mod (4ea 1/16 holes) drilled into the underside of the frame.
Here’s the Subssonic Gen2 Drop in insert.
Overall construction and finish are superb. The design is unique. The insert fits snugly into the frame and has an indentation for the barrel end grub screw. (Note the grips I bought and received from Mywifeboughtit this last weekend….sweet I love the grips)
Compared to the screw in shroud, I get back to the short, easy to swing out the back door style and feel of the stock Talon SS. For the backyard stealth gun, the ability to swing the gun around and out of the door is a serious consideration. Nice to have that feeling on my first test run again after the added length of the other shroud
I did have a small issue with removing the insert. The fit is tight and I couldn’t get enough of a grip on the barrel end to pull it out. That was easily solved by reaching in with a small pick, hooking one of the inner lips of the insert and pulling it out. Maybe a couple of indenations on each side to grab with a fingernail would be in order? Not sure it this would ruin the look of the polished fit or not.

As for sound test compared to my internal 12″ shroud, which is pretty close to hammer slap quiet, Subssonics’ Gen2 drop in insert is just a tiny bit louder but not by much and still very backyard friendly. I tested at night and always evaulate the sound of the gun firing so that the report won’t have any of the neighbors looking up in their living rooms and saying WTF was that??? They definitely won’t with Subs new Gen2 drop in insert. Considering that the cost is very reasonable compared to other choices with the added benefit of getting back to the standard TSS factory length of 32 inches for improved door swing factor, I think it’s definitely worth having.

I posted in the gen. section but i will throw on up here as well… I am currently sold out of the gen1 and gen2 inserts and have bids in from 2 of 4 machine shops to have more made.. With my new schedule i dont have the free time that i did have and with the kid needing more attention than before my shop time is all but gone.. The up side is that this will give me more time to develope new accessories for the airforce line of guns…

Yes he sent me a pm with pricing and such. Still haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I have my new .25 talon ss and it is very loud.

😀 Got my Gen2 yesterday. It was kind of like waiting for my decoder ring to arrive from Captain Midnight. Only better when it got here. 😆 Vented my front bushing and two 1/8 holes in my frame. Didn’t get my front bushing location good enough and was a bitch getting both lined up 😳 has to be a better way than trial and losts of errors. But I did get r done. Time to test fire….WOW what a difference and worth the effort. Thanks Greg. Only fired three shots out into the dark back yard but the TSS was much more neighbor friendly. Not whisper quite but much better than without it. Worth the money? You bet… 😉
In short yes….. venting the front bushing and frame will help just dont go over-board on venting the frame you only need two 1/8″ holes under the forgrip to do the job….

I put one of Greg’s Gen2 inserts in my TSS and vented the front bushing. Helped quite a bit. Have not vented the frame yet.
Just sent Greg an order for a Gen2. Now I waite… 🙂 I read here more volume is one of the keys to taming noise down. So what about venting the front barrel bushing then the frame behind or between the bushings. Would not this be an easy way to increase the volume a little bit. ❓ Any thoughts here I’m sure not against drilling a few holes in my frame if it would help some. 😈
Phil- Dont feel too bad as i’ve dissambled more than one shroud accross my back yard or the shop…. 👿 …. It’s beyond irratating but it does happen some times…. Shoot me a PM and let me know what the total damage is…… 😳

Should she what happens when my .308 tank dumps. Makes a big mess and it blows my light into pieces and I have to glue it back together.
Well I had no problem getting mine out last night, Hi Flow tank dump . I still cant find all of it, only a few small pieces. My second to last shot over the chrony was at 960 with cp’s so I tried a JSB monster that’s when it went bad I don’t know what happened . But today I still cant find the baffles except for a few small pieces and I still have to fix my chrony. But the ringing and the swelling in my ears has gone down . Its a learning experience that I wont soon forget
