Q:

ordered a sieg x2 mini mill (changed to grizzly x3)

I was wanting to get the sx3, but decided the x2 will do for now. Once I get it, I will need to learn how to use it, but I am a quick learner. Then I can upgrade to a larger mill. according to the tracking number I should have it on Dec. 6th. Any advice on tools, acc., and learning to use it would be great. I plan to work mostly with aluminum.

Is this start kit ok for the money or should I not waste time on it? I also have a 15%off coupon.

Remember I will be learning and using aluminum.

welcome to the madness 😀

you want just for starters…
A 2-3″ vice (preferably a cnc vice – more flexible mounting) a 4″ will fit but it takes up a some Y travel.
a good test indicator,
a good 6″ caliper,
edge finder,
End mills, you can save a bit on the start up cost by going with end mills that all use a 3/8″ shaft, then you only need one collet, save setup time too.

you’ll be spending more on tooling than the mill itself quickly.

the X2 is on the cheap end of Chinese mills, with all that implies.
you Will need to take it apart and clean it up, you WIll need to “tune” it

That said they’re great little mills that force you to learn everything,
you will learn how a mill works and how to set them up, no plug and play here.

DROs are a great addition, does make use a good bit easier, but definitely not a need right now kinda thing.

Yep.

Spend $600 and get a DRO for it.
