Narrowing down powerful .25 rifle choices.
I spoke to Steve at PAG today. I can get a Rapid with Steve’s shroud and a quick fill installed or a Daystate Air Wolf with his shroud for same money. He will adjust either from 50-60 ft./lbs. where I desire.
I also saw listed, but didn’t speak to him about, a Daystate Air Ranger 80fpe .25 tactical & moderator for the same money.
I’m thinking the 80 fpe would be too much but read something about them having a good barrel on them compared the the lower powered Air Rangers.
I’m looking to bust woodchucks and pigeons up to and beyond the 100 yard range,
I did ask Steve which he would prefer and he would only say his favorite rifle is the Rapid, not that it was better.
I think he also said the Rapid was lighter but from what I have read the opposite is true.
Thoughts and experience on these guns appreciated.

Being it is a week or so out before it comes in I could cancel the order.
How do you like your Air Ranger?
Most accounts have it being very effective, it only adds an inch of length, and it doesn’t run full width the whole length back.
I think it looks better than the shrouds that run super fat all the way back.
Also only 1″ in length while supposedly being very effective was a biggie for me.
I’ve a week or so to change my mind though.
I would not have made your choice.
I have a very loud 50 fpe Air Ranger, now with Steve’s shroud on it. and I can tell you a Huggett won’t hold a candle to it! All I can hear is hammer strike and pellet impact.
1.25″ OD is not that big, and if quiet is what you want, comparing Steve’s $200 shroud to a Hugget, and what it costs, is to me a no brainer. Of course, I have the experience of owning and trying Steve’s shroud.
Is the Hugget shroud prettier that Steve’s? Yes. Is Steve’s shroud quieter…IMHO, yes!
I’ll take performance over looks in a shroud any day of the week.
I even told Steve to make mine an inch or two longer, if needed, and he delivered a silent rifle back to me!
The Daystate .22, 50 fpe, is a bitch-slapping, hammer! It was too loud, even with the OEM shroud and the Airstream V on it.
The A.R. is not meant to be toted through the woods. It’s a big heavy accurate man-sized rifle with a very bad bite. The bi-pod is a definite payback for the investment.
One other thing…Ted’s Holdover has a video on the A.R. .25, worth watching. Accuracy is extremely good with mine, especially with the bi-pod.

Just out of curiosity, why didn’t you buy it from Steve at PAG?
Been agonizing over it long enough. Rolled the dice and put an order in with AOA for a Air Ranger in .25 with a Hugget shroud.
They are out of stock in .25 but due in soonish.
Also ordered a tin each of Predator’s,Benjamins, Baracudas, and Baracuda Hunters.
I have a few tins of JSB Kings on hand.
Now the wait begins.
I have neer had a Daystate, but I have heard nothing but good about them. The 80 FPE Rangers I have heard about accuracy problems.
I did get a Rapid a couple days ago, and for a Diable shooter it is pretty nice out to 150 yards.
Both are heavy and both are restricted by the design of their ammo.
None of them compare to my Haley 257 or a Dyotat 257, but they are hard to get.
To illustrate what I am saying.
A Kodiak at 55 FPE sighted in for 100 yards will bew 7.5 inches high at 55 yards.
A Haley or Dyotat 257 sighted in at 100 yards with a 73 grain bullet giving 206 FPE will be 3 inches high at 55 yards.
But for whats out there , the Daystate or the Rapid, will give you fine trouble free consistant accuracy for the task you wanting to apply them.
