Q:

Need expert help with Talon valve Please.

I have been getting some high low but mostly left-right hits. The top hat is set to about .065 and what I noticed is that the top hat is bottoming out, I can see a scuff ring under the top hat in the brass.
The valve has been modified by one of the top guys with an extra O ring and for more, consistant power.
I also have a brass hammer that is a little heavier than stock.
The valve stem has been opened to just under 3mm (everything else has been opened and polished also and it piched up about 75 FPS over stock with 21g kodiaks at 865 fps out of an 18″)
I tried to move the top hat out a little more but it goes through air too fast and then the velocity drops off too fast when its out too far after just a few shots, like 14.
Right now there is no preload on the valve spring. What is the best (proper) way to correct this. Preload on the current valve spring, no preload but use a heavier valve spring, or use a lighter hammer or go back to a thinner valve stem (slower fps) for slower, more consistant, higher number of shots and a lighter hammer (closer to stock)?
The power setting is on 4. It does not make much difference from 4-11.
Thanks for any help.

Dammit Wok. I was checking the site on my phone. I gotta turn of pic’s or something. People stare at you if you start licking your phone in public.

WalkonKing, We need that picture in “scratch & sniff”, I’m sure you have something in your vast archives.

I had a cool picture, but I didn’t get it posted fast enough
🙁

You turn out to be a white hat, wish I could buy you a beer, it seems we have a fair bit in common.

Thanks very much for posting. I’m sorry if I too seemed harsh (a potential pot and kettle thing for sure).

BTW, you do know Will wears funny hats, don’t you?

Hey Doug

I only wear a couple of hats and I was just wondering which one of these hats is the “funny Hat”… 😆 😆

You know what, you are right. I aplologize for breaking stones. This is a great place for information and I sure dont want to scare anyone away.

Don’t sweat it to much. If you did not know we have a built it member we pick on and tease. His name is “Mr. Lama” or “Naked Mole Rat”.

It is funny when we make him cry 😆

In all seriousness. It is all good. Everybody have a good time and hang out.

Here is something to lighten the mood 😀

No problem, some day I may hunt you down and hold you to that beer. BTW, I drink my beer from super big gulp (64 oz) size steins.

I was just breaking his stones, I thought that what new guys were for. I made the smile face at the end of my post :] Then after they have been properly abused, you take them under your wing and teach them all you know. But, only after they have been properly broken in.
BTW, does anyone have a left handed smoke shifter?

Oh, I get it. Although it seems to me with 14 posts (to his six) you’re a mite shy of an old hand yourself. You came here asking an important (to you) question. Were you hoping for someone to give you a ration of you-know-what rather than a straight answer? Golden Rule and all that stuff.

I’m all in favor of jerking on the lariat of an hombre, of course, as long as that’s the case and it’s understood. Maybe you and Will ‘go way back’? But there’s still the issue of the other newbies lurking on the forum (I assume you, like me, lurked a bit first), I don’t think we should be discouraging them with thoughts of ‘wow, I don’t want to ask a dumb question in the wrong way….’. The astounding volume of guys who come here for useful information says there are a lot of good folks peeking in.

It’s just my opinion, but I think hazing the new guys should be left to the Fraternities and other boy’s clubs as a general rule. Let’s play it like adults?

I think that’s a little harsh, you’ll get your answer (or not), no need to dump on ‘the new guy’ trying to understand…..he’s hoping for answers, same as you.

I hope you both get what you want, on his side I’m sure that’s not ‘chased away’.

I just spoke with Airforce, they said there should be about .080″ between the valve body and the top edge of the nut part of the valve spring retainer. They said this would put just under 20 lbs of pre load on the spring, just like Anthony266 said.
I wll keep you posted.

I agree. Sorry for breaking the protocol. And sorry for the Hijack my friend..

Lets keep this to my problems :]
