Observations/Surprises with your R3 30 cal?
I have nearly two tins (10+ fills) through my Standard 30 and would like to compare notes with the 30 folks and things you may have found. This is my first 30 cal although I shoot light (50 grain) casts with a .25 Condor with some similarities and differences.
1. Took a while to get used to the recoil nudge in terms of accurately shooting. Took me 50 shots or so. (I also finally set the trigger to 12 oz. down from the 15 oz. I set initially)
2. A dirty barrel makes a significant impact on groups. I didn’t notice this at all on my Standard .25. Besides cleaning before shooting the first shot I have cleaned it at 100 shots and 200 shots. I am hoping this improves with more break-in.
3. Noticeably less wind effect. It’s normally calm in our valley but we had one windy day. It really pushed my .177 around that day but the .30 seems to ignore it. It was obvious in Chairgun with the BC difference and similar velocity.
4. Louder hammer noise than expected. Foam doesn’t help. Need gun side ear plug.
5. Lower overall gun noise than expected down range. Neighborhood friendly but the quietness fools you on the energy flying around out there unless you hear a ricochet or hard impact.
6. Absolutely love new muffler design for noise suppression, cleaning, disassembling etc..
7. You need to be aware of the vertical POI shift as the regulator is opened on the first few shots. (fine for hunting but forget shooting a group until the reg is open).
8. Very destructive on small critters. š³
9. Will soon be trying oring sizes #4 and #5 for the probe to hopefully quiet it a bit by the ear.

I suspect the regulator is adjusted a little higher on the standard with the shorter barrel. I didn’t notice it until I filled it to 240+ bar trying to squeeze a few more shots out of it. It was low by about 25 FPS for the first few shots. I only noticed it on the Chrony and target.
My right ear is real sensitive but a 70 year old buddy of mine tried it and also thought it wasn’t bad. š
I havenāt had a chance to shoot my 30 cal except in my basement.
I did fill it to 250 bar and, with the stock settings, I didnāt see a velocity shift as I shot the gun from the full fill until it got off of the regulator.
When I get the gun put back together stock, I will have to try another 250 bar fill, shoot another shot string over the chrony and check for a first couple of shots velocity difference.
The hammer is louder on my 30 cal when compared to my R3 25 long but, it isnāt so loud that I need foam rubber on the breech block or an ear plug when shooting it.
Then again, my hearing is not so good: if it was better, I might need an ear plug also.
I also like the new moderator! It really quiets the 80 fpe 30 cal down!
When I hold the 30 cal at my arms length, all I hear a ātinkā.
Looking good Secodaā¦. hows the accuracy at 75/100yards? have you tried lubing your pellets to curb the fouling?
I am going to do a shot string pretty soon. I want to finish the second tin and try the latest guess for probe orings. They should be here in a few days (I think the oring store is closed until the 2nd). I have 5 different probe orings plus Ed’s originals between the different sizes and hardness. š I am hoping to reduce the ear noise a bit.
Do you have a shot string to go with your observations?

I haven’t been able to do much shooting ith mine yet, but here area few comments based on comparison to a Wolverine 303.
1. I think recoil nudge is a given with the heavier pellets/mechanisms required for .30. As compared to the Wolverine, I think the Edgun has less, but it’s definitely more than with the smaller calibers.
3. Definitely less wind effect, those heavy pellets make a difference.
4. Hammer noise is pretty reasonable, but I’m getting more wind noise from mine than I want, but this should be solved by getting the right probe orings,
5. I’m pleasantly surprised by how quiet the Edgun .30 is. The Wolverine, sans LDC, is louder than my .22 rifle. I got a big LDCfrom Neil Clague to fix that. I haven’t compared the Edgun to the Wolverine in a single session, but overall I think the Edgun might be quieter once the probe oring is settled. Currently, my Edgun .30 has more noise in the ear than the Wolverine, to the point of being unpleasant to shoot w/o an ear plug.
7. At this point, I have not filled the Edgun .30 past 220 or 225 bar and have not chronied the results. On the Wolverine, if I fill past 225 bar, the velocity of the first few shots drops; the best 15 shots are from about 225 bar down.
