Q:

New to Air-Guns! Please Help!

Hi, my name is Jason and I’m a Freshman in High-School and until recently, I haven’t really been interested in Pellet/BB/Air-Soft guns. However, after seeing the TalonSS on Pyramydair I decided that I had to get one by this Christmas. I have no clue on how to really use an Air-Rifle, however I’ve read and researched a lot about them when I had wanted to get the Gamo Whisper .22 Cal w/ the Air Venturi Ram Gas upgrade. I didn’t know about “tune ups” until I heard of a person who did it for Gamo under the alias of CharlieDaTuna which eventually led me here.

I’ve been searching through the forums and I was at first thinking of getting the “combo” pack for the Talon SS w/ the scope but saw someone say to instead get the Bushnell Legend 5-15×40 Rifle Scope for the same amount of money. I was wondering about a few things about the TalonSS Air-Rifle and I was wondering if you guys here at this active forum could answer them. I sent a copy of these questions (below) to the customer support Email team at Pyramydair but am not sure because I have had terrible experiences with their chat support. I was also wondering where I could get the cheapest TalonSS (Gun Only) and a separate rail (for the Bushnell Legend) and the Bushnell Legend Scope. I know that Pyramydair has a 10% off on your whole shopping cart coupon but I was wondering if you guys knew a different store that offered something higher? Do you guys know if Air-Gun retailers give bigger coupons during Christmas time? My wallet is a little on the thin side and I was wondering if I could get this all for under/around $600.

Also, in my state (VA) and city (suburban), shooting any projectiles from a gun (be it pellet/bb/airsoft) are prohibited. However, all of my friends with Pellet guns and bb guns shoot them in their backyard and I was wondering if people under these same conditions always went to a hunting area to shoot squirrels and birds? I know I’m going a little bit high on the quality and price for my first air gun; however, after seeing the TalonSS I’m not sure I can resist buying it. I would absolutely get a full tune up from TalonTunes when I can afford it, but until then I’m going to hope the TalonSS I get will be as good as people say.
PS: I just registered onto Talonairgun’s forums and I would like to say thank you to everyone reading this!

———————————-Questions—————————————
-What is the difference between the c02 version and PCP version of Airforce Talon SS?
-Do you need an adaptor for a (any) pump to connect to the air tank of the Airforce Talon SS? If so, what is the name/where can I find it on this site?
-Can any pump with a psi-measuring dial w/ an adaptor for the air tank be used to pump air into the Talon SS? I have a bike tire pump that looks exactly like “AirForce 3-stage PCP Hand Pump”, but I’m not exactly sure if it would work with the Airforce tank.
-For the AirForce Talon SS – Gun only – no sights -no clamp Powerful pre-charged pneumatic , Caliber – 0.22, where could I buy clamps for the AirForce 4-16x50AO Rifle Scope, Mil-Dot Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 1″ Tube?
-What are good pellets for the TalonSS? I’ve heard of some called Eun Jin which I think are super heavy and Benjamin pellets which I think are for practicing/plinking.

just as bean said, look in to it first, I first started with a Talon SS and a hand pump, really cool.
However the hand punp is good for 1 thing and 1 thing only, back-up 😳 😳 😳 😳 😳
What you want is a scuba tank and a verified place to fill it.
Check out your resources before you jump in, and
also, read up here and not in the off topic but the quick ref. section.
You will know every thing ya need to know.
Good luck, you will figure it out.

Okay, so to fill up the TalonSS, the best option would be to go to a Dive store and get it filled with a Scuba tank? Also, I’m pretty sure of this but I would get the PCP version of the TalonSS right? This TalonSS (Link below) wouldn’t need an adaptor or anything (2nd, 3rd, and 4th link) for getting filled up by a Scuba Tank would it (the Dive store’s scuba tanks would probably have adapters right….?

1 & 2. Co2 comes in a Co2 bottle and takes a Co2 adapter valve(AFU1050) to fit on to the Talon SS. PCP means precharged pneumatics or air powered and has it own special bottle with the valve screwed in to it. The PCP bottle also needs a special adapter(AFU1009 and AFU1010) to fill it. I do not know were to find it on this forum.

3. You will need a special pump a bike pump will NOT work. Please look under Generial Chat top of page.

4. If by clamps you mean rings at the same place you buy your rifle or scope or any hunting supply store.

5. For my Talon SS in .22 I like Crosman Premiers in the carboard box, JBS any size you like, Beeman Kodiak. I have never used the Eun Jin in my .22 Talon SS.

I would not buy the Air Force scope and that is just my opinion Air Force makes air rifles not scopes.

I’m going to assume this is a ligitiment post.

Hang around and read up. Don’t buy the gun until you do the research.
REALLY BASIC answers to your questions…

PCP = Precharged Pnuematic. CO2 and HPA (High Pressure Air) are both PCP fuels. CO2 has a lower operating presure (slower pellet, less range) but much higher shot count per tank. Works less well as air temps drop. CO2 requires a trip to the Paintball store to refill, HPA requires a pump or a scuba tank for refills.

Adapter from tank to pump depends upon which pump you use. The AF pump does not come highly reccomended (again, search/read) but the pump and AF adapter (again sold by PA and others) connects easily.

Any Pump? When was the last time you pumped your bicycle tires to 3000psi??? You need a special pump. figure $300 for a good one or maybe you’ll get a deal on a used one

Scope mounts? PA sells them as do many other vendors.

Haha yes my parents know I am using the Internet. Also I had already known about PCP’s and that it was consisted of Co2, and High-Pressured air. I was from the beginning, going to stay around and do a bit more research before even buying the gun. I’m sorry, I don’t really check the psi of bike tires when pumping nor look at the dial much (I’ve forgotten how high it goes also). I usually just check if the tires are “hard” and have enough pressure for me to ride around on the bike better. I don’t know why my age remotely matters to you. I know for a fact that many people on here and everywhere else on the world started Airguns when they were about my age (or younger). Sorry for sounding like I’m mad at you (I’m not), I guess I’m cranky at night 😉

EDIT: By the way, thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions :]
PS: I like your profile pic. That is Brad Pitt is it not?
