My review on my new Donnys shroud .22cal cricket bullpup
Just recieved my Donnys ldc (pvc) and after having (4)people not including myself listen for a before/after comparison I came to the conclusion that it is definately quieter with Donnys on it.It is not as quiet as my 40ft/lb AZ Rapid with 24″ barrel/shroud or my AZ Rapid 30ft/lb with 19″ barrel/shroud or my AZ Rapid carbine 30ft/lb with 17″ barrel/shroud but these are 250 dollar shrouds compared to a 65 dollar shroud.It installs very easy,light weight,adds about 6″,but at 33″ length , who cares?It looks nice and didn`t change my poi at all.Is it worth 65 bucks?,yes it is,anything that takes the edge off that pop,easy to slide on/off ,and looks good is a winner in my book.Thanks Donny,greatly appreciated.

Sweet mike. I shot so many I was feeling guilty……….NOT! The shooting was as fast as I could load mags and it was non stop…

90 sparrows in one day, That tops me, I average about 30 on a good day out my kitchen window , With Donny’s shroud and shooting the 22 Cricket around 994 FPS its the sound of the pellet leaving the sparrows and hitting the back stop, (Tile blocks) That scares the other birds away,, every once in a while I will get a dumb one that stands around and then I get two..
I sure have noticed a lot more good (song) birds coming around now that I knocked out a few thousand sparrows with the Marauder and Cricket,,

I just got back from the cattle barn and the farmer is real happy with noise……..what noise??? Shot over 90 sparrows what a great day for shooting..

Make sure your optic isn’t the problem, also make sure the factory shroud isn’t clipping.
Donny’s shroud is awesome – initially it will move. I have a .25 and the first few shots did move it up a bit, I place my finger on it to check movement after the first install. After a few shots it will settle down and not move – I guess the blue tape is starting to catch it .
Firstly zero in your Cricket for your yardage just to make sure your shots are on target without it – then put the LDC back on. I started with one layer of blue tape – but per the creator’s suggestion added another layer at the front, middle and back. I thought it would be too thick but it wasn’t. You can kind of twist it a bit to get it to clear the tape layers and to seat.
I’ve put probably 800 shots with it on and but after the initial bite, maybe 5 or 10 shots it does not move – I still put my finger on it just to be sure. At 90 yards I can hit the bull and any other number on a Shoot N C target at will – loads of fun and the neighbors have no clue. The LDC keeps the report way way down low but the pellet hitting causes all the noise. Fun as hell. I’ve seen quite a few of them looking to find out where that noise is coming from. LOL 😈

Just got my Cricket back today so figure I do a bunch of things at once, put on Donny’s LCD and damn it’s quiet, but it kept moving forward and the POI kept moving around. So I took it off and just tried to Zero the scope at 23 yard and couldn’t get better than 3/4 inch group using a gun rest, so as you can imagine I’m not very happy right about now. So tomorrow I will start a new, clean the barrel get a 4o shot string to check the FPS, and re-zero it using just the factory barrel for starter. Then maybe try moving the tape down a little more for Donny’s shroud.
When i shoot my .25 with the RAI attached the hammer slap all but disappears. My “old” .25 WST was the same. I quess the increased space for that regulated air dampens the noise. It somehow “softens” the firing cycle as well. Good stuff !

The .25 has much more of a noticable ping than the .22, probably from the longer tube and higher power valve pulse. My .25 going 900 needs a depinger but my .22 going 880 with 16gr doesn’t really need one.
Here is a link to Ted’s method for a Edgun. It’s the same for all airguns with a standard tub…. I think…. Donny has a slight spin in Ted’s method, using two short pieces of vinel tube instead of one. I plan to do this as soon as I can get to the hardware store to buy some tubing.

When I first got the Cricket, I didn’t pay attention to the ping until one day I was arguing with Sir Ville and he said the Cricket indeed has a ping. I never paid attention so I said he was wrong. Well, who would know that Sir Ville was actually right about something 🙂 If you hunt with your gun and not sitting at a bench shooting hundreds of pellets, the ping is not an issue. But once in a while, I’ll paper punch and after a while that ping gets to me. It was on my mind after every shot so it got to the point where every shot was torture for me. It definitely was worth it to me because all I hear now is the puff of air that comes out and a quick hammer slap. I never really took the time to record or take notice if my shot count went down. I have a tank so when I need a refill, its quick and easy.
Ted Holdover placed one two inch piece of vinyl halfway down the air tube. I placed two one inch pieces at both ends of the air tube and find that it works for me. The tricky part with putting it in is that it has a lip about 1 inch inside. I took a needle nose plier and shoved the tube in as far as I can (lip) then holding onto the vinyl tightly I would twist it to the right so that it curls up a bit to clear the lip. Once inside, I use the pliers to flatten out the tube to its regular shape and it expands pretty tight in there.

I just tested my .22 cricket with Donny’s shroud and it is definitely quieter than the gun was with a 15″ NC shroud. Really nicely done, and great price! Just noticed that Donny de-pinged his cricket. I used the same vinal tube technique on a M Rod a few years back, but the M Rod really had a ping from the air tube that I don’t notice in the Cricket so much. The main noise is the hammer slap (I assume) which is different from an air tube ping. Donny- you think it is worth doing?
