Q:

Line up barrel and air tube

I reset my barrel on my 25 this evening and I was wondering how do you know barrel and air tube are on the same axis. Once you align the barrel with centering screw you can twist barrel any way you like , so how does one know they are properly aligned. I just leveled the block with the scope rail and crossed my fingers its good. Anyone have a rock solid solution for this?

Thanks!! Me and wood things generally don’t get along so I’ll probably use all metal but i’m going to make one of these jigs! Probably get started this weekend since it’s gonna rain all weekend here 🙁 If I can get my Hawke scope back to it’s optic center with shims, it will make videoing SO much easier! Lucked out on the cheap Chinese PA FFP scope on my .22… I only had to move the turrets a few clicks to get it dead on at 40 yards. I can slap the camera on it and be ready to shoot with little effort. That’s what I want to do with my .25… want to “do” me a hog shot with it… 🙂

When getting a gauge you need to figure out how deep your going to be measuring.
The one shown is my short one, I have another longer one at work.

Here’s the jig in pieces.

Charlie, to measure your scope cam set up you can reconfigure the jig with the gauge on the end instead.

Any more questions or pics let me know.

Good read GKU. Thanks

I’m thinking for best accuracy in line up of barrel/AT, remove the stock and index off a flat surface rather than the stock? I played with a metal workbench and never could get it to be consistent… flexing of the work bench, random placement of the gun, etc. just could not make it work.

Great! Thanks, I appreciate it. Interested to see the bottom view and what you used for “feet”… maybe nyloc set screws or something or just dog point metal to prevent deformation??

For me it a must to check all my Airguns alignment of barrel with the scope rail mainly.
But with some gun like the Cricket the frame controls that plus the AT also.
On some guns the error is a parallel one, on the Cricket it pivots off of the receiver and if it’s off it will have a lateral misalignment.
If one is off they all will be, and you can make up the difference with the ordinary scope rings or the Burris signature zee rings.

I prefer to keep my compensation with the rings to a minimum.
But if your having to compensate to much with any rings, I suspect that the gun is off alignment somewhere and theses jigs help me find it quickly.

Some refer Lateral error as Canting error ?

~ ATB ~ GKU, p.s. Charlie I’ll take the depth gauge jig apart and take some pic today when I return from my day job.

Wow Greg, you are a tinkerer extraordinaire! One of the things that I liked about this pcp air gun stuff is that videoing shots in slo-mo is pretty easy to do because of the lack of heavy recoil… However getting the camera lined up with a good field of view and having the cross hair/reticle centered in the screen is not always easy. This will solve that problem! I’m going to steal your idea and build one of these little puppies. I’d already been trying to figure out how to stick my magnetic base dial consistently to the gun… Thx!

Now that is kick butt!

Damn GKU when do you have time to shoot with all that measuring ?

Someone wanted to see my depth measuring jug used with the jig above to check the guns alignment.
After which it is used to check the rings for any errors, both made some +30 years ago.

I didn’t want to remove the stock, shroud and scope to take a picture, seen here as an example of its use.

It is fully adjustable in all directions.

Usually I wouldn’t post this pic because it can cause a lot of confusion for a newbie.
Please don’t even ask me to explain what is written, I can’t make out beans what I did way back then.

But this is how I adjust the UTG rings alignment once I knew the barrel is straight inline with the AT and scope rail by using my jig.

No, this jig is known and made perfectly centered/parallel with its rings it uses.
If one uses their scope and rings you need to have the rings on center and parallel with it first.

When it’s used it will tell me if the barrel is off with anyway with other parts (rail, AT, etc.) on the gun by measuring the right places across.

At this point I may make adjustments to the gun if possibly before scope mounting.
If the error is small I’d leave it alone and make any correction in the scope rings when mounting the scope like I mention above.

Doesn’t my scope do the same thing

This is one of my lateral alignment jig which I use to check all my Airguns before mounting of a scope can even begin.

The aluminum pipe I got from onlinemetals.
The rings are lapped and on center/parallel with each other.
I have ring set for both types of rails and scope diameters that I keep for this jig only.

I am using the Burris signature Zee Rings and from day one I had to compensate Quite a bit to line it up
