New $210 Tuxing 4500psi compact compressor
After much deliberation I have bought a compressor to fill my PCPs and pony bottles.
I was torn between spending decent money on a Bauer JNR or just take a risk on a cheep Chinese job.
The new Altaros booster looked great but it still relies on a regular work shop compressor to operate which would mean I would have to spend more money upgrading my current workshop cheapo or it would soon let me down.
So after searching many cheap Chinese compressors I found this one that is very well priced and fairly new to the market.

I had no real need to fill 12ltr dive bottles with a compressor (which Im sure this one will do) so a lightweight will suit my needs.
It will be mainly used to direct fill my PCPs, top up my 500cc backpack bottle from 180 to 300bar and top up my 3ltr pony bottle from 180bar to 240bar.
Between them all I have more than enough air for an outing.
I had some reserves about build quality but it is a very simple unit and I had the seller pack in enough piston seals, O rings and plastic seats to rebuild the thing ten times over for a very reasonable $7 extra.
The Seller was extremely helpful and seems to know his product with full back up service parts available.
Fuxing my Tuxing looks to be very simple and it lends itself to loads of upgrades such as a larger oil/air separator.
I just received a litre of high quality Special Bauer full synthetic breathing air compressor oil which cost me a crazy $70 but there is enough for 4 services. (1000 hour intervals)
The unit arrived in New Zealand from China via TNT in a very speedy 4 days! Currently being held in customs but I hope to see it any day now.
Ill add to my review as I spend some time using it.
My expectations are realistic with any Chinese purchase but the price seemed right on this one.. It is really not much more than a motorised 2 stage hand pump and keeping that in mind the price is very reasonable.
I will be using it for very short intervals not hours on end like the shoe box compressor etc require so wear and tear should be a lot less.

Id recommend it to the average airgunner who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and can work a set of allen wrenches.. (believe me I’ve met plenty that can’t)
Id recommend it as a direct gun filling device over a hand pump (about the same price) and really it is best to keep to 500cc bottles if filling to 4500psi unless you only run it in stages for 10 mins at a time and then let it fully cool down.
Keep the filters clean and dry and look for the first signs of “dark” oil or carbon in the line filter.
Remove the 4 cap screws in the top and lift the head of every 2 hours of run time or if you notice the fill times slowing down and inspect the four hP piston rings. change them if they look like this:
The black gunky blow by is a sure sign of oil getting past the rings and combusting.
Use a good synthetic breathing air compressor oil and dont get the bottom end too hot with extended run times.
The rings are cheap, like $6 per 10 pcs.. buy plenty and change them often and the compressor will last a long time.
I pulled the head for inspection on my compressor yesterday after a little over 2 hours on the rebuild… still spotless 🙂

The parts for my rebuild arrived this morning and after a good clean with alcohol I clocked the rings correctly and reassembled it all with new Bauer synthetic compressor oil and ran it without load for 20mins.
Back in business, fills my 500cc buddy bottle from dead empty to 4500psi in 5 mins.
I replaced the chinese manometer with a good quality Sabre one and filled it with glycerine.. the cheap chinese one was about 10bar out and the needle vibrated so much it was hard to read. The new one works great and gives me more peace of mind when direct filling guns.
Congrats on “breaking” her in. And much appreciation for pioneering the way for the rest of us to follow. Just hopefully not the catastrophe. You and GKU have helped so many with your threads.

