Is THIS what you call good Whiskey ?
A friend from US just came over for a Vacation. He knows i like Whiskey ( Scotch, Irish and Japanese ) so he bought me “one of the finest from US”. Oh Boy … I’ve been over there countless of times and during many of those visits i’ve come to this final conclusion :
A : You guys don’t know the difference between Whiskey and Terpentine.
B : You just TRY to fool the Tourists to think that you do. You just name it ” Kentucky “.
C : You’re all too drunk to know the difference between Whiskey and …. I don’t know what.
Now – i urge you all to go to your local, friendly dealer of alcohol and tell them that THIS 
Is NOT accepted for Human consumption.
While OK for …. Desinfection ( if it isn’t the reason for many ) it sure as hell isn’t Whiskey.
Now: i haven’t trued this magical elixire for barrel cleaning yet but i’m pretty sure the good old German snake oil called Ballistol beats it at that too …

Who owns them doesn’t change the taste. A good Scotch , even blended , beats most Bourbon. Any day.
Just had some Blantons single barrel, thought it was pretty good. Very smooth, nice bourbon flavor but with a bit more of the dry finish that you get with scotch (but without the iodine taste).
I’ll have to pick up a bottle of the Knob Creek and see what you guys are talking about.
BTW, a lot of the Kentucky bourbon makers are now owned by Japanese companies.
I drink a lot of Calvert Extra, a blended whisky. Pretty smooth and not near as costly as Knob Creek.
To my knowledge The Calvert is Canadian. Am i wrong ?
I just stated that Japanese Whiskeys are Great. I’ve tasted them all from Nikka to Yamazaki. 😉 Truly Great stuff !
Sir Ville , my sister-in-law has been living in Japan for over thirty years and she has given to me many different types of good drinking spirits
when she comes to the U.S. to visit her sister . When she came this last June she gave me a very nice bottle of Japan Whisky . It is called Gold
& Gold NIKKA WHISKY made by THE NIKKA WHISKY DISTILLING CO-LTD. If you ever get a chance to try it you just may like it .

I have to agree with Leadbetter: Knob Creek is the best tasting whisky that I have ever had. Very hard to find sometimes and kinda pricey!

Knob creek is the best, although they only sell a thousand barrels a year. Makers mark is the best bang for your buck. That shit from Tennessee at worth a fuck. Use it for guest you don’t like. It’s almost as bad as heaven hill but with a makers mark price.
I like Makers Mark. But still – it ain’t no Whiskey. 😉
It’s not bottom shelf, but it’s not top shelf. In that price range for a bourbon, I would go for Eagle Rare 10 or Elmer T Lee (if you can find it, Elmer T has become hard to find at retail prices).
What do you think is good whisky? I notice you didn’t put bourbon in your list (Scotch, Irish and Japanese). Is there something you don’t like about that style?

To each his own, I guess. Sounds like you don’t like the corn or rye flavor. I’ve had some scotch that I thought was pretty good, but I’ve also had some supposedly good (or at least expensive) scotch that I thought tasted like paint thinner.
My point about the ownership was that bourbon is very popular in Japan along with real scotch and the Japanese whiskeys (which are mostly the same style as scotch as far as I can tell).
