Looking T.H. setting suggestions for stock Talon valve.
Right now I measured it at .08 from the factory. What are you guys setting yours at? T.I.A.

I applied steady pressure with my wrench but didn’t try and fight a 1/8 or 1/4 turn out of it. So I was firm but when I felt resistance I didn’t increase pressure, I just held it for a second.
I’ve never seen a hi-flo valve but I can measure my stock valve. It has a wall thickness of .0280″, opening diameter of .1155″. I took several measurements because its fairly tricky to do as the TH is flush with the valve head.
SSS does the Talon valve dent as easily as the Hi-Flo valve does? It looks like the wall of the stem is thicker.
I guess this means I need a high flow valve, does the list ever end???

Maybe not Mike. What numbers are you getting now? Shot count? Barrel length? Fill pressure? Velocity?
EDIT: Mike I went back and read your specs. I think you might not be able to get any closer to 1000 Fps. with an 18″ and using 21.1 Kodiaks. BUT BUT BUT I sure would like to try before I bought another tank or valve. I’ll mess with my Talon valve ASAP and let you know what I get. Keep in mind I have a 24″ barrel though.
Dammit

Great idea!
Yes, breach closed but hammer cocked, unwind the TH until it mates. Tighten both grubs to secure the TH. Remove tank. Drop blue LT on one grub unwind and then wind back in until home, do not over tighten. Repeat for the other grub. Let set for 12 hours.
I have shot both tanks down to 1000psi and never had a tank dump. I shoot one 2700->2200psi and the other for plinking with 7gn wadcutters 1500psi->1000psi.
12 months on, no problems, no tank dumps. Maybe I’m wasting air but I still get 35 or so 40 yard shots on the 2700psi tank.
Just a tip for those that may read this….When adjusting your T.H. it’s a good idea to put a close fitting drill bit inside the Hi-Flo valve to keep from putting dents in the stem. I had dented mine but Tony fixed it (Thanks Tony :thumb: ) I think Adam is the one who gets credit here or he may have got it elsewhere, not sure.
Yeah that is very true. Too much air will slow down the pellet. Which is why a chrony is a highly recommended tool for air gun tuning 😆
I put .093 just cause the one top-hat I played with extensively, on a hi-flow Condor, to get maximum speed is set at .093 after that it started slowing down the shot.
Real experience with this setup below:

IMHO, yes it would. I would just make contact and back off a touch. Thanks SSS.
I wonder if this sets one up for a tank dump when tank pressure is low, the valve spring and air pressure would have to overcome the relaxed hammer spring pressure pushing back on the tophat after the shot, wouldn’t it?
So you close the breech and advance the tophat until it is tight in the breech, when you bring the breech back are you exerting any pressure against the tophat? I have a bit of play in mine- I could see if the tophat-breech junction is not tight there would be another impact between the breech and tophat in addition to the hit of the hammer to the breech.
Hmmmm
Maybe I will crank mine out and see what happpens 🙄
Don’t have a chrono. I just shoot at 40 yards until performance drops off. I fill to 2600-2700psi with a 177 12″ TSS.
I’ve just measured my top hats for you but remember they were set to be snug against the breech, not set to a specific number.
Tank 1 – 0.097
Tank 2 – 0.090
Just my 2 cents.
Tell me more…….What is the gap measurement? What are the particuilars of your gun? How much Psi do you fill to and when do you refill? How many shots @ What velocity? T.I.A. SSS

Yeah the High Flo has a thinner wall than the Lo Flo.
