Q:

New RAW .357…Pics and some data….

Just the basics to fill the recent void of the NEW RAW 357…..

The gun is built on the New HM1000x action…. The action is “DEDICATED” for the JSB .35 Pellets and Magazine… the receiver is NOT Interchangeable with other RAW Magazines. Additionally it has a “HIGH POWER” spring set in it…. the Side cocking leaver makes it a joy to operate.

Additionally the HM1000x .357 sports a Aluminum LDC

The newer .35 JSB pellets are actually listed as 81 grain pellets… and have a much cleaner look to them. When I shot the original prototype gun earlier in the year the pellets were not a crisp looking. What I can say is…. they Shoot as good as they look!!

The magazine holds a wopping seven 81 grain pellets…. for a total of 567 grains of lead !!!!!

As mentioned in a previous thread… the HM1000x .357 will be offered in 2 configurations…..
REGULATED …. which seems I deal for the 81 grain Pellets…. and UNREGULATED for the Heavier cast pellet / Bullets.

As mentioned in the thread title….. SOME DATA….
Over the weekend I got the opportunity of a lifetime to shoot with Martin Rutterford and his NEW HM1000x .357.. AND I put it through its paces!!!!
We started approx 9:30am and ended at 4:00 ish… I did manage to pry the gun out of may hands for a few minutes to eat lunch!!!!!

OK… here are a few numbers… as mentioned before… I am not a hunter… but I have been shooting
Benchrest for about 3 years… I will say I wouldn’t rule it for being able to win a competition…(in the right hands)…..

If you are a Pig or Coyote or any thing smaller….HIDE NOW!!!!!!

now the data..

Regulated Version:

Muzzle velocity 81gr – 740 fps……. Velocity @75 yrds – 630 fps…..Velocity @100yrds – 596 fps

UN-Regulated Version (127gr Cast .356 dia)

Muzzle velocity 127gr – 670 fps…… Velocity @75 yrds – 618 fps …. Velocity @ 100 yards – 600 fps

…and before you do the Math… 127gr cast have 100 FPE of Energy at 100 YARDS….and the batch I
tested Fly as Straight as an ARROW !!!!!! (actually 101.55fpe….but who is counting)

…… Now for those that are interested…. here is a Photo of the Current Batch of RAW HM1000X currently being processed…..

Still working on a complete review…. with ALL the data !!!!!

As I offered before…. I will have the gun out for anyone to try it at this weekend Phoenix Airgun Benchrest Match….

I hope you enjoyed the Pics……

Well my .30 was getting 50 shots from 898 fps to 905 fps before it fell off the reg at 888 fps. I turned it down to 890-900 fps so I should get 60 shots.

I still haven’t shot it for accuracy but I’m going to go over to a GTA members house and test it. He has same barrel on his evanix. He is getting sub MOA at 100 yds with JSB’s and a 70 gr custom mold.

I’m not all about speed but most pellets work good around 900 fps so I look to start there.

I have heard complaints about how bad the .30 drops compared to .25.
At 740 fps just seems slow. I know if slugs are shot that slow they Have a rainbow trajectory.

Plus shooting my .257 at 1080 fps it shoots real straight with minimal drop. I know Cedric doesn’t like shooting the 85 gr bullets because he loose his distance and his gun shoots around a 1000 fps.

Will find out on Saturday how the .30 works.

You never answered what barrel is the .357? What did they try for .30?

Doug

Its all about the Barrel / Pellet fit. Martin was unable to get anything close to his accuracy demands during the original testing of the .30. Funny thing is … During my visit to RAW, the Newer JSB 30’s Shot MUCH Better. I now have the barrels for further testing..

As mentioned in my other posts…. It all about the accuracy !!!!!

what is “Fast Enough”…. and has it be successfully done ? I know you guys over here on the TAG forum are the “GO TO ” guys for what
I would call “Wildcatting”…..

So please can you show me: (using NON custom projectiles)

1- Super flat trajectory’s … WITH … Bench Rest Accuracy..
2- High Shot count … WITH …. High FPE…

Please know I am NOT Being a Smart ass…. This is a legitimate request… I just have not seen anything to date as a “Off the Shelf” Product. OR even a custom build that is Usable for Hunting and Or Target shooting.

Also… if you have the “MAGIC” contact for custom barrels … Please tell me who to call !!!

I was wondering the same thing… I’m not sure a .357 would do all that well in the Rapid type platform, a .30 is pushing it. Maybe with Sumo action, but I’m not sure even a RAW action is flowing enough air to push a .357 fast enough. I’m building a .30 in a Dawson action with a TJ barrel, so once it’s done we’ll see how that goes. But it’s only got maybe 400cc’s air? It’s got a 19″ 1.5″ Ti reservoir.

Thanks

The barrel being used is the LW right?

I’m hoping to have better luck with the barrel I’m going to use.

Did they not have any luck with .30? Just wondering why they went from .25 to .357.

The Mid to upper 800’s is do able ….. with a significant loss of “ACCURACY”…. keep in mind for me the goal is Longer range Accuracy and the ability to cheat the wind. Initial Muzzle velocity is not the necessary Key…. I wish I could quote some fancy formula with regards to the “Deceleration” to terminal velocity…. I know that every airgun has an Upper limit to performance with relationship to caliber and speed. Gravity is gravity… as long as the “velocity Window” is optimized… and I can hit my target with predictable shot placement.

I have watched your builds over the last few years and am very impressed with your work!!!

For me its about Accuracy and a reasonable Shot count…. as you know the performance of these guns is limited to the “Barrel & Pellet” combination…

Nice looking gun

To bad it is shooting so slow. I would expect at least 850 fps minimum to keep it from having a rainbow trajectory. I here the .30 has the same problem and most guns are shooting 850-880 fps.

I will see this weekend with my .30 shooting at 900 fps. Then I’m on to making a .35 shoot at 900 fps.
