need help picking new gun open my eyes
ok never been a springer guy really im starting to really like some stuff ive been seeing. so ive decided i need a springer. well almost/ i want to go with a gas ram gun because ill be using it hunting mostly and some target shooting.
i want to go with .22 cal cause ive got pleny of .22 ammo already. I am really liking the looks of the the crosman nitro in .22
but i see the walther talon magnum with the air venturi ram in it also.
i dont know if there are other out there but
i want .22 cal will be using for small game from rat to fox
fox will be under 15 yards basically they like to travel the back of inlaws lawn
i will be using it alot for rabbit while out snowshoeing and sking
weight isnt an issue
i could use my 22lr but i really like the airguns and it quiet on a nice trail
so help me decide here
range will be 50 yards tops
if im missing options here lemme know im open to suggestion and my price will be 350 tops it doesnt have to be a tack driver but it has to be decent im not shooting benchrest but on long shots id like squirrel head shots

From what I’ve seen it’s just springers. Someone could tell you better, but it’s something about the way they recoil. It is going to recoil and vibrate, but it does it differently depending on what your rest is. So when you sight it in, you are taking into account that vibration, but when you change rests, the vibration changes and it is no longer dead on.
Any gun can change a little depending on hold. If you take a firearm and hold it to your shoulder differently it will be off by a bit, but it’s nowhere near as much.
Off the top of my head, a pretty average build/bluing quality (I’ve seen better on some Chinese springers), hollow cheap feeling stock (and I am a fan of synthetic stocks – so I know what the good ones feel like), violent firing cycle (even though the gun I shot had received a mild tune), very average trigger even after it had been worked on.
How about I rephrase my opinion to “polished turd”?
I’ve been fortunate to shoot with some very nice springers through the guys at the local FT club. The good ones are so damn nice, it can really skew your objectivity toward lesser guns…..
With cheap springers, you really get what you pay for with few exceptions. I guess it all depends on what your expectations are, but I will not buy them. If you don’t have anything to compare it to as a point of reference, you’ll probably be satisfied with it.
You have to be willing to accept that they’re probably going to be a project gun needing a fair amount of work to get them right after purchase.
hey Lama, why is it that some airguns do that? Beause mine does that too if I sight it in while laying down then I shoot something standing up, it shoots half a foot off…is it only airguns that do that also?
Based upon your description, the gun you should be looking at is the Beeman RX-2.
And what makes you think that it’s a ‘POS?’
Rob’s not kidding, springers are really freaking hard to shoot. Even my cfx, which is supposed to be more tolerant on holds than most guns, and way more tolerant than magnums, I can only group about 1″ at 25 yards. I don’t know if the guns is capable of much more, but that’s all I can do. And if I sight it in off a rest, and then try to shoot offhand, it will no longer be sighted in. I have to sight it in holding it the same way I will be hunting with it.
The condor is SOOOO much easier. 😛
1.5 inches at 50 yards is a tall order for a magum spring gun unless you have experience in shooting them.. but it certainly is possible.
Check out the post I did on the Yellow earlier today. Several groups that are well within 1.5 inches at 50 yards. The 350 will do it..the Kodiak/Patriot will do it….. the real question is can you!?

Average for my Patriot/Kodiak is 1.25 to 1.5 inch at 50 yards…but with a little work, I can get PCP-like groups with either gun.

I’ll take some pics for you. I bought it used, It’s digi camo, .22, I’ve got less than 500 shots through it, I’d have to go back and look for info from the prior owner. Usage marks… well the camo finish isn’t perfect but it’s not the peeling of the rubberized coating that some have reported, the prior owner and I both tried to remove the endcap and learned how soft the Alu is 🙁 and the stock scope works fine but you wouldn’t believe the ring marks, I didn’t know you could dent cheap scopes that much just by snugging down the scope rings. Anyway – price would reflect all this. If I haven’t scared you off, let me know and I’ll send you pics
Shoot crow would do that much to the gun in the first week of having it…lol
