Q:

MY new Corsair stock……part II.

Seems Jim and i have the same ideas.

I picked up my Richard’s Micro fit stock Wednesday. The Tiger Wood stock that i had on the Corsair originally actually belongs to my Jack Haley 32 and the bedding is 1-1/8″ (JH32 O.D. air tube) and was only temporary for the Corsair. I decided to go with a Black/Grey color scheme as i wanted the color of the gun to be pretty much “DARK”. While the Tiger Wood color is beautiful, it does stand out like a sore thumb while hunting.

The stock weighs in at 2 lbs 14 ounces and has a really nice SLIM feel to it vs the Tiger Wood stock. The Tiger Wood is closer to 4+ lbs. The New stock is also about 2.5″ shorter than the Tiger Wood. But i can deal with that. Here are some pics.

The stock after purchase:

The stock after final sanding (you might not be able to see the difference):

The Morgan Adjustable butt pad:

The stock with 3 coats of sealer and 1 coat of finisher (2 coats of finisher total):

A Swivel stud installed:

The JH457 and the Corsair 308 in the wild:

2 other RANDOM pics:

Over all, i’m very happy with the stock and its feel on the Corsair. The gun shoots very well and has a great feel. The only things left to do is to file down a little NOTCH for the bolt handles last travel downward of about 1/16″ and to file a little notch for the safety.

Stay Tuned

Riverside, Tofazfou, Dan H Wok and anybody I have missed,

I have never owned a big bore airgun other than my 25 Condor.

I did not get into air guns until a year and a half ago, if you don’t count 2 years as a child moving thru bb guns and 22 Crosmans to a single shot 22 earning my parents trust along the way.

But I love to read and as many of you have noticed, I love to write, the internet provides both for me, but more importantly I love guns.

I have read about and read the writings of DAQ and read about the Jack Haley’s and the good bad and ugly about them. I don’t know shit about the QB’s other than they just don’t have the power I want, and neither did the Corsair.

Having said that, I have not found anybody more open to his past, and his present work than Dan Mcvey. I have not talked to him on the phone, but thru emails he has always been frank and I feel truthful.

I have no doubt he is on the cutting edge of execution of ideas and metal work of those who have come before him, and after reading the Adventures in Air guns blog for a month or so, I feel he is one heck of a nice guy, not from what he writes on that blog, but in his absence from it.

Fuck talk about internet tension and bad feelings, compared to this forum that many feel is rough, that blog is somewhere between a disfunctional family and a slaughterhouse.

I spend a lot of money on these guns, but I have always spent a lot of money on any discipine of firearms I am obsessed with, I just love guns and that love over the years has been bitter sweet, they have given me the worst and the best experiences in my life.

Howerer, I hate having something that does not work or was made shabbily, I hate worse when it is made bad and the megalomaniac maker makes it out to be the finest thing ever made. Or I read something about their inconsistancies in quality and wonder if my rifle shares those traits.

I had an Audi Allroad like that.

Perhaps Mcvey has taken advantage of those before him, in that he has taken the best of development and refined it with his ideas and the benefits of cnc equipment. Or maybe he is just a very fine craftsman and designer, either way, he has given me the confidence I needed to buy my first big bore, where others could not.

And next week, I will plunk down the money to get a Ranger because mine is supposed to be ready.

And that payment to Dan is just part of the expense.

Yeah, this has been expensive, tanks, fill tubes, a Shoebox, Booster, a quality scope, and I have yet to decide on a mold and purchase all the gear to cast again, not to mention a regulator for field fills.

But it is what I and all of us here do it is the fun of it.

Regards,

Roachcreek

i Have talked to Dan quite a bit on the phone , he is a good guy , and he has gone over every aspect of the xp ranger with me . he has gone over all the Materials he has used , and all the testing he did to come up with this gun -many airvalves -port sizes .

i think you are going to like this gun , i cut the inlet into my tigerwood laminate stock today to match the airtube , used a diegrinder and sand paper around a peice of tubing it worked great as planned; as soon as i get the action i will cut the trigger part in ,and finish the stock off ,
then it’s pull the trigger time , i have the 36inch barrel coming so we should see some impressive fpe/fps out of this long barrel set up .

i found a company to get bullets cheap from for target shooting , mid states cast bullets 1000 bullets for under $60 shipped to your front door here is the link –

i think you are really going to like this gun Roachcreek

RS,

If I think you are acting like a Troll then it is pretty bad. Saying I am being “Sensitive” is part of acting like a dick I mentioned before. I run this place and if I say take it down a notch then just do it. I get a lot of complaints about you. So just tone it down a bit without all the dramatics.