This very low reving electrically driven piston poses very little threat of bodly harm even by throwing its leg out of bed like it did.. the hpa contained in the unit should it explode in this mannor is a very small amount in the upper head above the hp piston and whip line… not enough for any sort of explosive behaviour.. think of the small hiss a whip line makes when its bled off.
The damage you can see is actually a result of the crappy chinese cast cylinder wall cracking from combustion (my fault) and seprating when the piston conected with it on the up stroke.. you can see the imprint on the side of the piston where it kissed the broken cylinder base on its way up.. the electric motor continued to fling the piston around until it flew off the crank as there is no bolt retaining the conrod to the crank.. all in all very little energy involved. The series of small combustion explosions above the 10mm dia second stage piston would have been very small.. think RC aircraft Cox 049 glow plug engine.. unfortunatly the rubbish cast cylinder wall is not made for anything more than about 120psi like a std workshop compressor so therefore cracked with the added combustion and was push aside buy the piston.
I have got to know this little compressor well and like I said just got lazy.. I guess there was a little intent there too 😉

I know u know your shits on HPA/PCPs, but man ……….. I’d get something safer than that from China built for revenge $210 compressor that has a mind of it’s own, don’t want to see something bad happen to a fine family man as yourself.

Well well well…. I succeeded in breaking my compressor, proper broke it.. in fact catastrophic failure!
After connecting it to my dive bottle and turning it on I went inside to grab my other bottles to fill and I heard a loud mechanical bang and the compressor noise stopped..
I rushed back out to the shed and first spotted the compressors piston and conrod laying on the floor, I had to step over it to shut it off.. the electric motor was still spinning the crank and it was trying to vibrate of my work bench.. the head and piston cylinder was blown clean off and hanging off the wip line and dive bottle..
The piston was badly damaged and the rings were smashed all over the place.. the second stage piston was broken off and its four rings were missing completely.
My educated guess tells me by the amount of carbon on the second stage piston and the very burned Viton O rings that seal the second stage piston cylinder to the head is that this pump went pop because of dieseling due to too much oil getting past the upper second stage piston rings and getting compressed to 4500psi…
I am not at all surprised this happened and to be honest I was kinda expecting it..
I have been procrastinating replacing the second stage piston rings every time I used it, I had noticed weeks ago that it was taking much longer to fill tanks and there was a lot of oil starting to appear in the line filters and bleed cycle.
I am almost happy it happened because now I know how hard I can push it and how often I should be changing the second stage rings. They are very cheap and I have a whole bag of them, I just got lazy and kept telling myself Ill change them before the next fill… Ill change them before the next fill ;D
I have ordered a new cylinder and piston kit for it that should be here next in a couple of days.. again the parts are very cheap and the service has been great.
After a bottom end inspection and clean I have rebuilt/resealed the head and cleared out all debris and old oil/carbon and its ready to assemble with the new bits.
I have lost count of how many hours Ive put on this little compressor and how many bottles and gun fills its done but I am still very happy with it and it doesnt break the bank even having to do a major rebuild.
$40 american and its back in business.
With dive bottle fills costing $7 to $10 a time and all the annual/biannual dive bottle related tests it is not cheap to own multiple bottles.
The capability to direct fill guns and the smaller carbon fiber buddy bottles to 300bar has also been great.
Now I know the units limits I will look after it and service it more regularly for sure as I can firmly say my desire to break it and test the Chinese engineering’s integrity has been satisfied..
Im not going to lie… I did laugh a lot when I found the piston laying on the floor in front of my dive bottle.. 😉 in the same breath Im glad I had gone insideand wasnt standing over it..

Back in the early 1960’s I stumbled upon a product from Germany called “Klotz”…a synthetic oil that was unknown outside of the two stroke community. When used, no two stroke smoked from the exhaust and that was a first in those days prior to oil injection. It cost $5.00 a bottle and that was a high end product when the going wage was .50 cents an hour! It was worth it! The engine never gummed up, the exhaust stayed clean, and the plugs never needed to be changed…a complete change from the petro oil normally used.
The price of your compressor is very tempting. If the quality build is any indication, this may be a “must buy”. Keep us informed!
By the way…drumstick, did the earthquake affect your area? I never knew New Zealand had such events. Other than the occasional kiwi attacks on senior citizens and children, I thought things were very quiet down there.

Nothing smells better than Klotz Techniplate and 104 race gas. I love mixing up a cab to use in my vintage lawn boy mower and all my echo products. smells like going to the races while I do the yard work
