Q:

odd regulating on this Short, whats your Es looking like?

I finally got around to putting some time in with the Short and my chronograph. Right off the bat I the first three shots were up around 870 fps. I didn’t want it that hot, so I loosened the set screw and used the steel pins to lower the HS tension.This turned out to be a frustrating exercise. Lots of air and several magazines later, I decided to refill the gun to 200 bar, and see what it gave me. I only shot two magazines before I quit.
high = 831
low = 794.9
Es = 36.36
Sd = 9.05

This result in 24 shots is certainly far off what Keyser’s sample got. Anyone else tested their new TGAG Mutant Short with different or better results? So much for tiny holes at 9 yards.

Darryl, I don’t think the difference in head size can produce such big variation in velocity. In my stings, the extreme spread of 7 fps and 9 fps does not mean much, and might not significant, unless it shows the same result in another 4 or 5 strings. I bet the spread will be similar between 18 gr and 16 gr. Not many guns can keep the extreme spread within 10 fps in a complete string, but the Mutant is fully capable. It would be helpful if you can show us a complete string of your shorty, the data may tell us something. Many people here are very knowledgeable and can help to interpret the string.

Endo, thanks for the link. I’ve been in contact with Dman about his offer. Meanwhile I will go pull the barrel again and this time look more closely at the alignment of the grub screw dimple to see if it sits directly across from the TP. I didn’t get out to refill my tank today, so can only fill to a bit less than 200 bar for a while. But that should be enough to play with. Will you be posting more data? It seems odd, and says something positive for AA pellets that the Jumbo Heavy pellet has a higher Es than the AA-16 does. Higher % of consistence in the head diameter with the AA pellets would by my WAG.I have some of each, as well as the AA 18 grain which I’m saving for the Eddy.
thank you,
Darryl

Darryl,

I have done some analyses on my shorty (http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=32414&p=355426#p355426).
I have to correct that the factory extreme spread in my shorty is 14 fps, not 12 fps.

Is the location of the grub screw dimple exactly at the opposite site of the TP of the barrel? Hopefully, the grub screw dimple is not off, even slightly.

Dman knows the mutant inside out. He is a mutant guru…take the offer and send the gun to him, he will make your shorty shoot 4 fps extreme spread. :2cents:

Darryl,

My shorty from TGAG with Germany/Korean barrel, out-of-box, got ~775 fps (by eyeballing it) 50 shots with JSB 18.1, and ES 12 fps. I will do more detailed analysis later. I think the barrel alignment is pretty good, but it shoots lousy. I am waiting for barrel replacement. I don’t know if your barrel were properly prepared (cut, machining, alignment TP, etc) and installed. You may want to check out the reg pressure setting too, and see if the reg is functional…

By the way, how do you identify what kind of barrel (Cz, CZUB, or Ger/KR) is in your shorty? Just curious.
You may want to find out if your barrel passes 30-yard test at least. If it can’t do 30 yards, don’t bother to try farther distance.

Endo

Endo, I look forward to your analysis. From what I understand (been told) about the barrel is that I more than likely have a barrel made in the Czech Republic because it has a choke. In fact my sample has a chock that feels pretty tight to me, and it leaves what I think are deep rifling marks in the few unsorted Jumbo Heavy pellets I tried. I have no idea what head diameter the barrels are spec’d for, so my test wasn’t exactly scientific. 🙄 I should have thought about those things when I had the barrel out. As for my barrel alignment, I simply made sure the action’s grub screw was seated in the barrel’s alignment indentation. At this point, I’m not sure, so I may go yank it again.

About the accuracy test, I’ve got 25 yards, so I’ll feel good if the barrel gives me <0.25″ for a five shot group. I think that might bode well for my expectations of tight groups at 50 yards. I hope.

Darryl if you had asked how can a barrel improve my ES then I would have answered the question. Instead you make a statement with a :rofl: as if i was just a fool. Nicely done…

Keyser I don’t mind apologizing for the misunderstanding.These things happen. The rofl seems to have been in poor judgement, so I take responsibility for that call. You and I have shared many other exchanges on this forum, and I know you won’t find one post from me, in reply to you, that shows any thought of you being “just a fool”.I think it’s a mistake on your part, and maybe even a bit unfair to me to take one post and give it sway over all the posts that went before it. It’s not like I was calling you a derogatory name or hurling an invective at you.This one incident against those posts.
Oak is right. Respect goes a long way here. I’ll add that it’s a two-way street. There’s a such thing as benefit of the doubt too. I claim that. But let’s take it off this thread and into PMs if you feel the need.

Like I told you suckers get a Dman barrel. As per a request I’ll post 100 yard groups tomorrow.

great idea! that Listone barrel should help the regulator stabilize itself! :rofl:

PS I would like to see those 100 yard-MOA groups. :winkn:

This statement tells me how little you know about problems with ES and the relationship between a poorly drilled and aligned transfer port and your ES. I don’t really give a Fuck if your gun shoots like shit or not. Mine is fine .

don’t hate. Educate. You mentioned buying a different barrel, and nothing about transfer ports. So, you don’t give a fuck, and you call some of us “suckers”. And despite all the respect I’ve shown you, you hurl insults. Nicely done, man.
Darryl

Soze mine is shooting fine as well. Daryl take dmans kind gesture and send him your gun. There is a lot more to these guns then you think multiple variables effect gun accuracy it takes some know how to nail it down. I am perplexed why these guns are coming to folks shooting like shit. It concerns me. I simply bought mine popped in James barrel and it stacked. The extreme spread was tight groups are tight. Not sure what is going on here.

Oak, I’m not feeling any air when the gun shoots. There’s the typical condensation like with some PCPs such as the Eddy., but no apparent air escaping.

Darryl box it up and send it back. … Joe B will take great care of you.

:rofl:

No seriously… if you want me to set it up for you send it my way and I’ll get it straightened out. On the house. Just pay shipping.
