Interest Check – Taipan Mag Holders – Cricket Too!
All Replies
So I woke up this morn and all was fine until I went to turn of a light I had on the same circuit as the printer and it froze my print with no way to recover. So I’ll have to start all over again from the beginning. My first real hiccup in this venture. I’ll restart the print but instead of doing 12 at once I’m gonna play it safe and do 4 at a time. 11 hours into a print and wasted is not very fun. So needless to say, I apologize, these will not ship today but shooting now for Monday. I do apologize.
So, taking a jab at myself…any interest in a 25% off sale on these holders that printed about 75% of the way through? 😐 :confusedn: :sadn: :4:

Just a couple of timelapse videos. This one was a nest from last night. 8 hours for just six holders, so yes, it’s time-consuming. So don’t any of you yahoo’s make the mistake of assuming they print as fast as these timelapses depict!
Please note that the vertical pillars below the holder’s arms are there for support structures. They are necessary for lines that would otherwise have to print in thin air. They are removed after the print has finished. Those of you who 3D print already know this.
Surface finish has improved from this one but will never be as good as injection molded. That’s the nature of 3D printing.
Also I’ve decided to try my luck and print away from home whilst at work. Here’s a screenshot of the same nest being printed again this morn. They’ll be done before I get home, barring any mishaps.

Cricket mag holder fun… and speaking of Cricket, anyone know if there’s a huge difference in dimensions between the .25 Cricket mags and the .177/.22? The .177/.22 mags are a larger O.D. than are the Veteran .25’s and to get three side by side as Greg demonstrates above is to have the mags just miss touching one another by a hair…or less. I’m not so sure .25 Cricket mags would fit 3 side x side.

Thanks guys so far for the sales. Looks like there will definitely be demand. Now let me start getting to work on the supply! I’ve got an Octoprint setup that allows for online control so I can print from work but I’m not at that level of trust just yet. Say I print a nest of 8 to 10 at a time and something tiny goes fubar, well, the entire run is scrapped. Sometimes up to 95% through the cycle. So needless to say for now I’d much rather babysit my prints and keep an eye out, which means slower supply.
If any buyers/users don’t mind, please post up pics and thoughts when you get them. I’ll be non-stop printing during my waking hours when I’m not stuck at my dreadful full time job. I couldn’t wait to get started when I got home from work tonight but boy, is this a slooooow process. Hoping to get the first few orders out by Saturday. Then I’ve got life to deal with and all its chores and obstacles, just like everyone else…. :biggrinn:
PM is not working?
Both 22 mutant barrels are the same size, CZ and Linstone OD that is
Keep shooting the sparrows there like the rats of the sky, Very smart bird, Well after about four years or so they caught on to me,
I am looking into using Camo blind covers.

By the way, after shooting golf balls long distance I’ve gone back to hitting house sparrows at 115 at will with zero POI change. 😉
These Taipans are nothing like my Benjamin P-rod. You just look at that shroud the wrong way and POI changes. :4:

Bizill, Not warn just picture flash angle.
1 x 3 on my Cricket 22 std/hacked stock

It even holds my Polymag anti-jamming device (seen in Red), some Cricket owners wonder why Polys don’t fly good.
This fix will prevent the red tips from damage when cocking which causes them to group larger than they should.

I was asked how they work via pm so I’ll repost my answer here….
I was hoping to make a quick video this weekend of them in use. I don’t have these in stock as I had NO idea if anyone would even be interested so I’ll be whipping some up double-quick. They sure are nice to have once you have them and I will NOT be taking them off.
They just pop right onto the barrel with their rear arm clips. Tthey also interlock so a person can fit 3 on each side for a total of 6. I only have two mags so I use only 2. Then the mags simply push in and pull out. I wanted them to work with simplicity and be able to be used one-handed and using one simple movement.
ETA: I’m hoping these help sell some Taipans as well, being that there’s one less “complaint” against them.
Greg, that’s awesome on the Polymags, the way you insert the mags with the red plastic tip out. Quick visual reference to which mag is which and like you said, an unintended benefit is a place to hold your mag as you load pellets into them. And judging by your pics one can see you really do shoot your mags A LOT! The finish looks worn on them unless that’s the flash washing out the black.
Thanks for the kind words guys and thanks for the feedback that lead to the final versions. I have literally 40-50 rejected holders on my desk as we speak, and being each one takes over an hour to print, lots of man hours as well. Never knew prototyping could take so long on what seems so simple. Actually, My very first prints were a success in my opinion, but the final versions are much better, lower profile and stronger.
Hot car, that’s where PETG would have come in better as its glass transition point is higher, meaning it won’t become “malleable” until hotter temps. The PLA used works just fine though and doens’t “drag” the mag as the PETG did. I’ve tried mine in the Arizona sun in my truck which gets upwards of 130-140 degrees and they hold fine, especially if you don’t handle them until they’ve cooled. I’ve also popped them in the freezer (without the airgun, lol) and popped my mags in and out without any issue so freezing weather guys out there ought to have no problems.
Yes, they can be a snagging hazard if you’re not careful, but you’d really have to be careless or have the worst luck to break these. They are obviously best left with mags held in them, full or empty ones to negate any sort of snagging hazard. Also the retention is quite good, you can run hard with them and the will not be popping out unless snagged on a branch if you’re not careful whilst out on your hunting trip. I did make some that held the mags WAY too tightly and you could barely get them out using brute force so I went back to lighter retention that’s a perfect balance between ease of insertion/removal and holding strength.
One more point to note, it was suggested to make these out of metal or aluminum. That’d be a whole different ball game. Many problems would come into play with this design, namely you’d scratch the hell out of your barrel, air tube and not to mention scratch the hell outta your mags. With polylactic acid, or PLA, no worries over this.
I am surprised no one has thought of this before. I have two and they are a money savor because now I know where my mags are  I used to lose them all the time in a pile of other mags. Just like GKU said, snaps right into the barrel and holds the mag very snug. Great job Bizill
The Mag Holders …….. they work like a charm ! :8:
Holds snug, won’t fallout easy, snaps in place, don’t think I’d leave a PCP in a hot vehicle…. but Bizill can answer that for yah.
Here is 3 x 3 on my Veteran Shorty 25 cal …. I fill to get only 2 mags but like to have them Ploys ready to go too.
Other extra holders are to hold empty mags which if placed gear out can be loaded at your leisure without removing them, very cool like having an extra hand to hold em !

2 x 3 on my Mutant 22 cal ……

3 x 3 on my Cricket Compact 177 cal, now there’s a mag holder option for the Skeleton stock :8: …….

I don’t leave to go to the farm for pesting without them, I’m spoiled at the convenience right at my fingertips.
~ Greg
Do these hold the magazines snug? I just want to make sure that a small bump while carrying would not make it fall out easy. Does it kind of snap in place? If these were left in car on hot sunny day would they weaken or would they still hold firm?
I thinking of buying 2
Also, forgot to mention, these allow you to insert the magazine into the holder in either direction, skirt in or skirt out.
