Q:

My R3 25 Long

I tracked the UPS driver down and got my R3 25 cal long at 10:00 AM today!

The fit and finish is up to the usual Edgun standards but, I think Ed was in a hurry to get the R3 25 longs out the door. He forgot to paint mine! The walnut stock looks OK, I wanted black! I will get the sandpaper and paint out when I have the time.

The gun is at least a quiet as my R2.5 25 cal long. Both of them sound louder when looking thru the scope than when held away from the ear. When my cheek is on the breech block, I hear the hammer more than the air discharge. I might not even bother with putting a de pinger in the air tube.

As delivered, my R3 shoots the JSBs at 950 fps. I will set it down to 890 and try it first. I will do some testing at other speeds but, I will be very suprised if the 25.4 grain JSBs shoot more accurately at any other speed than at 880-910 fps.

Thanks Kazzz.

Big winds forecasted for the next week. Looks like I will be doing some night shooting when the winds have died down. It will be rough on this oldgoat trying to shoot in 40 degree weather.

More observations:

The trigger took a lot of effort to fire the gun. The lot of effort was comparing it to the R2.5 that I have been playing with for a year or so. I ended up turning the front trigger adjusting screw all of the way in. It is better now but, it still needs more work.

Way back when we were tuning our R2.5 25s, Mamcrackin sent me a front screw that he had come up with that I have been using on my R2.5. It allows just a little creep and then the trigger comes up against a little pressure. Just a touch more and the gun fires. It is a huge improvement and I didn’t realize how huge it was till I shot the R3! It is simple to make and I have to make one for the R3.

The other thing that I noticed was, when I was pushing the bolt/cocking handle in, there was a point that required extra force to get the handle to push forward and close. It is not a lot of extra force, just something to adjust. My R2.5 22 cal never had that, my R2.5 25 cal did. I ended up doing a mild reshaping and polishing of the bolt internals on the 25. I haven’t had the R3 apart, yet, but, if the internals are the same, I will polish that part also.

Neither of these items are to be taken as me dumping on the R3! Just a couple of things to play with. I like to play!

Nice one OG!
Hopefully you’ll do a test of the R3 con R2.5..!?

But first, before all the testing: ENJOY!!!!

Hey Deutsch, it’s not nearly $2000, it is $2000! $1950 delivered. Better order one now before the prices go up. Supplies are limited! πŸ˜†

I want one.. too bad its nearly 2k. Crazy.

Nice rifle Tedd, finally you get it! I think you should do some groups at 930 just like it is Out of the box. Maybe Ed set it at that speed for a reason, don’t you think?.
W’ll be waiting for the groups and comments.
Congrats!

Congrats OG,Really nice πŸ˜€ What was the total wait time?I really like
that walnut stock(wish mine was)Is the shroud two piece?
Good luck with it.

quote oldgoat:

….WTF, I ordered a 6.35 mm 25 caliber and I got a 4.5 mm .177 caliber? To top it off, the 4.5 mm bore must be very very loose, I can get a 6.35 mm JSB 25.4 grain pellet in it!

Sounds like the new dual purpose export model…… πŸ˜‰

It says Cal. 4.5 mm Ser. No. 2749. 😯

Gotta head out to work, It is TOO damn windy to go to the range today, NWS has a wind advisory for the next 2 days, gusts to 40 mph. It has to be blowing at least that hard right now! πŸ˜₯

My dear friend OldGoat,

I have been a bit worried today, but finally……..
