Is THIS what you call good Whiskey ?
A friend from US just came over for a Vacation. He knows i like Whiskey ( Scotch, Irish and Japanese ) so he bought me “one of the finest from US”. Oh Boy … I’ve been over there countless of times and during many of those visits i’ve come to this final conclusion :
A : You guys don’t know the difference between Whiskey and Terpentine.
B : You just TRY to fool the Tourists to think that you do. You just name it ” Kentucky “.
C : You’re all too drunk to know the difference between Whiskey and …. I don’t know what.
Now – i urge you all to go to your local, friendly dealer of alcohol and tell them that THIS 
Is NOT accepted for Human consumption.
While OK for …. Desinfection ( if it isn’t the reason for many ) it sure as hell isn’t Whiskey.
Now: i haven’t trued this magical elixire for barrel cleaning yet but i’m pretty sure the good old German snake oil called Ballistol beats it at that too …

There are plenty of shitty things where you come from, I am pretty sure.
I’ll drink one in your name. I am surely not at your level of tasting, and of such a fine palate, but I enjoy any US made whiskey.
And If it is turpentine to you, more for me, and for those made of steel that can drink turpentine and still be the best in the world.

The only likeable ” Bourbon ” for me is the Makers Mark so you can gladly have the rest of them. And there are loads of shitty things over here. You’re right about that. Scotch and Irish Whiskey, however , are not those things.

Which one is ??
Technically, Jack Daniels is “Tennesssee Whisky”. Tennessee whisky is (a) bourbon, (b) produced in Tennessee, and (c) produced under Tenneessee requirements, mainly an additional maple charcoal filtering step. So it is a bourbon variant, but none of the Tenneessee whisky makers call it bourbon.

This is a great place to get an idea of anything you might find in your local liquor store.
At least it gives a hint of what you might be getting rather than that crappy “advice” you get from the sites that just copy and paste from the maker’s websites… Although they have some of the maker’s notes as well. The reviews are what help here.

I had some of this at a Total Wines liquor store last week. (Burnsville, MN.. ask one of the guys nicely and they may accommodate you….)
They have wine and beer samples on Fridays and Saturdays and they had a flavored French liqueur and a whiskey they were sampling with some mixes they had as well.
The whiskey wasn’t remarkable at all (can’t remember what it was….) and one of the employees who was standing to one side heard me say as much.
He chuckled and said… “You should try some ‘1792’….” To which the guy manning the tasting said he had a bottle in the back that was opened during a whiskey tasting they had done recently. He asked if I’d like to try it. Of course I agreed and he retrieved it and gave me a taste….
Man…. I really liked it…. it has a little sweetness to it, a lot of flavor… in a good way… and none of that “I just sucked on a smoky stick dipped in whiskey” flavor
Price is right too.. around $27.00.
As soon as I finish off what I have… and I don’t drink a lot….. darn…. I’m getting a bottle of this.

There are some moonshiners that wil take a piece of white oak branch and char it in the oven, then place the branch in the third quart of the malted corn whiskey……… Very satisfying flavor, too bad vile can’t get none in Sweden.
To my knowledge the Samuels family still owns makers mark distillery. My great great grandfather surrendered to the Union army at the distillery after the civil war and was given a full pardon in large part by pleas from the Samuels family….. All the more reason to drink makers.

acourvil, I agree taste is very subjective. Just remind yourself when discussing taste with Ville you need to add a health dose of herring oil. Some say it enhances the flavor of life itself, mostly Finn’s, just a guess on my part, no data!! 😆

Yep! Never seen Japanese Bourbon.
Like i said earlier i like the Makers Mark. It has the Vanilla-like aftertaste like various single malts. Some Scotch really taste like Rat poison – even really expensive ones. The price is no quarantee for the taste since some like Scotch with that extensively smoked flavour. They taste like sucking a Tar covered stick of Oak.
