Q:

Matador reg adjustement

A quick,dumb question: When you turn the reg adj. screw clockwise you decrease the pressure output,right? And the opposite (counter clockwise,dóh) increases it ??
Also – anyone with a rough estimate how much a half a turn increases/decreases the pressure ?? Thanks in advance! 😀

From my understanding, and i’m certainly no expert on EdGuns, this looks like you are very close to having the reg and the HST set properly. If you would have kept on shooting it would have been easier to determine if everything is working properly.

Slightly less HST may make it so when you hit 60 shots there is no real change in velocity until you come off the reg and the velocity drops steadily.

I believe for a 22 standard you should get at least 70 shots before things change.

For setting the reg and HST you shoot all the way through the string to know what the reg is doing, since the end of the string holds the answers.

Once your velocity drops about 200fps below the target velocity (the velocity for the first 60 or so shots) then you are off the reg. If the reg is set too high the velocity at the end of the string will climb, if it is set too low the fps will drop quickly at the end of what would be a normal string. When set properly the velocity should taper off slowly at the end of the string until you come off the reg.

100bar is about 1500psi, I would keep shooting until I hit 1100-1000 psi (about 70bar) or when the fps are 200 under the earlier numbers.

Most people graph the results so they can look at the slope of the curve at the end of the string. 😉

Is it a standard or long, which pellet are you using?

Did that and got 44%. Doesn´t say much to me except according to that tool i should get like 90 shots still (to average a whopping 160 shots per fill ) to get full air efficiency at 100% 😯 Can´t be done but obviously there´s some extra shots on tap.
This means that i can start by going in on the reg by approx …. turns ?

Use chairgun pro to calculate air efficiency… “Toolbox” –> “PCP Efficiency”.

Will do! BTW – i shot a serie of 65 shots (plinking) and the start pressure was 200 bar and the end pressure 100 bar. Very little/no deviation in POI except the last 10 or so shots were forming a string upwards so this makes me believe the speed increased a little before going down again.
I´ll do a 70 shot string tomorrow. I have this little Combro chrony and it´s not connected to any computer so i´ll just chrony the first 10 shots, shots 20-30 and shots 60-70. Is that enough chronographing to get an idea where to go or do i need to chrony every shot ??

Next time you adjust the regulator I recommmend to make some indicator marks with a fine marker as when you really want to tweek it very small movements are needed.

Shoot a full string of 70 pellets starting with a 200 bar fill and tell us what the pressure gauge says at the end of 70 pellets.

Post the speed of the 70 shots here and we can tell you more.

Thanks!This is a truly great place for advice. I bought my second Eddie,a slightly used second hand R3 from UK and the gun was set at low,low,low to clear the UK max power law. Well i put it back to those factory settings and so also the reg which was turned down to around 100 bar. I´m now at the factory setting at around 130 bar so if you could give me some kind of a ballpark figure to start with that would be awesome. I mean should i go downwards half a turn, 3/4 turn or 18 turns to start with. Just so i can get some kinda starting point. I think i can easily get 1000+ fps as it´s now so it´s no use to try to max it out with the HST screw as it´s set now. 😯

Right now it´s shooting at 270+ mps (885-890 fps) at 130 bar with the HST setting i have on now but i quess i´m waisting loads of air due the high reg setting – it shoots great though. Is there any use to fibble with the reg yet since it has only had around 2000 pellets thru it and almost all of them with a reg set at 100 bar ? I mean maybe i should let it break in at 130 bar and give it some 1000 shots still or should i just dive in right away ??

Yes, clockwise is down and counter clockwise is up.

Unfortunately once you adjust the regulator you need to adjust the hammer spring tension to find the hammer spring tension which is best for that particular regulator setting.

The strategy is to turn the regulator down and turn the HST screw out 2 full turns. Shoot five shots then turn the HST screw in 1/4 turn and repeat this until you find the HST setting that gives the highest speed for that regulator setting.

Keep doing this until you find a regulator setting where the maximum speed reached when turning up the HST screw is 890 fsp.
