need help picking new gun open my eyes
ok never been a springer guy really im starting to really like some stuff ive been seeing. so ive decided i need a springer. well almost/ i want to go with a gas ram gun because ill be using it hunting mostly and some target shooting.
i want to go with .22 cal cause ive got pleny of .22 ammo already. I am really liking the looks of the the crosman nitro in .22
but i see the walther talon magnum with the air venturi ram in it also.
i dont know if there are other out there but
i want .22 cal will be using for small game from rat to fox
fox will be under 15 yards basically they like to travel the back of inlaws lawn
i will be using it alot for rabbit while out snowshoeing and sking
weight isnt an issue
i could use my 22lr but i really like the airguns and it quiet on a nice trail
so help me decide here
range will be 50 yards tops
if im missing options here lemme know im open to suggestion and my price will be 350 tops it doesnt have to be a tack driver but it has to be decent im not shooting benchrest but on long shots id like squirrel head shots

I’ll take some pics for you. I bought it used, It’s digi camo, .22, I’ve got less than 500 shots through it, I’d have to go back and look for info from the prior owner. Usage marks… well the camo finish isn’t perfect but it’s not the peeling of the rubberized coating that some have reported, the prior owner and I both tried to remove the endcap and learned how soft the Alu is 🙁 and the stock scope works fine but you wouldn’t believe the ring marks, I didn’t know you could dent cheap scopes that much just by snugging down the scope rings. Anyway – price would reflect all this. If I haven’t scared you off, let me know and I’ll send you pics
You are wanting high power and that equals a lot of time to get accuracy down pat. Not saying it cannot be done. I assure you that I can shoot groups with many of my springers that will put PCP’s to shame… but I practice a lot.
For the 25+ fpe range, you are going to be limited. If you go the cheap route with the Nitro, Walter, Gamo or such…. you will be disappointed.
For that kind of power, go for a used Kodiak or ENGLISH made Patriot…not the Turkish shit they are trying to pass off as Webleys.
I have one of each and they are excellent guns. Dont be too concerned about spring vs ram. The spring wont take a set that quickly and a good tuned spring gun is easily as nice as a rammed gun. If you are dead set on ramming the gun, talk to David Slade. I have both my .25 Kodiak and .22 Patriot rammed and they are exceptional.
The RWS 460 is supposed to be powerful, but many reports of it having a very harsh firing cycle. I have never shot one, so I cannot say.
Dropping the power a bit would be the RWS 350. Expect 20-22fpe out of the box. This is a long and quite ungainly gun… but with proper technique can be accurate.
The RWS 48/52 and semi recoil less 54 would be the next step at around 20fpe in .22. They are tanks that are accurate in the right hands. The 54 being the easiest of the lot for a new spring gun shooter to shoot accurately.
A step down in power would be the R1. In .22, you should be looking at roughly 18fpe. It’s well made and accurate….

I’m tellin ya… that B40 is like $240 (the hot chick is probably extra). It’s said to be a TX200 clone. I wish I had bought one though Melick or another tuner instead of my Nitro…. hmmm… Want my Nitro? 🙂
Call a sportsman’s warehouse. Many have RWS350s left. I know for a fact there is a very nice example in .177 for $269 -10% discount in Mount Vernon, Washington.
Based upon your description, the gun you should be looking at is the Beeman RX-2.

Can you shoot .22 shorts out of your .22 Rifle? That would work pretty well….
the reason for as ram is i can leave it cocked all day while out riding snowmobile or skiing with the springers they say they can take a form in the spring when left cocked
plus im lookin for 25 ft lb gun as state i also wanna shoot fox and coon

I have a .22 nitro. Can’t say I’m all that impressed. Shoots hard, not quiet, harsh but very quick firing cycle, others disagree but mine is extremely hold sensitive.
Why the desire for a gas ram? Different price range but once I learned to shoot it my HW97k was more accurate than my TSS (even with the recoil).
In a lesser price range, I would recommend a tuned B40 from one of the chinese gun reseller/tuners. An added bonus would would be that you can say you have one of ….these 😯 😀 8) 😈
my varmint rifle .223 is 10-11 lbs and i snowshoe miles with that lol weight isnt an issue for me
i had a gamo hunter and liked it but it was .177
i wanted .22 cal
