Q:

ordered a sieg x2 mini mill (changed to grizzly x3)

I was wanting to get the sx3, but decided the x2 will do for now. Once I get it, I will need to learn how to use it, but I am a quick learner. Then I can upgrade to a larger mill. according to the tracking number I should have it on Dec. 6th. Any advice on tools, acc., and learning to use it would be great. I plan to work mostly with aluminum.

Looks nice fishin Rod I am sure chips will be flying in no time! Keep us posted on how it runs and cuts, from my experience with Grizzly tools I am sure it will work out well for you 😆

Very nice mill!
like the dovetail slide for the head. Good to see you weren’t tempted to get a round column drill/mill.

post some projects 🙂

It’s here! I have to wait until I get home from work in a couple days to get it all cleaned up and set on the bench. I posted a few pictures for size comparison. If I would have known I was getting the bigger mill, I would have bought a bigger vise. I did the spindle break in as recommended and everything seemed to run smooth and quiet.

Grizzly makes some nice tools for the money, you will always get guys that argue about it but I have had there Table Saw, shaper, grinder, band saw, Planner and several router bits and other tooling from them and I have not had one complaint about any of there tools! If you start looking at tools weather it be for metal or wood allot of them are the same tool made to the companies specs and painted there color and labeled for that company, there customer service has always been great also if you do have something come up! After you get your mill set up from Grizzly if you would let me know how that particular one works out, I have looked at that one from time to time so I would be interested in how it works for you, let me know on this post or a pm thanks Eddie

It works well, but it is smaller than I thought it would be. I called HF and they said I could return it to the store for a refund. So last night I ordered an x3 from grizzly http://www.grizzly.com/products/Mill-Drill/G0463 . This should fit my needs much better. I have been watching ebay also, but I made an order from enco and mcmaster. I bought some good aluminum endmills, tool makers vise, collets, end mill holders, clamping kit, and a few other things.

The x2 cut ok but it would not drill the holes I needed for my shrouds.

Fishin Rod not sure if you have checked on Ebay I am looking for a Bridgeport Mill and they have quit a bit of tooling listed that you might want to look at if you get a chance, more than I thought they had after looking at mills, most of the tooling was under Bridgeport mills but I am sure they are listed under mills or tooling, just thought I would pass that along as I was looking in there tonight 😯 By the way how are you liking your mill working out good for you??

It arrived today. I have 65 more hours before I get off work, and then I will be able to go home and try it out. It is a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but it will work for my shrouds and other small stuff. I was happy to find out that the draw bar is a 7/16 thread, I thought it would be metric m12.

Or a brand new counter bore seize in a part, shatter and rip the part loose of the hold down clamps and sling the part all the way across the shop

It is not “if ” you are going to crash your mill but “when”

Isn’t that the truth! It is a bitch watching a new cutter collide with a new vice… 😳

Oh you should get a belt drive upgrade.

It is not “if ” you are going to crash your mill but “when”

ohh yeah, probably the best improvement you can make to your mill

Looks good, includes something I forgot, the clamp kit

Is this start kit ok for the money or should I not waste time on it? I also have a 15%off coupon.

Remember I will be learning and using aluminum.
