I did the M rod mod to my .25 Marauder. The problem with the Ai Force tank would be the opening is small. The M rod you have a tube that is the same diameter on the end as the entire tube. You push the slittube in rolled up a little, the tube tries to unroll and pushes against the outside (inside) of the tube. It works great I could not beleive it. Steve In la thanks!
Anyhow do not think that would work because whatever piece of rubber you could fit in the end of the AirForce tank would not expand to the outside (inside) of the AirForce tank.

I read on the yellow about a guy who attached a long peice of tubeing inside the tank to the valve

He claimed it broke the wave of air thus breaking up the ping .

Dont know, just passing on the info

I was woundering about this also.

Could you coat the inside of the tank with a liquid rubber? Something like this?

Would not try any chemical inside a pressure zone!! 😯

Some things ignite under extreme pressure!
Some things can ignite under low presure!!

The ping was explained to me like this

If the cause of the ping is from the air rushing back and forth in the tank is it plausable that having an Etac regulator on your tank would eliminate the ping?

Just curious. My Etac will be here today. 😀

I tried a tiny o-ring streched over the back end of the valve pin and positioned behind the top hat. Note: still experimenting with a light hammer and low PSI and expected lower FPS so I increased my fill to 2000. Well…..I might be slower than I once was BUT I CUD OF BEAT THAT PELLET TO THE TARGET ❗ WOW, 177.13 FPS ❗ I watched it come out of the muzzle. Well that got the valve seated so the next shots were 814.38 and 812.41 shooting .177 x 16.3 grain EJs from a 12″ barrel.
Oh, the PING was still noticeable.

I switched to my higher set top hat/valve and 10.6 Kodiaks and got into the low 900s FPS. If I didn’t have the printout, I wouldn’t have dared give those figures.

Hecklerjones is right. A hammer slap mod is probably the best solution.

Very little of the ping is caused by the air. About 95% of the sound is resonance from hammer slap and spring. Decoupling the hammer at both ends will yield a significant reduction. The remaining subdued ping is easily removed with a soft rubber between the tank and frame.

The real trick is getting the hammer weight right so you don’t lose velocity or the adjustable range of it. I can go from about 300 to 800 fps (0-12 PW) on a 2500 psi fill with a very subdued hammer slap and no ping at all.

My SS insert is a very state of the art cnc design and I ported the bushing and frame as well so it made the ping very noticeable. My buddy across the street could hear me shooting in the back yard by the metallic ping. Now I could shoot in his general direction and he wouldn’t know.

Like you say Wok, the bell is rung to the resonant frequency of the tank’s length. I think a single baffle would disrupt it but would not hold up inside our large tank that is changing size with every shot.

I think the Marauder depinger isn’t so much stopping the tank (tube) walls from vibrating but is acting as a baffle disrupting the frequency that the air was rung at.

Another way to change the frequency is to dampen the hammer strike. Thus, Edward’s o-ring behind the top hat or Tony’s Hammer Slap Mod could both effect the noise to varying degrees whether it’s a hammer slap or a tank ping.

With the new Hi Flo Condor valve stem being exchangeable out the front of the bottle, the o-ring idea might be the quickest mod to try.
The humidity has finally dropped off for today and tomorrow so maybe I can get back to the range and try to KILL the PING ❗

Well as for outside the tank It should be fine I have my steering wheel coated in it and has held up to racing for 2 years as of now and has not bothered my skin at all.

Might give it a try on the outside, From what I’m gathering the “ping” is an echo of the air being released. ?

Yeah I think I remember that post.

tj,
bb may be right. If the Flexane did begin to deteriorate it could cause a valve problem. But, it might make a nice exterior coat. If not harmful to skin.
bb, I think it was fast Fredie that had his Condor so quiet that he could pick off multiple predator birds from his song bird feeders. I don’t know how well a tree rat or bird would hear the PING but it ‘s such an unnatural sound (metallic ping) that if possible I want to eliminate it.

I don’t think coating the tank is advisable.

I was woundering about this also.

Yeah I have tested moderated and have heard the ping. I just think it’s not a noise that travels very far. Same as hammer slap. I would agree quite the trade off. I was hunting one time and was about 10 feet from a squirrel and it didn’t hear me cock the condor which I think it pretty loud but probably cause I’m trying to be super quiet. The sound right after the shot I guess I’m not to worried about 😆

Ear plugs? I still think tank ping is a myth 😆

That it is…Just a Myth until you successfully muzzle your barrel report.

Put a 12″ barrel in your AF PCP with a Talon SS End Cap and shoot it a bit.

Then vent the front barrel bushing, put it back together and shoot it some more. If you’re not blasting pellets out cracking the sound barrier, you’re likely to hear the crisp metallic PING resonate in your tank.

Try it. You won’t like it ❗ But they say it isn’t heard 10 yards away and your muzzle blast isn’t as noticeable down range. It appears to be a reasonable trade off 😈