WOK:
Guess it takes one to know one eh’

seriously…you are whining at me in this thread for doing the same thing you were doing in that other thread

I refuse to believe you are this sensitive 😆 😆 😆

Like I said…I think its all good so long as the owner of the gun is happy with it
that goes equally for Tof and his Corsair or RJ and his Haley
take that as coming from one trolling dick to another 🙄

anyways I am through with these Hi Five club threads

Roachcreek,

That XP Dan makes looks like a fine gun. I know quality when I see it. I am glad it is you who is getting one and will give us a report and feed back.

It will be good if we can kill unfounded rumors or confirm them.

We are known as a forum where information can flow freely and if we can help Dan be successful that would great. But we can not allow bullshit made up trash talk that is nonsense go unanswered. So you be sure to give us a scoop on that trigger when you get it.

Then we can put that to rest.

RS,

Whats up with that? Your acting like a dick these days and need to be told.

Telling Tofazfou to take it easy is troll like behavior. He writes a good post and you try to make him look like he was loosing his cool which is ridiculous.

Discussing is why we are all here but you take your high horse and try to berate and discredit people and their opinions all the time. It is not a competition relax.

Reel it in big boy and take it down a notch.

BTW a 500 word 5 paragraph response is not needed 🙄 🙄

Xp doesn’t sell the guns. They only build the actions for Adventures in Airguns.
As far as other QB conversions, I don’t know of any that advertise to shoot over 200 fpe. That 2000 psi shot with a 68 grain is over 120 fpe.

The factory stocks are youth size, but since the rifle only weighs about 6-1/2 lbs, it’s real easy to shoot. I don’t know what kind of Chinese wood it’s made from, but it’s heavy and hard like oak.

Randy has so many he’s joked about using them for furniture legs.

you missed the stock assembly
looks like he retained more of the QB than I expected
for example salvaging the bolt I guess works but most other Big Bore QB conversions use a custom bolt…be happy to posts pix for you
same with salvaging rear tubes as the bulk of conversions went to a one piece PCP tube
anyways it’s still a modded QB, that’s not a slam on the parentage of the guns…I monkey with them a rather great deal myself

I don’t doubt the power…
most any .308 QB or even Discovery conversion can do the same thing with a little work on the respective stock valves

nothing unique but it’s still a decent value for the money

Riverside, how many articles are there about modding a QB trigger assembly? Yes, I know there is no $100 fancy trigger setup. A 2-step trigger assembly costs about $30. But, there are guys have spent a lot of time remaking the trigger parts out of better materials like stainless steel and such, polishing and fitting those parts till they slide just right. Changing springs, and everything else. That’s what I’m referring to a fancy trigger setup. If somebody has hours in modding his QB trigger and wants to use it on a Corsair, he can.

As for being a modded QB, here’s the complete list of parts I got from Dan that he uses from a QB78: (I copied it from his email)

trigger assembly (zero mods),
6″ of the lower tube (reamed and trued straight inside- holes opened for transfer port, lengthened cocking pin slot),
upper breech (reamed straight on muzzle end, lengthened bolt handle slot, lengthened cocking pin slot, hole opened for transfer port),
bolt (shortened, end turned down and fitted with 4130 steel end used in the barrel),
spring guide (shortened)
bolt handle (unmodified),
bolt handle screw,
1 hammer pin,
long rear screw & washer,
barrel band (new s.s. screw & nut),
barrel set screw (shortened)

That’s it. Everything else is either made by xp or replaced with a better grade of material. I don’t know what percentage of a Corsair that is, but I know it won’t shoot anything.

They replaced the crappy front screw that holds the trigger assembly with a steel stud. That’s not a fastener you can buy, they machined it. It’s that kind of attention to detail that shows me, they care about making a quality product.

