Noob Vulcan Owner
I just purchased my first PCP a Vulcan .25 from Tony. If not for this forums high regard for Tony I would be very nervous right now weather my new gun even existed or not. Tony says he will have it shipped by Friday. I have yet to purchase a hand pump pellets or scope. I am leaning tward the hills pump and a hawk sidewinder 30 scope. I was wondering if anyone information on break in sight in pellet selection any other heads up for a noob pcp/vulcan owner. Looking to shoot targets and help keep the red squirrel population in check around our small hobby farm in SW Michigan.

Hi guys
Not taking sides here, just my opinion.
I have the Hawke in the Video clip frpm SA, and also the Edgun scope, the latter very similar to SWFA being fixed power not variable.
The test for the turret accuracy should have the turrets spun many times. Then retest. Brian is suggesting they wear with use.
Bet the SWFA and Edgun stand up to that test, built to military specs.
The Hawke who is going to test their spinning turrets first? Suggested test just as the SA guy did ,then spin say up down left and right going back to zero each time for say 50 times, you don’t need to fire the gun, then back to the target and repeat test card again. Same gun, same pellets , same wind, same day.
Off you all go then ,lol
Safe shooting

Gin, I agree with your assessment that not everyone sees things the same way, but I don’t agree that everyone’s opinion carries the same value. This isn’t about glass quality. You’d be hard pressed to find where I posted about the super glass on a SWFA. Super glass is on a Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski, or Zeiss, not a 300 dollar SWFA. When looking through a S&B scope you can see bullet trace if the light is right. SWFA is good enough for a 200 yard or less pellet gun. What the SWFA does well is track. The Hawke scopes do not track well. The turrets are mushy and if you spin them enough they won’t return to zero. What I have realized being on airgun forums vs my other forum (sniper’s hide) is that when I first came here I rarely found an airgunner who spun his turret. So for the most part I think a lot of shooters didn’t even know how poor Hawke scopes are at tracking. The internals are just not that durable.
300 bux is a super cheap scope. I mean super cheap. Just for the record the SWFA 16X is not a FFP. It is a fixed power scope, it can’t change.
Ted: At the end of the day, its all about what you want to do with you’re gun and how you’re eyes and brain work together. I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of scopes and not everyone sees things the same way. One person will tell you they love it and the next will tell you they don’t. Both are true, the problem is what will be true for you. I own a Hawke Varmint scope some people say it was the worse scope they ever used. For me it worked just fine, no clearer than any other scope, my MTC Optisan Viper, not as good at 24x but great at 16x where I shoot it the most. Now i stepped up to the SWFA 16x upon recommendation here, will i like it most likely once i get use to the FFP, but i guess i’m not that picky, I even like the picture quality on my Leapers UGT scope and it was like 149.95 but didn’t like the thick reticle. So that’s my two cents, just know the longer you stay in the game the more expensive stuff is going to get, if you don’t get it now you WILL get it later.
Ted, everyone here had similar thoughts on scopes when we started this addiction. You can go the 100 to 180 dollar route. It was my experience to end up with three low quality scopes that did not satisfy my need for accuracy. The advice you have received will save you money and frustration in the long run.
Buy the SWAF or one of similar quality, you have already made a substantial investment, don’t ruin the setup with a questionable scope.
Regards & Welcome

Tac ted, ask and ye shall receive
See this is how I mind fuck you guys, I only show you super expensive stuff at first then I come in with the cheaper model that makes it seem like I just showed you the deal of the century
Mr. Tunes (Tony) stepped up and has taken care of me. My gun should arrive Friday I have a tracking number. I cannot wait! The red squirrel’s have no idea what’s coming. I will order some JSB kings and heavys as well. Do you guys recommend buying a SWFA SS on Amazon or do you have other recommendations? Any recommendations on scope rings? I like the 20 moa but $250.00 for scope rings seems excessive.
Normally Tony is 100% dependable, but he is having some health issues that might slow him down a bit temporarily. You WILL get your gun and when you do, it will be test fired and of top notch quality. I got mine from him early last week and later found he had been in the hospital only a couple days before getting mine ready and shipping out. You are good to go. Just get your scope (I actually have a Hawke Sidewinder 30 on mine and love it) and ring so you’ll be ready to shoot that puppy!
I also concur that for targets and squirrels, it would be hard to beat JSB Heavies for your Vulcan (or cricket, or edgun or any other slavic made gun).
Good luck and welcome to the TAG AND this PCP addiction!
Keysor, I got mine from Oak, he didn’t want to sell it but I told him to bad it’s mine now. Poor Bastard is still waiting for his $$$$$$$$$$$$ I can’t believe how crystal clear it is, great scope too! It went on my Vulcan. I have several Leupold scopes that are 6X18 but rarely do I go above 12X.
I have the SWFA 10x 12x and 16X as well as the 3-15 X42 FFP. The 12X is the most versatile and depending on the range you plan on shooting the 16X might be better I usually recommend the 16X first because most airgunners don’t believe me thar 12X is enough magnification. The sub-tensions are all the same. The reticle width is slightly different between the 16X and 12X. What you get in a fixed powered scope is the simplicity of a FFP scope with the crisp exact thin reticle of a SFP scope.
I use the rear focus so much that when I switch to the side focus I’m all screwed up. I have a good buddy who is my long range partner. I spot for him, dope wind, weather and mark bullet trace for him and he for me. I swear you have never met a bigger scope snob than my friend. I made him shoot my SWFA 12X that I threw on a Tubb 6mm XC and then I caught him with one sitting on his Cooper .17 Hornet several months later. BUSTED!
Mine is the 12X42 and it’s great. I’ve been a target shooter my whole life. Yes a higher magnification is nice but when you get to high a magnification in hot weather you see to much heat mirage. Mine has the rear parallex adjustment. But everyone’s different.
First don’t buy a Hawke scope, get a SWFA. I could write a 1000 words on why you should get the fixed powered SWFA super sniper scope 16x with the mil-quad reticle but I have already done that several times. Just trust me on this one…
Second buy only JSB kings for your new Vulcan. You can experiment later but I will promise you nothing will shoot better through your vulcan than the JSB.
Lastly Tell Mr.Tunes to get better baseball caps, the ones he sends with the guns are from 1983 for gods sake. Update to a flat bill trucker’s cap already :butkick:
Ok you sold me on the SWFA but why the 16×42 instead of the 12×42? Defiantly the mil-quad is a must
Is the side focus on the swfa worth the extra $$$? Also does the light up redical on the Hawke every come in handy?
X2 on the SWFA, I sure like mine and I love the fine X hair

Thanks for the clarification Keys with the FFP “don’t know what i was thinking there”. As far as tracking you are right most air gunners do not use turret adjustments because it takes to long especially hunting, mil-dots are simple, and are pretty much the same once the shooter has plotted out a range card. When you made your recommendation of the SWFA 16x I thought that was due to the quality of the scope picture and the reticle, the turret adjust never crossed my mind, because again most hunter, plinkers, and target shooters don’t adjust turrets. I say MOST, not all. No buyers remorse thou a lot of people whom opinion i respect here recommend that scope, but to clarify are you saying the hawk series, MTC connect, and SWFA scopes are all on Par with each other in the quality of the lens and sight picture?
