Parallax Discrepancies
What is used to figure out the minimum a scope will focus to(parallax wise)? Is it just the lowest setting on the scope itself? Is the zoom level involved in the calculation?
For example: I bought a tasco 3-9-32AO scope from optics planet a while ago. The tasco websites said that it was from 10 yds to infinity. Optics planet, and some others, said it was 10 ft to infinity? Then when I look at the scope, the lowest number on the objective bell is 7.5? But I can rotate it below that so maybe it can focus below it? Is there something I’m not seeing? Thanks

14x is clear as a bell – once you dial in the AO. At 30 yards I can clearly see and count the grain in a fence picket. BUT it has very little slack for eye position – move and its black. At 10x its still clear and more forgiving eye position.
Not all 9x are the same. I’ve seen a Nikon with clear magnification at 200 yards where a Bushnell 12x didn’t…. So this Burris may behave differently than your Tasco.
Also search for what the field target crowd are using – there may be some good suggestions there.
I will check clarity when the sun comes up…. BUT the scope has a very narrow angle of view at 14x and will “wink” at you if your eye moves out of alignment.
For weight, accuracy, reliability, and clarity I am happy with this scope.
I do most of my shooting at paper target. Right now I have a $45 tasco 3-9×32. I keep wanting to zoom in closer when I’m already on 9x. Thanks for checking
For an airgun you won’t need more than 8x magnification… if you do then you still have 9x-14x.

Another question. How clear is the 14x magnification? Since it is only a 32mm.
yes 3″ at 10 yards. Since your scope is 3″ over bore that should be more than enough adjustment for you. Best to zero for the flattest trajectory and mil-dot for anything closer.

It’s not cheap but then again your gun is worthless without a good scope.
I’m really interested in that scope. I’m just a bit worried about the max adjustment on it though. It said it was 30 in at 100 yards. Dopes that mean it is 3 inches at 10 yards?
Timberline Riflescope 4.5X-14X-32mm… AO 7 yards to infinity. I use it on my Talon SS and it hasn’t lost zero since I bought the gun and sighted it in. The AO yardage on the AO is perfectly calibrated also.

Well, parallax is only a problem if you can’t keep a constant cheek weld. So, if you can find a scope that focus down below 10 yards and you can see the crosshairs and target fine, it could work. You just have to make sure you put your cheek in EXACTLY the same spot every time you shoot, and if you can do that you won’t have any parallax problems.
That was what I was looking at until I saw the complaints. I think someone mentioned an issue with fish eyes. If that is what I think it is(fish eye lens) then I can how it will get annoying. Something about the eye relief also. I was hoping to find a 10 yds scope and hope that it goes below that.
For that indoor shooting, why not buy a bug-buster scope? I think it focuses down to 7 yards or something like that. That would help for the indoor stuff.
With a laser you don’t need the scope in focus, you can look at the fuzzy dot on the fuzzy furry target and know where you will hit. It’s a little better because you can use the cross hairs to know your gun is plumb for the shot.
Thanks for clearing it up. The reason I ask is that I don’t have that much opportunities to shoot outside so I’m stuck inside. My “range” is about 9-13 yards.
To be honest, I rarely set the scope to below 25 yards. Shots closer than that are very few where I hunt.
Anything closer I target with the laser anyway and I never look thru the scope when using the laser.
Learn that lasers aim points and you will become very quick and deadly, no fussing with objectives or wheels.
Many scopes can FOCUS closer than their reported parallax, but the actual parallax won’t be adjusted there. The parallax is only between the numbers on the scope, or the one range it is set for. Low magnification can bring it into focus though.
For example, one of my leupolds is set at 150 yards. By bringing the magnification all the way out, I can see well at 25 yards, but the crosshairs will still move if I don’t keep a constant cheekweld.
The numbers may not be dead on (in other words, don’t trust them for range estimation) but they are in the ballpark. But don’t assume because it’s in focus that it is also parallax free.
But, to check a scope. The higher magnification shows it worse. So do like riffraff said, but do it with the power all the way up. That will show the closest range. But like I said, it probably won’t be far off from where it says it will be.