The last thing they do before shipping a Corsair is fill it to 2000 psi and shoot a 68 grain bullet through the chrony. Dan said every rifle shoots within 10 fps of 900 fps. They’ve made over 50 of them so far. Believe it or don’t but I have no reason to doubt him.

😆 😆 😆
easy Tof easy 😆 😆 😆

Since all this started going on weeks back now I have been candid that without ever touching an XP, that it seemed of superior quality to his Domestic peers
maybe ranking up close to the Beaumont which is Quite a bit more money.

The Corsair?
It’s a remanufactured QB

Accuracy really has never been a question, DM, JH and a few others are all using the same barrel stock from TJs/TOW and as I have noted there are online rumors regarding JH permenently fixing his barrels to the QB breech as well

like most folks into Air Force guns, I expect to be able to disassemble my guns if need be and that includes the use of different barrels and so forth as such you are going to find some people less than enthusiastic over DM’s unitized approach

never claimed the Corsair wasn’t safe…standard QB breech and Trigger group…big bore QBs have been around for Years
Rich in MI,
Bontrager,
JH
and yes others were building big bore QBs long before McVey appeared in the picture so I would say the safety of these conversions is quite well established by now
I mean really has ANYONE heard of a big bore QB pcp “blowing up”?

Bottomline is if you are happy with your purchase I am perfetly ok with that. You have a damn nice bit of wood to drop that action in now and it looks Great

Now if we could only find one of those “fancy” trigger groups Plasticman claims is out there! 🙄

DAM ! more crap from the GUN FERRY ! his post look like the RANTINGS of a fickle/BIPOLAR brained OLD WOMAN !

LOL…RS…..when i typed that post…..i was not excited at all. I remember when the old TAG guys used to tell me to stop typing all caps cause it represents anger. But i got in a bad habit of doing it to “ACCENT” my point. So please, excuse my capital letters.

The only post i was angry on as of late was the whole Jack Haley thread. But i said my piece about it and provided pictures as proof. Beyond that….i’m done with that post.

Now, as for the Corsair or XP or any other gun Dan makes, people should contact him directly about why he does what he does. I did and he answered all my questions.

I even told him that i did not like the PLASTIC barrel band cause mine has moved on me a few times while sighting in, and when i went hunting, i would completely miss the target and i had to re sight the gun in. I told him that i had to tighten the shit outta it to keep it from moving. He said that, that is the reason why he installed a Stainless Steel screw in it instead of the factory crappy one that comes with it from Archer Airguns. Dan also does not like the plastic barrel band. He also informed me that that barrel band is simply what Randy Mitchell orders and what he installs on the gun cause that is what was ordered for it. He also told me that if i wanted a metal barrel band, Randy would send me one for free. I declined though as my buddy SWIFT is making me a custom barrel band outta aircraft grade aluminum. Randy orders parts and Dan assembles them along with his custom parts. That is why some of the parts are custom and some are standard QB action parts like the trigger assembly and barrel band and bolt handle.

Dan also told me that the Corsair is good but the XP is way better. And from just the pics that i’ve seen of both gun……he is 100% accurate in his statement. But the Corsair was built that way. It was meant to be and entry level gun BB gun. I personally think its more than “entry level”.

Really WOK?
is this that Pot calling the Kettle Black again?
seems you have been guilty of the same, after all you admit you have zero personal experience with big bores…just not your thing yet you were the first to hijack RJs thread weren’t you 🙄

at least give me credit for being candid about my personal experience with a gun or lack there of
Had to drag it kicking and screaming out of you & a couple others in that last thread.
So you can do a lot of shit talking about guns you do not have experience with but no one else should?

Indeed WOK, what really is UP With That?

This all seems a bit sophomoric

it’s all good, Corsair’s are a fine value I was only bringing up the issues other owners have posted about
same thing you do here and on other forums with other guns Right? 😆 😆 😆

Riverside you are a funny guy. The kind of guy who wipes shit on somebodies nose and then tells them to calm down when they protest.

You do a lot of shit talking about guns you do not have experience with.

Whats up with that?
