My Edgun lost some velocity
Actually a lot. Almost 300 fps according to my chrony. I was worried because it sounded anemic and ran her through the chrony. It’s shooting at 600 fps with .25 cal jsbs. It was shooting at a steady 900 fps before. I checked the breech probe seals by placing a piece of tissue over the loading port and it did not indicate any blow by. I’m at a loss. I open to suggestions.

Wow!! it has been awhile since I last posted.
I have an update on my gun.
With the assistance of OG, my gun is finally fixed. My r3 ended up needing a new regulator/valve assembly. The one that came with the gun was f’ed up. It didn’t even fit the reservoir tube. We deduced that the regulator housing was to large. That is why it was a bitch to remove and replace it. The replacement regulator/valve assembly slid in with minimal resistance. Just like it is suppose to.
I understand that there are issues with all guns and I have owned some that needed to be worked on in one way or another to get them to shoot right. However, my R3 had issues that were beyond my ability to fix. I thank OG for all his help and if it wasn’t for him, I would have given up on the R3.
Now, I have a nice gun that is accurate and shooting well. Starting from 205 bar and stopping at 95 bar, I get 70 shots with an extreme spread of 19 fps. If I only shoot 65 shots, the spread is only 10 fps. Ave velocity is 890 fps for the string. I’m happy with the results to say the least. I was able to shoot some last week and the difference is like day and night. Before, I would wonder why my poi would shift at very close distances. It was because the velocity was varying by 300 fps during a shooting session. It’s a laser now and hits like a sledge hammer. I have also noticed that it is not as quiet as I once thought. Again, because of the crazy velocity variation. Not a big deal though.
If you happen to have an Edgun with a difficult to remove reg, it may have the same problem mine had, but I doubt that any will have the same issues as mine. Somehow, I all way seem to end up with the lemon :(. I glad this one got sorted out. I really like the design and how well it shoots.

I had to put my project on “ice” for now. On my last attempt, I was not able to get the gun to the velocity that I wanted and that is where I stopped. I came into it with enthusiasm but not until I put the time out to work on it did I discover that I needed to dedicate more time than I have right now. I know you guys are eager to find out how it turns out, but I need to attend to some family issues for now.
Sorry for cutting this short. I’ll try to get to it as soon as possible. I can be a bit obsessive and I know that. That is why I have to pull the plug or else I would spend my days in the garage and that would not be good.

I was gossiping with a friend about your topic and told my friend that I could easily fix your gun if you were closer to my location. Immediately after that you posted that you fixed the spread and just need to increase the velocity, so I said : “He no longer needs us, he is starting to learn the Matador”.
Trial and error, and don’t be afraid to take it apart and fiddle. That’s a very important lesson for the new owners of a Matador. In the end you will have the gun of your dreams, shooting good strings and you gain the experience to even service it out in the field if necessary.
Keep the posts going. There are many of us watching this topic and the outcome.

I shot down the gun to 120 and 100 bar so expelling the air would not be as difficult. I check velocity at each interval.
120 bar — 781 fps
100 bar — 788 fps
that tell me the reg is doing its job. Good thing.
Gonna adjust the reg now and will record some strings.
Once I get the velocity where I want it, I will shoot and record a complete string from 200 bar to 100 bar.

To add to the post above:
I think the HST and reg are working in unison. However, I’m looking for more velocity.
This is a lot of work and now I understand why tuners charge so much for their work.

I put everything together and ran a short string after adjusting the HST up and then down. Funny thing is that when I turned the HST in (clockwise) the velocity decrease. I have the reg screw 1/2 turn clockwise. I turned the screw out until the velocity settled down at the following string:

The consistency is there but the velocity is low.
My next move is to increase the reg pressure. From my original starting point, I will move the reg screw to the 1/3 turn. Maybe that will get my velocity up in the mid 800 fps range.
What do you guys think?
One other thing, reg/valve body is difficult to insert for the last 1/2 inch. It feels like it bottoms out and then I need to really force it in. I cleaned out the tube and used silicone on all the orings. I was not expecting that. However, I did get it in.

I too find it a bit unsettling. I was expecting a gun that was shooting as advertised and thought I had it until I ran some shots over the chrony.
I’m hoping I can sort this out. It not too bad so far.

The end plug was easy to remove.
The valve/reg body was a bit stubborn. The bolts holding the unit onto the tube seemed like they were torqued by a gorilla. I got them off without harm. There was tons of silicone grease caked on the reg end. The reg locking screw was loose but there was no way to tell if the reg screw became loose. Without a reference mark, can tell anything. I checked the delrin valve, pin and spring and they looked new. No broken parts 🙂
I gonna take a break and adjust the reg next and replace it.
Will post an update tonight with numbers.

I let it rest for about the time it took me to type my previous post and when I knocked the valve open, POP!!
I was able to get the all the air out after that.
Even though the guage read 0 bars, there was still air coming out. After it stopped hissing I removed the end plug.

I’m having a hard time getting the last few bars of air from the reservoir. It seems to burp some air and then when I press on the valve pin nothing comes out. I then wait a few minutes and press the valve pin. It burps some more air. It seems like the air in the reservoir is filling the reg slowly and then there is enough in there to release air. I have 20 bars left in the tank.
Has anyone else experienced this?
On Ted edgunusa video, it looks like all the air escape after a few minutes of pressing the valve. On mine, it is not going as fast. The air is coming out, but very slowly.
I want to make sure all the air is gone, so I’m taking my time even though I think it should go alot faster according to Ted’s video. Luckily, I have Friday Night free and will probably spend the night working on my edgun.
I also noticed that it takes considerable force to knock the vavle open. I’m thinking my reg is set super high and valve is working to overcome a large force.
