pellet sorting tool
hey guys i might be wasting my time but im gonna try something that might help sorting my 22 cal pellets on there head size, i have a good friend that has some pretty accurate CNC machines that hes gonna drill some holes in some 1/4 inch plate aluminum and then end mill sizes 4.49 thru 5.55 mm and they should be spot on,im hoping i will be able to use as a go or no go gauge for pellet sorting,,has anyone done this?

Trouble is we need a few sizes in each caliber to match the barrel for best accuracy now. 🙂

Where did you get the tool? looks very useful. Instead of sorting pellets, it makes pellets same size, right?

I’m making a different tool for sorting. I’m making a 1/2″ block with precision tapered holes to size the skirts only, in hopes of rolling the pellets and having the skirts not factor into the results. Should be done today. Weekend project

The intended measuring device would better than nothing but not ideal.. I have experimented with similar tools before with limited results..
Unfortunately getting holes of that kind of accuracy is harder than it sounds and they can change depending on the material its made from and the temperature of the day.
Anything hand held like that adds the human factor too.. if you can feel the slop of a 5.50 pellet in a 5.51 hole your a better man than me.. same goes for the lets say 5.53 pushed into a 5.52 hole.. there us next to no resistance felt as you unknowingly resize the sharp edges of the pellet.. All tests I did on resizing pellets from 5.52 to 5.50 showed no improvement on stability so the goal is to measure the head size not resize it..
To be honest you are better to buy a good pair of Mitutoyo Vernier Callipers and as long as you use the correct method you can get pretty close on measurements.
If you can get your hands on the good quality JSBs the whole batch of pellets will be very close to the same head size, If you get bad tins you will find mixed head sizes in the same tin. I only measure a few pellets from a batch of pellets now to find the right head size then just shoot them right from the tin..
When I get a moment Ill put together a video explaining how to correctly measure your head size and show some hard evidence that pellet head size is causing your spiralling problems.

I have pellet spiral problem. I shot JSB 18.1 at same speed and psi, but some pellets traveled nicely, some were not. Wingman said it’s nothing with velocity, it’s pellet size problem. Now I believe so. So sorting tool becomes more important now.
