Q:

Long Range shooting with the Vulcan .25

Well I have an update for you guys, this is not really a review more a show and tell so I thought it best to put in the general section. I have had the Vulcan for about 6 weeks (my initial review is in the review section). This Vulcan is how she came from the factory, that is I have not tuned the gun. As a manner of fact I have not even cleaned the barrel. I don’t usually mess with guns that are shooting accurately. This is my first bullpup that I have owned that hasn’t need some sort of tuning to make the gun perform All of them required at least a HST adjustment and most required a tuning of the regulator and HST to get the gun to perform the way I expected.

The specs of the shoot:
Vulcan .25
Rate of twist 17.7 right handed
JSB 25.39 thin skirt
unsorted pellets
940 FPS
SWFA SS 12X42 mil-quad reticle MIL/MIL
20 MOA Nightforce one piece mount
67 degrees
wind 8 MPH southwest
Barometer 29.96
1200 feet above sea level
Target 3 degree slope
Target size 8″ diameter bullseye about the size of a dime

Distance #1 150 yards
Vertical correction +8.1 MRAD
horizontal correction -3.8 MRAD
Distance #2 200 yards
Vertical correction 14.2 MRAD
horizontal Correction -5.2 MRAD

My first target was set at 150 yards. I have been shooting this gun at 100 yards getting comfortable with how it jumps and feels. There is a little technique to shooting the vulcan because of the gun’s size and weight it tends to jump a little. Putting the right “squeeze” on the gun took some time to figure out

150 yards. When I saw this target up close I knew she could hit at 200

A view of the target to my table

Looking down range 200 yards

Here is the 200 yard target. I shot three groups. The wind at my table was lying to me. I could see the mirage moving right to left but I was getting a left to right wind at the bench. So I took a shot, I hit left of the bullseye and I began walking the pellets to the center. I was amazed at how predictable the pellet was at this range. After making the horizontal correction to the right I shot three times at the bullseye and I got what I thought was a very respectable group. The last group consisted with a single marker shot to make a new bullseye( bottom right) and then followed by 2 shots that almost
touched the first hole At this point I decided to pack up my things and head home. I know I may never do that again.

If by any chance you come across a disheveled old man in a robe walking on the side of the road in or around Hot Springs Village Arkansas don’t stop just keep driving. You are doing no one any favors picking him up. Most likely he is off his meds again confused trying to hitch a ride to the airport to get a flight to Sweden. Please call the local authorities. They know how to deal with him.

And you still don’t want to put bipods on those nice bullpups you own. What’s up Keyser?

You are talking bathed in pure rain water from birth, all corn-fed, Swedish Department of Agriculture graded “AAAA Prime” Quality Goods, excellent fat content, with marbling in all the right places….I doubt anyone on this forum could afford a pint of her used bath water! And, the blond one will beat the living shit out of you for even asking! I’m talking “hospital quality” beating, with breathing tubes, IV lines, and they will likely have to feed you through your ass with an enema tube for a month or more!!!

Anything that good is pure evil and dangerous!

It has been widely know on TAG that leadbetter uses a pair of double Ds for a gun rest. Truth be told those are the only reason he shoots airguns.

I ran her off last month! She was spending all my gun money on tattoos. I’ve tried to make a trade with ville for one of his lovely daughters to no avail!

I thought I was a poor shot that should give up coffee and buy more expensive guns but now I see that I’ve been living as a poor man in a world of high tech cheating device users.
Hope I can get a gun clamp before either my Talon Tunes Vulcan .22 or Dyotat .257 get here.

You know you want one vise !

Point taken. It sure would be fantastic to see your setup in a comparison with different guns in building with no wind, at 75-100-150- 200 yds. Just to see how good these barrels really are. That would be taking away all human error.

Vice I am the worst free hand shooter in the world. I suck so badly at shooting off hand that when I hit something it is pure excitement. I’m just ok at bag and bipod. I am able to shoot long range because I have been well trained at doing the work before my hand touches the trigger. Why I would like a rail gun set up or a vice is to gauge my ability vs the gun’s. I know I’ll never out shooting these guns but I would like to have a baseline of perfection then practice to see how close I could get to that point.

Keester. What’s the point in mounting a gun on a table or your truck in a vise and shooting groups. There’s really no shooting skills involved here. Aren’t you defeating the purpose of showing us your shooting expertise. And also with all the other contraptions that are shown here. Let’s be realistic and use whats really used in our everyday use. A bipod or bags should be sufficient. Unless you want to check out what the guns capabilities are thats a whole different issue. Let’s say you take your different guns and compare them side by side, that would be really interesting to me.

Damn ! That’s genius.

You’ll have to hold the joystick in your non dominant hand while firing is the only trick I’ve found with it.

That breaks the deal for me . I have two dominant hands.,
