manufacture air cylinder
Hello,,
Can I use aluminum 6061-T6 in the manufacture of air cylinder 1.5 OD X 0.125 wall for 200 BAR ?

Have you considerd using titanium ?
Ive searched high n low for the correct grades of alluminium. Dont know if its just this country but i cant buy small enough amounts to make it viable.
So started using titanium G2.

I suppose,wherever you can find 6061 or 2024… but its not so easy to find it online.
Try to drop a mail or a phone call to a commercial shop at your local area.They may supply you by request.
You see the problem is to find a tube.Otherwise round bars or sheets are available everywhere .
Just add the yield strength of the material of your preference.(you can find yield strengths on the onlinemetal.com metal guide )
Personally for that kind of pressure (200bar)i would prefer 7075-T6 aluminum for a strong,lightweight air tube.
My custom air tube can keep 350+bar as the maximun of my daily needs EASILY.. if i would like too,but this is something i don’t use to do.
it was made from SAE 4130 steel (strong as hell) which is the best material if you are interesting for a perfect blueing ,just like this one Air arms use for their PCP’S.
Yes, 7075 is very strong and can reach more than 350 bar.
But where can I get 7075?

7068 developed in the mid 1990’s by Kaiser Aluminum, and exclusively stocked and supplied in Europe by Advanced Metals International.
Tubes not stocked available to order on relatively short production lead-time.
However random lengths supplied or cut to customer requirements
Therefore if you find 7068,you have to pay 5-6 times higher the cost of 6061….It doesn’t worth for a bloody air cylinder.
7068 aluminum is a good bit stronger than either 7075 ot 2024.
