need advice on new condor

smokeyjoe: Average condor gets about 30 to 40 good shots, the higher the power wheel is set, the less shots. For alot of low power shots, use the co2 adapter and a 12oz paintball tank for about 200 +/- shots. Of course co2 is temperature dependant. above 80* degrees lite .22 pellets get the 700ish fps.

I don’t use a 3500psi scuba, use scuba filled to 3200psi, but you will probably get about 6 to 8 fills? I checked the Airhog fill calculator and it said 17 fills, but that don’t seem right. I used the condor tank fill to 2800psi and refill at 1800 psi. Just don’t seem right?

Cascade filling involves 2 scuba tanks. Use tank 1 till condor tank fills less than 2800psi. Say to 2700psi. Then use tank 2 to top off the fill to 2800psi. Remove fill clamp/adapter, (bleed air from fill clamp/adapter before removing) with condor tank from tank 1 and attach to tank 2. Close bleed valve and top off condor tank to 2800psi. Tank 1 will get lower each fill and tank 2 will top it off to the fill pressure desired.

I bought my stuff new at Pyraymd Air about 3 months ago. Here are some suggestions from the perspective of someone who is also new.

1) AirForce rifles are modular and very upgradeable. You can start with one configuration and grow into another and switch back and forth between them as your funds allow. I have terrible mechanical skills and even I don’t have a problem changing out the barrels or any of the other basic accessory upgrades. There are also a lot of guys that work on the rifles and mod them who you can buy upgrades from.

2) Buying used seems to work well. You get stuff much cheaper and sometimes better than new (product already modified to work better).

3) If cost and getting a lot of shots out of one fill is a concern, consider CO2. You can easily refill the tank at a paintball store for little money and one tank is good for many hundreds of shots. Negative is that it needs to be relatively warm outside to work well. It is not as powerful as high pressured air, but if you are going to be shooting targets, you may not need the extra power.

4) A Carbon Fiber Tank is fantastic if you can afford it and if you can find a place to get it filled. I have an 88 cubic foot 4500 PSI tank and love it. Some paintball shops will fill them, some dive shops will fill them, and some folks that know people at the firedepartment can get them filled that way. I haven’t heard of anyone who said they love using a hand pump. Compressors that will work cost around 3,000 and need a lot of room, so they aren’t an option for most people. If you look at the classifieds on the yellow forum, you can often find these tanks for around 300 vs buying them new for 600.

5) Caliber doesn’t matter a lot. An Airforce rifle is accurate in any caliber if all the parts are working properly. You could go with either .177 or .22 and either would work great. In fact, you could get both barrels and enjoy both calibers.

6) If you get a Condor, you will want to get a shroud for the barrel because it is way too loud to shoot near neighbors. They vary in price, usually from around 150-250. You probably won’t need any sound suppression if you get a talonSS. It isn’t nearly as powerful as a Condor, but if you are shooting targets, you may not need that power. You can convert back and forth from a Condor to a TalonSS by switching the barrel and tank.

7) Accessories you will want when you are starting out: scope, case, pellets. You will want to buy good pellets vs. just buying pellets from walmart. Heavier pellets often work better. There is an accessory called a Wokbutt that makes the rifle much more comfortable to shoot that you will also want eventually.

8) In terms of “best scope”, that is like asking what is the best car. It depends on how much money you want to spend and what you want it to do. I would recommend you consider getting something less expensive when you are starting out and then upgrade as you learn more about it. If you are wanting to shoot out to 100 yards, you probably want a scope that has the capability of going up to 16x magnification or more. Walmart sells a Bushnell scope that is 4x to 16x magnification for around 70.00. I don’t have it, but I have heard it works fine. Then if you want to spend $600 or $3500.00 down the road on a top of the line scope, you can, or maybe the cheap scope will be good enough for what you want to do.

In terms of what I wish I would have done, I wish I would have carefully read these forums before buying my stuff. I bought all my stuff new and by the time I bought the tank and all the accessories, I spent around $2000. If I had bought everything used, I may have been able to get most of it for around $800.

I am having a great time with the hobby though and don’t regret getting into it a bit. It is a lot of fun and the equipment is very good quality for the price. There are air rifles that are higher quality (and also much higher price), but for the money and the ability to upgrade them, I think the airforce rifles are great if you want a PCP rifle.
