Is there an Edgun similar to the Cricket compact
length-wise, I mean. The Compact Cricket is said no longer available. I could probably find one used, but truth be told an Edgun Compact Bullpup appeals to me. Maybe I just need something to dream for until the $$ solidify. I’ll visit the product page. My need is for a quiet back-door bull pup (multi-shot, if possible). Edgun bull pup that fits the bill is my preference.

The .25s I think are supposed to last 7500 shots and I suspect the .22s longer.
In short, for the outlay I’d like to be comfy that i bought a high quality piece. I guess I want Harrier accuracy in a bull pup. Is that ate-up?
OK, so do I understand the Edgun valve stems issues being limited to the .30? I won’t have needs for that caliber, so….safe!!!! I still want to check out the Leyla. I saw some videos of hunting with it. I’m really focused (ADHD-like) on the pipe dream of a sub.MOA performance inside of 50 yards (think urban core here). I’d like whichever to be more accurate than I am so I’m the weak link in the chain (Hey! I can get better!) In short, for the outlay I’d like to be comfy that i bought a high quality piece. Exactly – thank you for the nice picture. The .25 is called just “Cricket” or some refer to it as a “Cricket Long”.

Are you going to shoot it or swing it? 😆 Robust = weight normally so robust only in critical areas is more important. The Edgun may be a bit more robust and heavier overall but the valve stems may be the weaker. KalibrGun has been more weight conscious. In practice both have been very reliable.
I would say since the Crickets now all have metal valve stems they should be less prone to breakage. The harder the hit the more likely they break and the large calibers tend to hit harder than the smaller ones. The initial 30 cal Edguns had a pretty high failure rate by about 1000 shots. Since then Ed has beefed the stem, hammer, spring up a bit but replacements are not yet available for the existing 30s. I just emailed Tony who is visiting the Edgun factory in Russia and he should let me know what we can do to our existing 30s soon. Mine is at 1650 shots w/o a break so far and I have a few spares of the old stems.

so build quality is about the same between the Cricket and the Edgun? Or, is one more robustly built? Which is more prone to valve stem failure, for instance?

I have both the STD Cricket and Edgun short in .22. The Edgun is 1/2 an inch longer than the STD Cricket.

I have it on reliable authority that Secoda has roughly 4.5″ on a warm day under dry conditions! Given a cold rain, or during Winter, he’d have to pull on it real hard to hit the 3.5″ he normally packs! :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Nothing has changed. This is per KalibrGun’s catalog and I quoted the exact model names. My statement is correct. Now some special order guns were made but that is another story. The Cricket Standard is shorter than the Short Edgun. The .25 Cricket was originally not a Cricket Standard.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Leyla. I watched several videos, and will locate and check out the specs. I get what you say about multi-shot. I haven’t owned one in a while, not counting a Parker-Hale Phoenix that’s in parts right now. I’ve been living the one, or two-shot (FX Timberwolf) life for a while, and wanted to a magazine a “spin” :rofl: Anyway, single shot Leyla. I’ll look into it.

Depends on the caliber. The .25 standard Matador is shorter than the Cricket .25 cal. That was one of the reasons I purchased an Edgun over a cricket because I didn’t like the longer length of the .25 cal cricket.

The Leyla comes in .177 caliber, and it’s an accurate little ball buster. 50 yards is nothing for that little pcp! Go to Youtube.com and search for “Edgun Leyla” and watch some of Ed’s Leyla target shooting videos.
As a lefty, I like the Leyla’s pull-back breech to load. No bolt or levers to contend with. Granted it’s a single shot, but I’ve never been one to need multiple shots with an Edgun. I just point it and a hole appears where my crosshairs are placed. I actually used an Edgun short to prune some bagworms off a tree in my back yard a few years back. The branch was 1/4″ thick and I cut it off with three shots at about 150 feet.
The Cricket’s got a real complicated magazine system. You almost need three hands to hold the cocking lever back to keep the firing pin out of the way of the magazine, a hand to hold the magazine, and another hand to operate the small knob that keeps the magazine from double-loading. It works, but it takes a bit of getting used to.
Ed has a production of Leyla’s going on now and Tony is taking orders if you decide to go that way. Tony might have a short Matador in stock as we speak. One consideration, the Leyla is several hundred dollars less expensive than the Matador.
