New Vulcan Questions

Hey Fellas,

Just ordered a .22 Vulcan from Top Gun for pesting and plinking. It will join my hw97kt and steroid 392 as my first pcp. It’s probably a totally irresponsible purchase. Then again, the nice about money is you can always make more of it.

Anyway I got a couple of questions for the Vulcan experts out there.

1) Any recommendations for a mid powered, mid sized scope (maybe like a 4x16x40 or something) that would go well with this pup? I’d prefer not to spend more than 350 or so. 250 would be better, provided the quality is there. I was originally planning on putting my hawke airmax 3x9x40 on it, but I feel like half the time I shoot I have to readjust that thing. A $1600 gun deserves better.

2) Ditto for ring recommendations. You guys think medium, or low with a 40mm scope?

3) Does anyone know where to get extra magazines? Two seems like about half as many as I’d want. I asked Top Gun and they said they were out of stock.

4) Are there any random spare parts I should pick up while I’m at it? I live outside the country so if it shits the bed in any way I’m probably going to have to either try to fix it myself or have someone local do it.

Thanks guys!

What about the loudness of Vulcan .25? Is it more Matador .25 like or Matador .22 / Cricket .22 like?

It is a nice looking gun, the stock is nicely done on the Vulcan. To me it is sharp. But I think the Mutant has a few better features. According to Ernest’s pictures and videos it’s going to be a major player in its class. Whoever is building it, I think he’s done his homework. We will see when they get their first big shipment in, how successful these 2 will be. Time will tell.

Vice I’m super happy with mine. I am glad I got one. The taipan is only in 22

Hey guys, some of you where too trigger happy with your money. The Vulcan has it’s own issues it seems like on the forums. According to Ernest he thinks this new Taipan Mutant is quite the gun.I emailed him last week and he’s so excited about this gun.Like a kid with a new toy. He likes the trigger, mag index system, reg, shot count very nice gun. I’m gonna sit back and watch these episodes unfold and enjoy my Edgun. :6:

I just hope the dealers have enough sense to order in some extra mags with the shipment.

Plus you should have asked if you will be getting one. He knows how many are on order and now many he is getting. That should sooth you a bit.

It depends. What did you order. I sold my 25 cricket because I wanted a shorter gun. Will have to live with the clip thing. It’s anyone’s guess when we get them as there is an issue with getting a steady flow of stocks for these guns.

Eelect- your comment about Top Gun being out of stock made me call to ask about my order. Turns out they’re actually out of stock despite what their website says, with no definite date as to when they will be in stock again. Well fuck me right in the goat ass. What a buzzkill.

What do we think: wait for the vulcans to come in and hope I get one, or say fuck it and order a cricket?

elect that is the biggest thing I miss about my cricket. Loading the mags If kalibergun was smart they would be working on a cricket II that would have a forward bolt get rid of the magazine switch a better cheek weld and an more compact stock

Oh wait they just need to simplify the Colibri

I suppose Top Gun doesn’t have any Vulcans in stock. The one thing about the cricket is the mags are easy to load and hold a lot of rounds, I see myself missing that right off the bat.

Thanks for the recommendations boys. I’ll definitely take them into consideration.

I’m stoked to try this puppy out on the local wildlife. There’s a lake down here in El Salvador that’s been infested with an invasive species of cormorant that is really effing up the ecosystem. I went out on a trip sponsored by the ministry of the environment last week with my hw97kt in .177 and tagged about 45 of them in 3 hours or so. I immediately came to the conclusion that a compact and lightweight .22 repeater would have been a way more effective rig for this application. Started looking at bullpups and decided (based partially on what you guys have written) that of the forward cocking models currently available the vulcan was the more robust. It would have been nice if the wildcat was out for some comparisons, but its not, so that made my decision easier.

The only thing that’s got me worried is the lack of extra mags. I feel like having to do a full fiddly mag reload after only 20 shots or so is going to be a pain in the ass in a pesting situation. I’d much prefer to have enough mags to shoot through a whole tank and then fill them all back up at the same time I fill the tank up. Hopefully they get into stock soon.

I have Burris signature zee mediums ring with inserts waiting to be mounted on my 25 Vulcan. Will top it with SWFA SS 3-15×42 Tactical Rifle Scope. Looks like will have to wait a bit till they get here.

I think medium rings will work just fine on that set up you just discribed. As far as a scope I think for the money its Hard to beat the SWFA SS fix power scope with the mil quad reticle There is plenty of adjustment on the turrets and the reticle is very usable for PCP guns. Because it is a fixed power scope it loses a lot of weight so the scope is relatively light and compact. The parallax goes from 10 yards to infinity. For a lot of people. Who have never owned a fixed power scope they are nervous because they are so used to variable powered scopes but honestly I don’t miss adjusting the power on my scopes when using them in a hunting setting.

I don’t know where to get extra mags I am waiting on a few myself. I think we are going to have to wait for Evgeny to catch up with his gun orders after he had to find a new stocker. As far as O rings I also know that at least one cocking rod broke so maybe an extra one of those.

Congrats on the new gun. I love my Vulcan
