manufacture air cylinder
Hello,,
Can I use aluminum 6061-T6 in the manufacture of air cylinder 1.5 OD X 0.125 wall for 200 BAR ?

Its only 4mm wall when it arrives. Starts as 38 OD but is profiled to same spec as HW100.
Bigest OD is 37mm, but steps down to 35.7mm.
I got it oversize so as to give a machined finish.
It is rare to find 4mm wall !
Actually very strong.
30mm ID with 4mm wall thickness.
May I know diameter and the thickness of the tube?
Ive just this morning pressure tested a tube. My pump goes up to 100’000psi. But the gauge and hoses only to 700bar (10’000psi)
I clamped a tube in the vice so the plugs couldn’t blow out, and pumped to 700bar. The tube expanded to 37.16mm from 37mm.
The i took it outside to try n blow the plugs. Again i got to 700bar and still no pop 😯
I could pump higher but as the gauge only reads to 700 there’s no point. I’ll get a new gauge soon.
I’ll put some pics up and a link to you tube of the test.
I’ll test another and measure every thing at 350bar.
Later, Sean.
Possible to get Ti G9 (3Al-2.5V) 1.5 OD X 0.087 wall 24″ >>$96
It is better than Ti G2
Notes:
CWSR stands for Cold Worked and Stress Relieved 105 ksi min yield strength
Hey Fudd.
I did a little video of the tests on the AirArms replacment.
If i remember right, it actually failed at 9700psi dude.I test every tube to 350bar at home. I have a 100’000psi hydro test rig.( But hoses are only 700bar operating pressure)
Just got 7mtr of 38mm from hongKong and it came to £600 with import duty.
It goes on the weight. We got lucky actually cos they had 7mtr of the G2 we needed. About 13kilo i think. But next order has to be a minimum of 50kilo 🙁
Ive tried to get the alli’ from UK but it came in at £113. Per foot 😯
It worked out cheaper to buy solid bar and have it gun drilled from the US of the A. But still prohibitivley costley.
So for us in the UK its cheaper to buy Ti’ from H’Kng.
Later dude.

Here’s a rough explanation of how to calculate max working pressure.
Assuming you can get your hands on 7075-T6 aluminum. What thickness tube is suitable for an airtube and what bar or PSI can this thickness safely accommodate? 0.125″ wall thickness adequate?
blobnob – if I recalled, you made a Ti tube for a member here that was 3mm thickness. What grade Ti was used and any idea of operating vs max testing pressure? How much does a 24″ piece of Ti tubing cost? I assume it’s much more expensive than 7075-T6 aluminum?
BN, You are going to show some of them here aren’t you!!!oh Yeah! 😀
Knife
But still well within spec’.
Nice work,
But weaker Titanium Grade 2 of Aluminum 2024 because Yield 40ksi and 2024-T3 50Ksi ❗
