Q:

need air

been gone awhile, but Im back, Ive been shootin my talon on co2 for years, but ive been checking into a jds tank and reg, that got me checking on available air, the only local dive shop closed a couple years ago, the huge oilfield diving buisness is to scared to charge private air bottles because of tight Gov regulations, so I need some positive thoughts on pumping, and exercise is not a positive, shooting on co2 is a free for all, but I would need very strict shot count if i would pump, Im not old just a little lazy, what are some other air sources besides the fire dept. thanks guys

Any way you cut it, air that’s convenient will cost bucks or time! Years ago I bought a compressor from Airtex that feeds a large storage cylinder. I fill the 88 tanks from the cylinder to where the pressure equalizes and then top off direct from the compressor for a few minutes. Then I let the compressor fill the storage tank again while I do my set-up and such. The storage tank fills a bunch of paintball tanks for the kids too.

I have a compressor from Jim and he makes sure your happy. Mine had problems almost a year from when I bought it and he replaced the compressor. Like Steve said he will answer your questions and help you out.

Anyway you cut it, these compressors are expensive. You should be comfortable with whom you but it from. You also need to make the decision between gas drive and electric. I bought mine from Mr. Shelden because of his reputation in the HPA compressor community. He fully understands these machines and will answer your questions for quite sometime to come. That was very important to me. I am very happy with my Hammworthy compressor. Good luck with whichever compressor you decide to go with.

yes, I did

I got a quote from them and airetex 45, but I got a very good deal with airetex 45, priceless than what Jim gave it to me, so I choose to go with airetex 45 gas with 5.5 HP Honda eng

but I haven’t get a qoute from nuvair yet, I still in the price search

Get the shoebox and be patient with it. RC has described how he deals
with the slower fill times. The shoebox is a great addition to our sport.

If you really have the itch, this is the way to go. However, it’s going to
cost you…alot! But these compressors will get the job done quickly.

Here’s a link to a thread that I started here on the TAG:

I had been saving for an expensive gun. That deal fell through, so I
believe that Tom Kaye has done our sport a great service with his
shoebox compressor. He has been responsive to all of his customers
from what I can tell. I would absolutely recommend one, or two. That’s
right…there have been guys who gang two together for faster refill times.
There’s more than one way to drown a cat. (That’s just an expression
you cat lovers!)

I would not leave mine running when not home. I do clean guns straighten up my hunting stuff and watch tv while filling.
You will only fill your tanks from zero psi one time. After that I pretty much top off my tanks after every time I shoot. To me that is the best thing about the shoebox compressor. I never wait until I need air, I top off all the time and have plenty of air for a fast fill of all my guns!
I fill a pigmee tank to 4500 psi and use that for most of my shooting. I have a larger 3000 psi scuba tank that I have full all the time too. The advantages of the shoebox are great! I have a dive shop within 20 minutes that fills for $5 have not been there in 2 years. Oh yea hydro testing blablabla who needs it? 😆

so i would be looking at roughly 7 to 10 hours to fill my 88 cu ft from 2000 to 4500, i mostly fill to 1900- 2000 when shooting

so i would really need to be home, so i could check on it dont you think.

PB,

Mine was getting pretty slow lately so I rebuilt it again. That speeds things up, but it is still slow.

However I have enough capasity in the three 44cf tanks that I never run out of air, it is just I have to run the SHoebox a lot. And being as I cascade, when the first tank gets low I just refill and have the other two to fall back on.

I fill my rifles usually with the Pygmy, so I can still keep the Shoebox running on one of the 44’s while using the Pygmy tank for shooting.

It fills a 44 cf tank about 450 PSI per hour, so from a 3000 PSI level it takes a little over three and a half hours to get it back to 4500 PSI.

My problem here is I am a 20 mile drive from anything, if that can be considered a problem. 🙂

Roachcreek

Rc do you ever wish the shoebox was faster, i am impatient with such things, i can get 4500psi air with a 5 minute drive for 17 dollers, or 7 dollers with a 30 to 45 minute round trip.

but i like being self sufficient, i want a big compressor , but i really cant justify it. already have shop compressor. just thinking out loud, or typing out loud 😆

I have the Shoebox and three 44 cf hooked up to cascade and a Pygmy bottle.

But first, I have, as of today, 4 PCP’s a 660 FPE Ranger 45 which must be the biggest air hog in the world I think, two Conders, one that does 130 FPE another Condor 18″ 25 and as of today a Royale 400, so I use a lot of air.

I went thru 3 or 4 pumps in as many months, and then to a scuba bottle then two cascaded, but when I saw a Shoebox, I saw the light. I started buying expired scba bottes to fill myself and ordered a Shoebox, I have had it a year and never regretted it.

I exercise very hard, so the pumping does not bother me, what bothers me is how unreliable the pumps are. Not to mention having to send the damn things back to get fixed.

Life is about experiences, at 62 I do not wish the main experience in my remaining years to be waiting for broken, poorly made equipment to be fixed and returned.

So for me if I had a fire dept who would fill a scba bottle, that is the very first choice, but only until I could get another Shoebox.

If you have a Shoebox or another type of HPA compressor, the world of PCP’s is wide open.

Old Goat, you have more neat stuff laying around not being used than most of us use. Good for you.

Roachcreek

After my first fill with a scuba I returned my pump – its just too darn easy!!!!!

Your right about the fire house, I just havn’t checked with them yet, But A show of appreciation and kindness will go a long way
