New 4500 psi 500 cc bottle test on the .257 Talon/Dor
OK, got the 500cc 4500 psi bottle in late yesterday, and got it ready to do a bit of testing this afternoon. Only had about an hour to test, but learned a lot already. 😀
I have recently experimented with overfilling the factory bottle. And “NO” Don’t do this!!! My bad, and my foolishness.
Now for the results so far. The factory bottle (500 cc’s) at 3000psi in the 21″ barreled .257 with a 60 grain NOE was shooting at 930’s. It did shoot quite a bit faster with the original valve that Doug made for it, but it was bored out “TOO” much and finally failed. It was putting out in the 970 range.
I pushed the factory bottle up to 3400 psi and it climed to the same 970 the old valve did at 3000.
Enter the 4500 bottle. I filled it to 4000 and did a string. It was 990-998-1007-1021-1012-1002-990–983-976-971—-WooHoo!!!!!!!! :8:
I then ran her up to 4500 and the bullet hit the ground in front of the target at 80 yards. Dayum!!!
Need more spring I guess. But she sure is Shooting Good!!! Blowing like a Mother Today, so no real accuracy test. A little over an inch was the best I could do.
Running into something odd though. 5 shots on the money, then a sudden drop of about 2 inches and 2″ to the left. And a good group there. Two completely different groups. 😯
Ran the test again and it repeated. exactly!
Obviously, I need more testing!!!

EDIT: ah… I didn’t see your post before maw… I thought below a certain size you don’t hydro test? Or is that just for all metal tanks?
Every 5 years,so you got till 2019.
How often do any 500cc air gun tanks get hydro? :whistle: :fishinghole:
This is a little off topic, but if the air tank calculator I used is right, a 97 cu ft 4500 psi tank will only fill this 500cc tank of ours 3 times, from 3800 psi back up to 4400 psi. Conversely, a 80 cu ft 3,000 psi tank would fill it -51.8 times :rofl: Oh man… I think I’m gonna need a bigger tank!!!
Oh man, I hope Dman is able to get more of these… It would sure help out the slug shooters!!! I’ve got big plans for this bottle… I know we’ve touched on hydrotesting, but for a tank this small, what is the schedule? Paintball tanks are what, every 3-5 years? What would our schedule be?

I use this tank to shoot only with regulate valve. I get 130 constant shots with JSB pellets 15 grains at 900 fps. Output 2100 psi
I intend to use it without the regulated valve at a Condor .25 cal. For now I’m using another tank:

The pressure of this tank is 250 bar = 3600 psi.
I shoot .25 cal cast bullets 52 grains at 1100 fps. (180 J = 132 fpe).
Fuck Yeah!! 😈 And the project is rolling… Now to find someone to machine my frame and I’m good…..

Man, that got out of hand really quick… back to my original question: Knife- Did you just thread that valve directly into the 4500 psi tank? It would certainly be nice to just be able to do that…
