Q:

My noisy shop

Tried my hand at making a vid. I hear the mill, aircompressor and haven’t a clue what the other noise is.

Hahahaha….Now your learning.

With the absence of Bodhisdad it seems there has been a vacuum left and several forum members are racing to fill it 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛

Why don’t you slow down a tad and give some of us others a chance. 😛

My place doesn’t offer “slightly” larger sizes. Next step up would be 1.625″. And I don’t really want to have to cut .0625″ off.

Whats a matter could your old lathe not handle it? 😆

Weren’t you the one just suggesting big cuts 😆

How thick is the tube? You could always take a thou off of that ).

Its usually best to buy slightly oversized stock and turn/mill it to size.

I did not actually cut either of those pieces. That is some 1.5″ tube, and some 1.5″ rod, which apparently is not quite 1.5″. Does .001″ really matter? The answer is yes but I am working my way up to that.

Its not how much you can cut it is knowing when to stop cutting.
