MY new Corsair stock……part II.
Seems Jim and i have the same ideas.
I picked up my Richard’s Micro fit stock Wednesday. The Tiger Wood stock that i had on the Corsair originally actually belongs to my Jack Haley 32 and the bedding is 1-1/8″ (JH32 O.D. air tube) and was only temporary for the Corsair. I decided to go with a Black/Grey color scheme as i wanted the color of the gun to be pretty much “DARK”. While the Tiger Wood color is beautiful, it does stand out like a sore thumb while hunting.
The stock weighs in at 2 lbs 14 ounces and has a really nice SLIM feel to it vs the Tiger Wood stock. The Tiger Wood is closer to 4+ lbs. The New stock is also about 2.5″ shorter than the Tiger Wood. But i can deal with that. Here are some pics.

Over all, i’m very happy with the stock and its feel on the Corsair. The gun shoots very well and has a great feel. The only things left to do is to file down a little NOTCH for the bolt handles last travel downward of about 1/16″ and to file a little notch for the safety.

probably would be better off with a custom XP once you calculate in the expense of a different stock and the limited volume of the QB tube diameter

I just can’t stand the chunkyness of the Tac Driver line which is why I went to great lengths to pare mine down as much as possible

The Corsair isn’t special in so far as FPE in a .308 but it’s fine for a “production” piece
one can easily exceed the FPE of the Corsair with a .308 barrel and 9mm Blod Knob Big Bore valve on any Air Force frame…you will need a custom breech as well as heavy Hammer & spring. My 9mm barrel was pushing 300 FPE without much tinkering
Downside is you won’t get a Big Bore AF rifle over the counter, will be chasing down the parts/having them made then proper assembly.
QB’s convert reasonably easy however you will need at the least, a barrel, bolt, pressure tube & modded valve
what I do not like about the Corsair, besides the valve itself is that McVey has designed these things to be hard for the end user to service
If you want a real nice one you might try begging Rich in MI as he has built a fair number of them and to a much better standard than McVeys conversion.
Not sure if he’s still taking orders, particularly after SteveCT banned him off the Yellow but Rich’s work Is about as fine as you will find and will yield a rifle that you as an owner can actually service without fighting glued together components
still, if you want a .308, there are simply not a great deal of turn key options
if i went cheaper i would go corsair , if i go expensive i will have Dan set me up with a custom 308 cal 36inch barrel ranger ! we have talked about it .

My tigerwood Richards laminate stock for the 45 caliber xp ranger was shipped today ! yeee!!!ha!!!!! finally ! had to go through some hair pulling to get them straight on this one ,as you know ,

T the tigerwood that you have is what made me order the one up for the ranger .
i am thinking about getting the corsair , it looks to be the hotest 308 on the market fps/fpe .

While the Corsair is not the FPE/FPS KING (as RS put it) its still a fun little gun for the money and really does what anyone would need a 308 to do. It is an entry level 308 that plenty accurate and powerful.
I have been talking to dan mcvey and he has shed some light on the internals of the gun. I really like Dan, he has been flooding my emails with pics of some of his guns internals and stuff that he is working on.
