My Vulcan

Well my Vulcan is finally coming home to me. As you’ve all watched Ernest videos, that was my Vulcan he was giving TLC to. How many other guns have gotten that much attention? The Master has done his magic now it’s time to come home to Papa….. It’s time to give the Cricket a rest.

When the winds and snow stop I’ll do a comparison. I can tell you it’s going to be hard to beat the Cricket.

Zonk: I believe it was you whom posted a 75 yard pellet grouping of your Cricket showing exactly how good it would shoot in the right hands. Don’t recall any post of your Vulcan. I know you just got it back all recently, maybe when the weather permits up you could indulge us/me, with a demonstration of marksmanship. I would look forward to the comparison. Since I haven’t seen many shot groups of the vulcan out past 50 yards, but alway hear how accurate the gun is. I know there are a lot of Vulcan owns here, and the only reason i called on you was because A you are so active here on the forum and be of the cricket post which cause an increase in Cricket sales. :fishinghole: :tag:

Hey, let us know about the “ping” that Ernest tried to fix by cutting out the spacer behind the regulator. Wondering if that helped.

The Vulcan has landed. Postman just left but to windy to shoot, maybe tomorrow. Shot string looks great, scopes back on and ready to rock and roll.

Ernest is THE Man to learn from! And many other talented people on here.

Ben, the VS is on the end of the AT on the photo that 3mm rod at the end is the valve stem rod and the 2nd photo is the VS, spring and spring retainer.

when the action is matted with the air tube—the hammer is in direct alignment to strike the VS rod. don’t have the Vulcan parts photo but the cricket is the same designed.

For some, a very small amount, but not all.

Eelect, finally some good news……

Makes sense. As air pressure decreases the percentage contribution (to valve closing characteristic) of the spring increases. At higher pressures the air pressure itself has a larger contribution to the closing than the relatively weaker spring. When we decrease the plenum pressure by turning down the regulator, we become a bit more dependent on the VS snapping the valve shut. I can see how a weaker VS would be more liable to close the valve less predictably. On the other hand too much VS tension and the hammer has to hit harder. It’s a balancing act between regulator pressure, plenum size, air port size, valve and hammer that can produce the same FPS with many combinations, but finding the most stable/efficient combination is the art.

Very interesting indeed….

What does the VS stand for?

Valve Stem/firing valve—–>the hammer opens to release air.

The valve spring tension control how fast the valve close—its like a door hydraulic to control how fast the door close.
